Hints On How To Have A Successful Wedding Photography

January 29th, 2010

Aside from the person who actually conducts your wedding ceremony, the wedding photographer is possibly the most critical element of your wedding. The photographer is the one who will be recording your special day and striving to capture all the memories on film. It is very important that you check first the work of different photographers so you will be able to choose the best one whose style and vision matches what you wish to have on your wedding day.

So that the photo sessions are smooth, here are a few tips:

1. List all the photographs you want to have taken. State precisely what you want! Include who and what you want photographed, when it should be taken, and where the photo should be made. It is necessary to mark off the amount of coverage you prefer as well. The wedding day can be divided into four photographic sessions which are: the pre-wedding photos, the ceremony, the organized set shots or location shoot, and the reception.

2. Tell them what you want! Instruct people where to go and when to be at the photo shoot. Notify them in advance about what to wear, where they need to be, and when they need to be there.

3. Ensure that both you and the wedding photographer clearly understand what you need, and that everything is stated in writing and that you sign it.

4. Respect the procedures. Of course, this day is yours. However if you are having a chaotic experience, just think about what the photographer is going through trying to capture all of the chaos in the midst of him for a photo. Members of the bridal party, family members, friends, relatives — everyone is standing around, chatting and generally getting in the way.

You can make the entire process smooth for all involved and ease your mind, if you follow the steps above. You can ensure that the ceremony commences according to schedule and that every person goes to the reception before the food disappears! Your wedding pictures will be great if you are considerate of you wedding photographer, since his job is to photograph the memories you are making on your wedding day.

Try a Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker – Great Coffee and Convenience Too

December 11th, 2009

Same difference. A Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker is basically top of the line. It may not even cost as much as some of the competition, but the resulting brew and convenience is unsurpassed in quality (according to this reviewer).

A short list of methods I tried: Percolator – I had a friend that served some excellent stuff made with one of these, so i bought the percolator and the exact same grind. Results were OK, but not consistent. Grinding my own beans – bought many different blends from inexpensive to gourmet, but, again, no consistency.

So why does it make any difference? It’s to do with what happens when you attach the portafilter to the machine and turn it on. The water (as steam) will be forced through the layer of coffee that is sitting in the porta filter. It follows the path of least resistance; any unevenness in the layer of coffee provides a route for the steam to move through that bypasses a lot of the coffee that you have paid for and placed there so lovingly. What a waste!! By tamping you foil the steam’s sneaky attempts to find an easy way through; it has no choice but to work its way through all of the coffee. This way you maximise the potential of all of the coffee that you have placed into the porta filter.

What about convenience. If you are a one or two mug a day consumer, this is the perfect brewer. Think about all the wasted or burned coffee that has gone unconsumed. If you leave your normal pot on the heat for more than an hour, the result is an unwanted, ill-tasting beverage.

Cleanup? It’s so easy. The only thing to clean is container you drink from. Another plus is the convenience of trying different blends on a daily basis. You may start off with your first mug of extra-bold and decide that you want the “donut house” blend a little later for your second go-round. With the Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker… no problemo. And even better, you can switch to decaf later in the day – just one portion, of course.

Make sure you tamp as evenly as possible. If you want you can rotate the tamper to give a smoother surface to the coffee. And that’s it! Your coffee is now properly tamped and ready to make you great espresso with a rich flavour and fantastic crema!

Your Contemporary Kitchen – The Intelligent Design For Your Modern Family

December 4th, 2009

So many architects today love designing super modern homes. And with a modern home comes a contemporary kitchen with it’s smooth and sleek look. It’s actually wonderful to see how kitchens evolve with home design.

So today more than ever, a modern kitchen would look something like this:

Less is more. That’s the new slogan. The less clutter you have in the kitchen the more space you have. Yes and it’s space they want to create. We all know that a plain old stitched together kitchen is uninviting. We have our dishwasher sticking out like a sore thumb and our fridge takes up an entire one wall. On top of this, your work space is virtually non existent. They say this is why we are not productive in the kitchen and see it only as a dreary place to throw together a quick meal. Hence the minimalistic kitchen was born!

So it goes without saying, storage units that will compliment a kitchen like this, also have smooth surfaces made from either wood or stainless steel. The cabinets, fridge, dishwasher and recycle facilities are recessed and flows naturally with the main sleek look. You will not find any door knobs or handles, and only need to gently push a door and it will pop open effortlessly.

You cannot have too many colors in this kitchen, but if you do want some color, place a transparent glass vase somewhere that will catch the eye immediately. Here even your flowers should have a minimalist look. Choose long stemmed ones and only concentrate on one color at a time.

