Considering A Career as a Massage Therapist

June 17th, 2009
by A Nutt

If you are considering a career as a massage therapist, there are a number of considerations you’ll want to make before you begin your training.

The first is the length of time you must devote to training, then the additional training that is necessary to become an expert massage therapist.

Each state licenses massage therapists differently, so it is difficult to make generalizations. Only 37 of the 50 states in the U.S. have licensing regulations for massage therapists. The required amount of training varies from 330 contact hours to 1,000 contact hours providing hands-on therapy.

There are also varying requirements for classroom hours a therapist must complete in the classroom. These programs range from just a few weeks to two years, depending on the regulations in the state and the structure of the program.

Although those in an unregulated state can start practicing massage therapy with little or no training, it is clear that thy would not be able to gain or keep clients without the proper training.

After you get the appropriate training, you’ll want to either join a facility or start your own practice. Whichever you choose, you will need to follow some basic guidelines for working with clients.

Make sure each client receives quality therapy at each session. They’ll be sure to return and send others your way. You want to become genuinely involved in the community in which you practice, and contribute in truly valuable ways.

Have a clear vision of what your goals are so that every move you make is leading you closer to your goals. Be positive and affirming with yourself and with clients, and work hard to preserve your reputation so that you will benefit from word-of-mouth clients.

When you are done training and looking for a job as a massage therapist, you’ll have a few options. One is the opening of your own practice. This has implications far beyond simply the massage therapy expertise, requiring good business skills, marketing skills, and negotiating skills as well as the massage skills and customer skills.

There are many salons, resorts and spas that also hire massage therapists. There are a variety of websites and organizations that are dedicated to matching spa service providers with the employers who need their services, so find out about those bulletin boards and websites.

Remember that you can work part time as a massage therapist, but you will have to consider that you need to be available when clients want your services. This may well mean that you need to work evenings and weekends. However, on the positive side, the work is pleasant, and the pay is good. The hours tend to be flexible for a person willing to work when the clients need the services.

Massage therapists may work in spas and salons, but there are other areas of massage therapy as well, such as prenatal massage, infant massage, sports massage, and medical massage. There are also different massage types offered at spas, such as stone therapy and Reiki.

How Hylaform or Restylane Injections Help Fight Wrinkles

June 17th, 2009
by A Nutt

Restylane and Hylaform are two new injections for smoothing wrinkles and laugh lines that are highly effective, give beautiful results, and are less invasive than many other injection treatments for wrinkles.

You’ve probably seen advertisements for Reestylane and Hylaform and how they will take years off of your face. You may wonder how they work and if they work.

The injections have fewer problems than other types of injections for smoothing wrinkles, and those who use them prefer their ease of use.

Other injections for sculpting and removing wrinkles are made from animal based products. By contrast, Restylane and Hylaform are created from non-animal, biodegradable substances.

The major ingredient in the two products is hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in our bodies, that provides fullness and volume to the skin. This natural base makes Restylane a favorite in the wrinkle removal field.

This is in direct contrast to Botox, which is a drug, not a natural product. Botox blocks the nerves from transmitting and relaxes the muscles under the nerves. Restylane, on the other hand, fills in folds and wrinkles with a natural filler.

The Restylane and Hylaform products have very few side effects and nearly no allergic reactions. With animal based injection, there is a high percentage of patients who have an allergic reaction to the products.

This reaction causes swelling, itching and redness, and embarrassment for the patient. However, these side effects are nearly all connected to the animal proteins in those products, and Restylane has none of those acids, so there is little to no incidence of allergic reactions.

In fact, with other products, patience have to go through and experimental prick and small injection to test for allergic reactions. With Restylane and Hylaform, that testing step is completely eliminated.

That means faster treatment for you, and faster results. Not only can you have the procedure early, but you’ll see the effects for a long time as well.

The effects of Restylane last up to six months, which means less frequent injections and more natural looking results. Eventually the acid is absorbed into the skin naturally so there is never a unnatural or unattractive look.

The treatments generally last only 20 or 30 minutes, and the process usually takes only one treatment to produce effective results.

There is generally no pain involved in the Restylane procedure. The ultra thin needles and technology involved mean minimal discomfort for the patient. This gentle treatment allows patients to return to work, school, and regular daily activities immediately, with little or no visible sign of swelling or redness, just beautiful skin and no wrinkles.

Despite the mildness of the treatment, you should avoid St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin and ibuprofen. These items may increase the incidents of bleeding at the site of the injection.

There is a small chance of facial cold sores, if a patient has had a problem with these in the past there is a small chance that the needle puncture could cause a recurrence.

