Maintain Standards Currency With Credentialing Software

Physician credentialing can sometimes be a complicated process. It involves not only tracking and verifying licenses and certificates, but studying a doctor’s performance as well. In addition, according to the OPPE standards, this information must be reviewed on a regular basis.

Credentialing software is by far the superior way to meet all those goals. By having all the information in just one place, credentialing is simpler because it aids the hospital in knowing when to collect information, and what to collect.

All information about a doctor is entered into the software, and copies of his licenses and certificates are scanned in. As a result, a hospital can see at a glance what duties a doctor is capable of performing. Up to three months before his licenses expire, the system lets the hospital know.

But credentialing software keeps track of more than just credentials. It makes it simple to write a report about a doctor. In addition, the system lets the hospital know when this information needs to be reviewed.

When something happens that knocks the doctor out of compliance with expectations, he receives a flag on his case. This occurs so that fellow physicians or hospital employees can know his case standing on the system. Additionally, the hospital may see if they can help in any way.

Credentialing software also contains any forms that may be needed during the credentialing process, and it has the capability to automatically enter information on them about any physician in the system. If a needed form does not happen to be in the system, it can help hospital personnel to create it and save it in the program.

If the need arises to schedule a meeting, it can be done with the system. Those on the credentialing committee can log in, view information, and cast votes for candidates. The process is made much simpler this way, and it helps to conserve paper.

This program tracks CME credits as well. With credentialing software, a hospital can keep track of any that are received, and those that are needed, by any person or group of people in the hospital. So when a hospital uses this system, they can easily stay up-to-date not only on credentialing and privileging, but on all areas of the OPPE standards.