A smooth and sleek kitchen also has to have ultra modern lighting. You could accentuate the entire room by installing lighting in different shades of pastels. Here your lighting would be recessed and no wall lamps or structures can protrude. Take care to have a bright light on the surfaces used most for food preparation.

Flooring is important. It is very acceptable nowadays to have a plain concrete floor treated with a strong and durable varnish and accentuated with a sparsely used one-dimensional pattern. Should your kitchen be small, break through a wall and let your kitchen breath. Take this same look into the next room and you will be surprise at the new found space you have in your kitchen.

A contemporary kitchen design has the busy executive in mind. It provides a room with low maintenance and high practicalities. It has that minimalist look which helps when you need to think about your next business proposal and not be distracted by superfluous objects that are really only dust magnets.

Thyroid Conditions In Women That Are Missed

November 29th, 2009

The Harvard Medical School and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center have been working on several studies involving the thyroid for several years. One of the important results of their studies has been the revelation that ten to twelve women who are over the age of fifty have some degree of hypothyroidism. In addition the numbers of women suffering from hypothyroidism increases significantly by the age of sixty.

The symptoms of menopause in women in the fifties and sixties often masks the reality that they have hypothyroidism. Often estrogen replacement therapy is instituted and further tests to ascertain any other conditions are not pursued. When symptoms persist after the implementation of ERT, physicians often just keep changing doses of the medication and eventually, most women stop talking about their symptoms thinking that they will be thought delusional.

The hormones secreted by the Thyroid gland are important to the smooth running of the human body. These hormones regular organ functions, metabolism and many other functions.

When an individual is taking estrogen replacement treatments or have taken other medications related to menopause and still suffer from fragile nails, weight gain, lethargy, and any of the other 16 symptoms of hypothyroidism there is a possibility that menopause may not be the only issue that is causing the problem.

The study mentioned above also discussed how hard it is to diagnose thyroid conditions. The most common test conducted is a blood test called the T3 and T4. The study found that this test is not a reliable testing method and that many false negatives result in the testing.

A Thyroid Antibodies Test is also a blood test but does require more effort on the laboratory’s part. However if one suspects they may suffer from hypothyroidism it is important that this test be requested and conducted. When a thyroid condition is not diagnosed and treated there can be long term and serious results.

Without being diagnosed it is not safe to take any of the medications that are specific for the treatment of thyroid conditions. There are steps that can be taken which will help the thyroid and will make a person healthier. But to take medication without a diagnosis of the condition is not wise.

After finding out that a thyroid condition exists there are other ways to help alleviate the condition that do not include medication. The easiest of these is to change one’s diet. By eating a diet that includes more fresh fruits and vegetables, eliminating refined foods and polyunsaturate oils one will feel better and their thyroid will function much better.

Among the many herbal remedies that are available is Black Walnut. This herb contains iodine, soothes inflamed tissues, and increases blood circulation. Other herbal remedies include Bladderwrack, Irish Moss and Kelp, Ginseng, and much more. Another alternative medical remedy that has proven successful for some individual has been the use of acupuncture. This treatment is focused on increasing blood circulation and detoxifying the body.

With the number of women currently undiagnosed and untreated for hypothyroidism it is important that if an individual feels this is a condition they may be suffering from that they seek the appropriate tests from their physician to get a diagnosis and treatment plan started.

Soups to Cook and Love

November 13th, 2009

If you’re short on ideas for an appetizer, you might want to consider making a soup at home. It’s light, it warms the body, and the right ones are absolutely delicious. I have a whole cabinet full of recipes and I’d like to share some ideas with you.

Depending on what it’s in it, a good soup can vary in both consistency and taste. I’ve been cooking soups for years now, and I’m going to share a few ideas with you if you’re bored at home with the same old soups. There are plenty of ideas that you’ve probably never even thought about.

1. Apple and roasted butternut squash soup. This is a great one, as you’ve probably already had and enjoyed a nice butternut squash soup. However, the apples add some kick to this, and the two go really well together.

If you like cream of broccoli soup, I can tell you that it goes even better with cheese. Not just ordinary melted cheese, but a bread accent that’s flavored with cheese. Croutons are the best natural fit here, and the melted cheese inside the hot soup really makes it interesting.

If you’re a fan of potatoes, try throwing a nugget into the middle of a cream of potato soup. Not only does it add to the flavor, but it gives your soup a great texture, as the warm potato will really enhance the overall experience.

4. Pumpkin soup. A great option for the fall holiday, and a tasty treat as well. Add some spices into this one for an extra touch. It can be served both hot and cold, and I’d suggest sprinkling in a bit of pepper or other seasoning to give it an extra kick.