June 12th, 2009
by A Nutt

Everyone has a tread mill, bike or elliptical that is sitting in the basement or bedroom collecting dust and/or occasionally serving as a large, extremely expensive clothes hanger. There are many reasons why used exercise equipment is abandoned in this way.

Others may get good use out of their fitness equipment but will stop when wear and tear sets in. Most people will even abandon their athletic gear when their digital counters cease to work.

Whatever the reason for this, the truth is old fitness equipment does not have to sit around the house just taking up space, there are things you can do!

Then try having it refurbished. Fixing the thing may end up being a lot less costly than trying to replace it outright. Beside’s fixing something small, like a digital counter that is no longer working, could be as simple as ordering a simple battery form the manufacturer.

Other tips for old fitness equipment There is no written rule that says that used athletic equipment can’t simply be given away to charity. When Do You Use Robotic Duct Cleaning

June 12th, 2009
by A Nutt

Air ducts are everywhere, from office buildings to homes. They provide passage for heating and cooling and for the most part, we don’t think much about them until something goes wrong. However, regular cleaning is a necessity and that is now easier with Robotic Duct Cleaning.

Cleaning Your Air Ducts Over time, the ducts in a home or office will build up residue, dust, mites and bacteria. These nasties get sent up into our air, causing a number of health issues, ranging from mild allergies to more severe colds and congestion. The good news is that these can easily be prevented by simply cleaning the ducts on a regular basis.

The usual procedure for duct cleaning is to take a vacuum and a whip that spins, knocking debris loose with flying rubber arms while the vacuum picks up the dust and bits of dirt. This is effective for getting rid of large chunks of debris and also for removing blockages. However, there are still areas that this type of cleaning will miss, particularly corners and cracks or joins in the pipes.

Robotic Duct Cleaning During the 1980’s, when air quality first became a concern, cleaning companies used video cameras to show people just what was going on inside their air ducts and to prove that they were really dirty and needed to be cleaned. The video cameras were mounted on robotic devices that allowed them to be moved through the air ducts.

These days, that same technology allows for deep cleaning of the ducts. Where the regular method uses air-powered whips that tend to leave areas untouched, the robotic cleaners are far more effective in getting the little reached areas. They are built with a number of rotating brushes that can be moved to reach and clean any size of aid duct. The advantage of this is that these brushes actually get into cracks and remove the dirt and bacteria embedded there, something that the regular cleaning equipment usually can’t do.

While brushing out the dirt, these robotic duct cleaning machines are also vacuuming it up, so there’s very little excess dust. Another advantage of the robotic devices is that they also have video cameras so the operator can see exactly what areas need to be cleaned and how well the device is working.

Robotic duct cleaning is usually much more efficient and faster than the older method of cleaning and while not all companies offer this yet, it is often faster and cheaper to use a robot and the entire duct system is often completed in just one day.

Any time an air system is in need of cleaning and the preferred method is to get it done quickly, while ensuring that all the nasty stuff is out, then robotics are the way to go. They often end up costing the building owner less, as well, since there is no need for repeated visits. Overall, a robot can do a far better job of duct cleaning than a human trying to maneuver into the same spaces.

Electronic Thermostats Help to Save Energy

June 12th, 2009
by A Nutt

These days, it seems like everyone is looking for ways to go green. Important actions such as recycling and reusing, conserving water and saving energy are the order of the day. There are many different ways we can contribute to helping the environment, and some of these methods may even help our pocketbooks as saving energy, for example, also helps you save money off your electric or gas bills.

What Does a Thermostat Do? A thermostat’s job is basically to control the output from your home’s heating or cooling system based on room temperature (hvac). This is done by what is basically a heat-activated switch. A heat sensor causes the opening or closing of the switch, which in turn starts, continues, or stops an electrical circuit that is connected to the house’s heating or cooling system. Many people prefer an electromechanical model to an electronic model simply because they are less expensive. Others prefer electromechanical models because they are not technically inclined and prefer simplicity. Here we will explain why electronic thermostats help save energy and how they end up paying for themselves in the long run.

How Will an Electronic Model Help Save Energy? An electronic, or digital thermostat has the primary benefit of being programmable. Because of this, the unit allows you to remain in greater control of the energy output of your home’s heating or cooling system. Having this control allows you to set the times that your heating or cooling is turned on and off based on a pre-determined schedule. If done correctly, you will reduce the energy used by these systems by not operating them during the night when everyone is sleeping or during the day when nobody is home. Most electronic thermostat models offer flexibility in terms of making changes to your heating and cooling schedule (seasonally or however you choose) or allowing you to manually override the heating and cooling schedule at any given time that you deem necessary.

