Decorating Your Teenagers Room
Now it’s time to rearrange your teen’s room and redecorate it. Originally they might have a different idea than you do but together you can compromise and make it work out to suit both of your needs.
Together you need to sit down and go over your ideas and learn to compromise. They may want something totally different from what you want but if you give them more options then you can reach a compromise and get started quicker. It might take a few hours of arguing to reach a compromise but it is worth it.
Teenagers love color! Don’t be afraid to let them express themselves this way. Walls are easily re-painted and comforters are easily replaced or changed. Color can easily be incorporated through pictures, picture frames, and art work. You can also add color through window treatments as well as throw pillows. If you don’t want to commit to a comforter that is expensive and you know your child’s color choice will change soon, use throw pillows in their favorite color to accent a solid colored, neutral comforter. This is one area that a teenager can really express themselves, and it is relatively inexpensive.
A floor covering is the one way a teenager can express themselves. You can find an area rug that displays your teens interest or favorite color. There is an area rug for almost any hobby, color, or preference. So for a modern look they may choose a geometric design in the rug. Another great thing about an area rug is the fact that they can be cleaned easily. Teens like to eat in their rooms and you want to be able to spot clean. Look online together for an area rug that you both can agree on.
When you and your teenager start to design their bedroom, remember to keep an open mind, let them use color, and incorporate area rugs to complete the look. Sure, the look they want will probably change in a couple of months so be as cost effective as possible and let them have fun! Now is the time to let them really start expressing themselves, with a little guidance of course! Remember to have fun, make it functional, and always keep it as stress free as possible. Now, let’s get to decorating!