5. Ham and cheddar cheese soup. This is an original recipe that consists of a cheddar cheese brother, with bits of ham. The ham is best served boiled, which should probably go without saying if it’s inside the soup.

Well, I hope I’ve inspired you in one way or another. Most importantly, have some fun and always test the limits.

This writer also covers chimney sweep brushes and fireplace damper issues.

During Pregnancy A High Fat Diet Can Lead To Severe Liver Disease In Offspring

October 30th, 2009

Scientists have discovered a previously unknown link between a mother’s diet in pregnancy and a severe form of liver disease in her child.

In a study, published in the journal Hepatology, researchers at the University of Southampton found that a high fat diet during a woman’s pregnancy makes her offspring more likely to develop a severe form of fatty liver disease when they reach adulthood. The findings are another piece in the jigsaw for scientists who believe diets containing too high levels of saturated fat may have an adverse effect on our health.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition associated with obesity and caused by the build up of fat in the liver. The condition advances in some people and it is important to understand the factors that contribute to disease progression. Until recently, NAFLD was considered rare and relatively harmless but now it is one of the most common forms of liver disease that may progress to cirrhosis a serious life threatening chronic liver disease.

Professor Christopher Byrne, with colleagues Dr Felino Cagampang and Dr Kim Bruce, of the University’s School of Medicine and researchers at King’s College London, conducted the study, funded by the BBSRC. Prof Byrne explained: “This research shows that too much saturated fat in a mother’s diet can affect the developing liver of a fetus, making it more susceptible to developing fatty liver disease later in life. An unhealthy saturated fat-enriched diet in the child and young adult compounds the problem further causing a severe form of the fatty liver disease later in adult life.”

The next stage of this research, also funded by the BBSRC, will be to understand, more precisely, the reason why fatty liver disease develops and to intervene to prevent the fatty liver disease occurring.

The University’s School of Medicine has a worldwide reputation for its pioneering research into the relationship between mothers’ diets in pregnancy and future health problems in their offspring.

What About the Gaggia 74845 Model?

October 22nd, 2009

Gaggia are one of the world’s most renowned manufacturers of coffee machines for the home and have the added advantage of being an authentic Italian manufacturer. Although more expensive than many other machines on the market this is reflected in the quality of the brew the Gaggia Vision 74845 produces.

The Gaggia 74845 Platinum Vision coffee machine also has a built-in bean grinder, processing the beans within the coffee machine itself making the coffee you achieve as fresh as possible. This allows you to brew your coffee without any of the mess which you may face when using separate grinders and espresso machines.

The additional grinding functions mean that the Gaggia 74845 Platinum Vision does have quite a lot of parts to clean. All of these detach quite easily as well as being made of stainless steel, so cleaning them is relatively simple if a little time consuming.

The additional grinding functions mean that the Gaggia 74845 Platinum Vision does have quite a lot of parts to clean. All of these detach quite easily as well as being made of stainless steel, so cleaning them is relatively simple if a little time consuming.

Another important feature for getting the best quality is the use of an aqua prima water filter inside the Gaggia 74845 Platinum Vision. This makes the machine a particularly good option for those living in hard water areas.

One of the main drawbacks of the Gaggia 74845 Platinum Vision Bean to Cup Coffee Machine is that it can be quite complicated to operate when you first start out. The fact that there are so many functions on the machine means you might need to read through the instructions two or three times before you can master the basic operations.

Even though it is a little complicated, this is largely because of the sheer amount of different things that you can do with the Gaggia 74845. In addition to espresso, there is of course a crema to froth milk, and the Gaggia makes it quite easy to produce any variation on the cappuccino which you would find in the local coffee shop.

The Gaggia 74845 Platinum Vision is not only advanced in terms of functionality though it looks really great too. Most of the main features are made of stainless steel rather than having an imitation finish. This means that the Gaggia 74845 looks great in any kitchen and is definitely one appliance you will proud to show off.

To summarise, the Gaggia 74845 Platinum Vision Bean to Cup Coffee Machine is the best option to go for if you have a little extra to spend since the quality of the brew it produces is exceptional.

From Grande Soy Lattes to Cafe con Dulce de Leche: Coffee Culture Around the World

October 21st, 2009

Visiting a foreign land for the first time and totally clueless about where to go or what to do first? Just find a local cafe. Whether its right as businesses and markets are opening, during the slow afternoon hours after busy people have gone back to their jobs, or late at night instead of hitting a bar, there’s always something to learn at a cafe. In fact, the best way to learn about the country or city you’re visiting is by hanging out, having a coffee, and looking around.