How Much Money Can I Save? If you set up your thermostat’s schedule to reduce heating output by ten to fifteen percent for a period of at least eight hours a day, it is possible to save between five and fifteen percent a year on your energy bill. The same is true with air conditioning. If you automatically maintain your home warmer in the summer during the hours that you are not there, you can achieve an even greater level of savings. Can’t I Save Energy by Adjusting My Thermostat Manually?

While it is true that you can adjust your thermostat manually and be very cautious about turning it down every time you leave the house, an electronic thermostat has certain benefits that a manual unit just doesn’t offer. For example, if you follow this strategy with a manual thermostat, you will have to endure some discomfort upon returning home or waking up in the morning while the system works to heat or cool your home to a comfortable temperature. An electronic thermostat will have the home at an ideal temperature just when you need it to be.

A Professional Website will Increase your Online Sales

June 10th, 2009
by A Nutt

Every professional business knows that a professional website increases sales. A website is a symbol of your business and is a direct representation of your business standards. A poorly created or disorganized site will only cause visitors to shop somewhere else on the internet. Once published, your website becomes your business image. It reflects your values, product, quality of service, and your dedication to your clients. It is your most important means of marketing your company. Designing a professional website that will market your products or services can take time and effort, but the result will be increased sales and customer satisfaction.

The following outlines general considerations for creating a professional website:

Register a Domain Name: Choosing a professional domain name is critical to making sure visitors can locate your site. When choosing a domain name, consider your business strategy and your product or service. Make sure your name is easy to spell and remember. ‘.com’ is the most common ending for a business. .biz is also an ending that can be used.

Register for Web Hosting: Web hosting allows you to store your website on a server that is accessible 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. Make sure you acquire a web hosting package that meets all your needs.

Design the Website. You can either hire a professional to design the site, buy a template, or do-it-yourself. Hiring a professional to design your site will mean that your website will be of high quality. Purchasing a professional website template may lead to a product that does not complement your business image. Doing it yourself can take a lot of time and be very frustrating.

Display Testimonials. By displaying customer testimonials, you are showing potential customers that you can be trusted and your product and service is of high quality.

Privacy and Security: One of your major tasks of proving your credibility is your ability to show your clients that their financial information and personal information are safe. Customers will not give you their credit card details if they have doubts about the security of your website. You should consider a well known payment system with a good record of protection. Make sure visitors can easily find your privacy and proof of security pages.

Website Load Time: The recommended size of a web page should be about 40-60 K. This size is suggested so that visitors do not have to wait for the website to load. In many cases, if they have to wait more than 20 seconds, they will move on to another site. To maintain a low load time, use a minimal number of graphics.

Keep Your Website Fresh: In order to create and maintain repeat customers, give your visitors a reason to visit and continue to visit in the future. Provide fresh content on a frequent basis. New content can come from such sources as news clips, articles, tipsetc. Your content should be relevant to your site and updated regularly.

Sloppy websites do not translate into sales. When looking at your own website, ask yourself: Would I purchase a product or service from the company? Your website is the most important sales tool you have. Your visitor’s first impression will almost instantly determine whether or not you are going to make a sale.

Professionalism is a key component of business success. When properly designed, professionalism will be seen in your website. Because the virtual world has become such a highly competitive environment, you need to make sure your professionalism and credibility are clear to visitors. Your website is a key component of online business success.

Understanding the Benefits of Facials

June 10th, 2009
by A Nutt

Facials are treatments of the epidermis designed to enhance the look and texture of facial skin by cleansing, hydrating, removing dead skin cells, unblocking clogged pores, and/or tightening the facial skin. Facials can be as simple as using an old-fashioned recipe at home or as elaborate as a full day spent being pampered by a professional aesthetician at a fancy spa. The benefits of facials can go more than skin deep, though, providing a sense of relaxation and peace while enhancing self confidence and promoting a general feeling of well being. Here I will explain some of the different types of facials and the processes involved in them, and I will give you a few tips on making the most of your facial experience.

A facial can be a one step process or can involve multiple different applications. Each type of facial application has a different purpose and result. The first step in a facial, after routine cleansing, is the application of a facial rinse, or astringent, also called toner, which is used to clean excess oil and dirt from the tiny pores of the skin. In addition, to cleansing, the astringent tightens the facial skin. Most astringents contain some type of harmless acidic compound which draws the pores closed, resulting in a firmer skin texture. Popular recipes used in home facial washes include lemon or orange juice mixed with a small amount of mineral water and applied with a cotton ball to the face. Many name brand facial toners are available at most drug and retail stores and work on the same principle using a variety of natural or synthetic astringents.

