Secure Borders For A Prosperous Nation

U.S illegal immigrationImmigration reform is one of the hot button topics of our time. It seems that everyone has an opinion regarding what to do about illegal immigration. Do we simply decriminalize it and instantly call all immigration legal? Do we close our borders and enforce the laws that are already on the books?

Let’s take a look at the problem of U.S illegal immigration and get a feel for the scope of this situation. The approximate “saturation point” for immigrration into the U.S. annually is roughly 300,000 people. With many more people than that entering into our country every year (legal and illegal combined), our social structures are put under strain. Think about this: When an illegal immigrant has an auto accident, he will generally flee the scene out of fear of deportation when the officer asks him for identification and insurance information. Hit and run accidents cause insurance rates to go up nationally because there is no one to bill. The insurance agent ends up covering all of the costs, and to make up for his losses he is forced to raise his rates. One should also consider health care. Unpaid bills cause hospitals to have to charge exorbitant rates to stay in operation.

Many illegals have children who get sick just like legal citizens do. They take them to the emergency rooms wanting desperately to help their children. The child receives care, but the hospital too often never receives payment for services rendered. Illegal immigrants, of course, are rarely covered by insurance. Another serious item to consider is America’s job pool. Nearly all U.S illegal immigration is made up of people from poorer countries seeking to make a better life for themselves and their families. Rather than going through the proper channels of legal immigration, the illegals will come in as tourists, or just simploy slip past the border. They then look for work.

America has a challenge in this regard, because the illegal worker will most always work hard for a relatively low wage; much lower than the typical American citizen would do the work for. This causes overall wages in the U.S. labor workforce to drop. No one can blame a person for wanting to build a better life, but in order for our country to remain prosperous and desirable, our laws must be enforced and respected.

Together we can push for a more secure border and ensure that the United States of America will remain a wonderful and beautiful land for all of her citizens, both natural and naturalized. Let’s bring a solution to the problem of U.S illegal immigration.