In fact, it’s easy to learn about a place by studying the caf? lifestyle. For example, if you’re in the United States, in most any city that’s not a New York or a San Francisco, you’re going to find that the way that most people do coffee is as fast as they possibly can. From driving through the window at the local Starbucks to a number of to-go options in malls and shopping centers, coffee isn’t so much an experience to be savored, but a substance to be consumed as quickly as possible. It seems that Starbucks has been responsible for introducing concepts like flavors and soy milk to suburban areas, though, and even Dunkin Donuts has had to step up their game and finally offer espresso.

A number of countries are rather relaxed, but others even elevate their culture from simply enjoyable to intellectually important. Over by the university on the left bank of Paris, a number of tourists flock to the cafes where Sarte and other existentialists wrote some of the most important books of the 20th century. In a city like Paris, the caf? lifestyle is about something more than just leisure. It’s about valuing the time to think and create on your own, but also thinking that is an exchange that can happen out in public.

A couple of cities in The United States are a better look at what could have been, or rather, what was before Starbucks made carry-out to-go coffee the thing that everyone needed and wanted. At a couple of regal cafes in New York, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco, you’ll get laughed out the door if you try to order a “tall” anything. Families who came to the States managed to order large machines from the old country that make seriously great drinks, so it’s possible to sit for awhile and enjoy a decent coffee and a sandwich with the other people in the neighborhood who value such things.

The concept of snacks coming with a coffee isn’t just something that happens in the Northern Hemisphere. Down south in Argentina, a country of immigrants, cafe culture is also alive and bustling. But in Argentina, especially in the capital city of Buenos Aires, it’s about more than just sitting down and having an Italian-style coffee. There’s usually a small glass of soda water, three or four cookies, and even in some bars, some chips or a small sandwich. It’s a pretty great deal, and no wonder that it seems that from the hours of two until eight in the evening, cafes all over the city are packed with everyone from young soccer fans to elderly couples hanging out and enjoying their coffee and snacks.

The thing about the snacks in these other countries where the caf? lifestyle is important is that it’s pretty much permission to stay as long as you want. There’s no one trying to turn the tables over fast in the afternoon, and every extra item that comes with that coffee buys you at least ten more minutes to sit, relax, and hang out.

And there’s just something more relaxing about the time to sit and talk for awhile. Even though that culture might not exist in your home country, or perhaps the pace of work is threatening it, but it’s an important relic of a time where life was about more than just work, even when everyone was working. And work might actually save the caf? lifestyle. Because now, if you have a laptop, you pretty much have an excuse to sit as long as you like, in a public place, under the guise of work.

If you’re traveling for business, visiting a different city for a little while, or relocating abroad, the best possible thing to do is to head to a popular local coffee spot. In just an afternoon, you’ll learn more about a country by watching its citizens drink coffee and talk than you would from a whole stack of Lonely Planet guidebooks.

Consider the Philips Senseo HD7860 Coffee Maker

October 15th, 2009
by Glenda Morgan

Even though it is not a Bean to Cup Coffee Maker, the Philips Senseo HD7860 is the most recent embodiment of easy to use, reasonably instantaneous authentic coffee makers, using coffee pads. We have reviewed the model. First impressions are ….well …. imposing. It is described as a maker for people who favor straight lines to curves. It does have one or two curves, as it happens, but is a very fine looking, yet compact maker (standing around 17 cm wide, 22 cm deep and 25 cm high). It comes in black or white.

It’s a bit worrying when you prepare the machine for use for the first time as its very noisy whilst being flushed. However its much quieter when being used after that.

So what is the Philips HD7860 like in everyday use?

It has two spouts, so you can produce either one or two cups at any one time. And, unlike some previous models, the height of the base where the cups sit can be varied, enabling larger cup or mugs to be used if you choose.. The height varies from 97 to 117 mm.It takes around 30 seconds to make one cup, or 50 seconds for two.

The HD7860/60 has a particularly large capacity, holding up to 1.2 litres. This can easily make 8 cups. Each cup is 120ml.

The HD7860 has an automatic shut-off feature after 30 minutes, which is very useful.

The coffee pads are much better value than the coffee pods that have been conventionally used in such machines. Although the Senseo ones are about 15p each, you can get other ones much cheaper, and being pads there should not in the main be a compatibility issue. Any coffee pads need to be circular to put in the Philips Senseo HD7860.We have used original and substitute coffee pads and the coffee produced by each has been first-rate.

This is a terrific coffee machine. Its unique selling point is its looks. The HD7860 will look especially good in a contemporary kitchen with darker worktops – much better, we consider than the conventional, more rounded machines