A facial scrub is another form of the facial, usually used after the toner. The scrub’s main purpose is to remove dead skin cells, allowing the fresher, softer skin underneath to show through which gives the face radiance and a more youthful look and feel. Sugar scrubs are popular at home and are can be made simply by mixing some sugar (brown or white) into a small amount of olive oil, applying to the face in a gentle circular motion and rinsing with plain water.

A popular image when thinking of a facial includes a person lying down with a thick coating on the face and cucumber slices on the eyes. The coating on the face is called a mask, for obvious reasons, and there are many different types of masks for a wide variety of desired results. There are masks for deep pore cleansing, for firmer skin, for intensive hydration or for removing excess oil, among others. Some masks harden and peel off, mostly for the purpose of removing dirt and oil from deep within the pores, while others remain soft and are rinsed off, such as deeply moisturizing or exfoliating masks. And the cucumber slices on the eyes actually do serve a purpose by slightly tightening the skin around the eyes through the astringent properties of the cucumber!

The last step in a full facial is to moisturize. Moisturizers are chosen depending on skin type and add the finishing touch by further hydrating the skin for maximum softness and radiance. A moisturizer is generally applied sparingly and left to soak into the skin. A facial moisturizer should really be used every day, but no facial experience is truly complete without this last step.

Whether you pay for the full experience at a luxury spa or pamper yourself at home, you’ll feel the benefits of a facial long beyond the time it takes to have one. Soothing music, flickering candles and a subtle scent in the air will enhance your experience even further. Enjoy the lasting effects of rejuvenation and renewed self confidence that a facial can bring.

What Happens in Juvenile Criminal Cases?

June 10th, 2009
by A Nutt

Juvenile law deals with crimes committed by minors. The age limit to be considered a juvenile offender may differ from state to state, but is typically around age 17. Generally, the offender must have been under the age of 18 when the crime was committed to be considered a juvenile. If your child or someone you know is being accused of a crime, the following information can help you understand the basics of the juvenile law process.

Prosecution When a juvenile crime is reported, parents are contacted, and a hearing is scheduled. After the case is deemed worthy of prosecution, a court date is scheduled. Depending on the nature of the crime and many other factors, the child can be detained or released into the custody of their parents or guardians until the court date.

Juveniles have the same constitutional rights as adults. These rights include the right to remain silent, the right to have an attorney present, the right to cross-examine any witnesses speaking against them and so on. In juvenile cases, as in adult cases, the police are obligated to inform suspects of these rights. In many states, social workers or counselors are also assigned to criminal cases involving minors as defendants.

Crimes committed by children, ranging from traffic violations and petty theft to more serious crimes such as rape or murder are prosecuted by city, state or federal agencies. Court proceedings tend to be a bit more informal than the typical adult prosecution. In most states, court records in juvenile cases are sealed so that no one from the public can access them. If after the case is tried in court the juvenile is determined to be guilty, he or she is adjudicated.

Adjudication vs. Conviction Traditionally, in juvenile criminal cases the focus has been on reform rather than punishment. Because of this, prison sentences have typically been shorter than they are for adults committing comparable crimes. Unlike a conviction, a juvenile court adjudication stays off the childs record as far as job applications go. Most states require that adjudicated juveniles be released from custody upon turning 18. The landscape of juvenile law is starting to change somewhat in many states. More juveniles are being treated in adult courts, especially in very serious cases. Additionally, the emphasis is starting to shift a bit from reform to punishment. Make sure you speak with a qualified attorney in your area who can explain the way juvenile court works in your particular municipality.

Some types of adjudication made in juvenile cases include: Fines or restitution Community service Probation Juvenile detention (jail)

If there is even the slightest suspicion in the minds of the parents that their child may have committed the crime in question, it is crucial to hire a good defense attorney. If the juvenile is found to be guilty by a court of law, a good lawyer that is well versed in these types of cases can be instrumental in negotiating a less severe punishment.

Materials Used to Build a Mascot

June 10th, 2009
by A Nutt

Have you ever wondered what is used to create those team mascots that jump around acting crazy and exciting the fans with their antics? Well, depending on the inspiring creature they are modeled after, there can be many different materials used on the exterior of the mascot, but the initial form is usually made of polyethylene, a type of plastic known for its durability and flexibility. In the past, mascots were usually made of fiberglass which is a heavier and less flexible material, making it impractical upon the invention of polyethylene. Today polyethylene is the most widely used plastic on the planet, thanks to its wide range of uses including building a sturdy and long lasting mascot!

In addition to sports team mascots, there are corporate mascots, school mascots, international mascots, organizational mascots and even municipal mascots for cities and towns! Since there are so many different types of mascots, they can be made of many different materials. Sometimes papier mache or cardboard are used in creating mascots on a limited budget. These mascots may have to be replaced intermittently due to their more fragile construction. The head on these mascots are especially prone to damage and consequently may have their appearance subtly altered each time they are replaced. Other mascots use only a fabric shell, such as wool, double knit, plush or spandex in their construction and can either be covered with added materials or serve the purpose alone. Once in a while, the mascot consists merely of the human form wearing a costume of some type, like a pirate or a gladiator.

Some large mascot costumes incorporate a harness system that straps the shell onto the performer and holds it away from the body. Heads on these types of mascot costumes may consist of a hockey-type mask with a chin strap to keep them in place and are covered with a suitable material that matches the rest of the costume.

Since mascots come in many shapes and forms, the shell is covered with a wide array of suitable and appropriate materials including faux fur, paint, feathers or fabric. Of course, most mascots have eyes which come in many shapes and sizes and depend upon the species of mascot. The feet of a mascot are very important, as it spends a lot of time running and jumping around and even performing various acrobatic tricks. Often, the feet of a polyethylene mascot will be made of the same material since it can really take a beating. Sometimes, the feet of a mascot, as well as a beak or snout or similar protrusion, will be made of Styrofoam or an equally suitable plastic. Whatever the material, the feet must have some type of skid resistance built in to accommodate the constant movement.

Above all, since the mascot is such an active part of any team, the costume construction should be durable, flexible and last through an inordinate amount of wear and tear. This will assure the effectiveness of a mascot through many a season.

Online Shopping: An Eco-Friendly Choice

June 10th, 2009
by A Nutt

The threat of global warming and the depletion of our natural resources have resulted in a world where conservation has become a necessary and important responsibility for everyone. Today, more consumers are looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. One method of implementing environmentally friendly practices is to take advantage of the eco-friendly benefits of online shopping.

Other than its convenience, shopping online can help reduce the negative impact that we have on the environment. The environmental benefits of online shopping include:

1. If you live a fair distance from a shopping mall or retail district, then you know how much fuel you burn when travelling back and forth. As well, your car will produce a lot of emissions which has a serious impact on global warming. Shopping online reduces the amount of driving you will do and as a result, there will be a lower amount of emissions being emitted into the air.

2. Many online stores now use eco-friendly packaging when they ship their products. Eco-friendly packaging reduces the amount of waste going into landfills. As well, people will often reuse or recycle the packaging material. When searching for details about how your item will be packaged, check to see if the retailer uses biodegradable packaging. There are now sites that arrange for items to be shipped along with others that are going to the same area. It reduces shipping costs and reduces the amount of time delivery trucks are on the road. As well, many delivery trucks now use bio-diesel fuel in their trucks.

3. Traditional brick and mortar stores tend to use a lot of energy during their daily operations. When you buy online and have an item shipped directly from a factory or manufacturer, you know you will be receiving an item that was stored in a warehouse that uses less energy than a retail store.

4. There many more online stores that sells eco-friendly and all-natural products. Such environmentally friendly items include cleaners, natural pet food, eco-friendly furniture products, all natural personal products, and much more. You may also live in an area where green products are limited. Shopping online will give you access to just about every environmentally product that is made. You will also have the opportunity to support fair trade organisations so you are helping people as well as the environment.

5. When shopping online, you have the ability to make an informed choice about the types of products you purchase. You can look up articles, reviews, and discussion boards about a particular product to make sure you are getting the item that you truly want.

6. When shopping online, you will reduce the amount of natural resources that you use. For instance, you will use a lot less paper because transactions are all done online, including the receipt.

7. In many large department stores, there are massive amounts of items that never get sold. Buying online reduces this waste because many online items are ordered directly from suppliers. As well, some items are made on demand.

According to the Non-Profit Center for Energy and Climate Solutions, “Shipping 10 pounds of packages by overnight air, the most energy-intensive delivery mode, uses 40 percent less fuel than driving roundtrip to the mall. Ground shipping by truck uses just one-tenth of the energy of driving yourself.” Online shopping saves you time, energy, and money. It is a convenient and fun way to help the environment. Responsible earth-friendly shopping will make your life just a bit greener.
