Televisions Have Come A Long Way Since Their Invention

January 22nd, 2010

As technology grows so does the use of our home television sets. There was actually a time when no one had a TV. The new technology entered the American home in the 1950’s and Americans have never been the same. America has gone from the minority or people owning televisions in the home to it being a minority not owning a TV in the home.

Where the average home had one television years ago this is not the case anymore. The average American home has five television sets and sometimes more. There is no area in your home where you cannot have the possibility of watching TV. And with other services with cable and satellite you can be plugged in all hours of the day and night.

Even the bathroom is a place where people have a TV. There are special televisions that are made to withstand moisture for places in the home where condensation occurs. You may also find special suited screens in other places in the home. Wireless technology is giving the ability for us to tune in anywhere without the use of cords and other needs that were once a necessity. We can even access the web from our televisions to connect to the world.

Many cooks appreciate a nice TV in the kitchen as well. They can watch their favorite cooking show or just be entertained while they are preparing a meal. Many TVs that are designed for the kitchen or similar work areas are also built in with a radio to have options. Some are even included with a CD or MP3 player.

Placing a TV anywhere is more accessible with the invention of the flat screen TV. This enables you to place a TV out of the way on a wall or hang from under a cabinet. There are more and more options to the placement of your TV so it does not take up a lot of room. They used to be out of reach in pricing but now they are coming down in price on a weekly basis across the country.

Technology has not missed you cell phone either. More and more cell phones are being equipped with the ability to watch streaming TV. This gives you anything you need on the go, anytime and anywhere.

Once thought of as a fad, television are here to stay and have become a vital part our ability to keep in touch with what is happening in the world. We can not only be entertained but also get breaking news and other information from the world that keeps us connected.

An Enduring Television Classic, Andy Griffith

December 3rd, 2009

It seems as if everyone has heard of the imaginary town of Mayberry. The town with Sheriff Andy Taylor never was a real town. Instead, this small town where life seems so simple as compared to today, only existed on television.

Almost everyone knows Opie and his dad, Sheriff Andy from the Andy Griffith Show. The show began in’60 and ran for eight seasons. Now, over forty years after the last show was taped, Mayberry continues to air daily through syndicated television. People still enjoy the warm humor and the simple stories.

Andy Griffith played sheriff Andy Taylor. He was the reason the show grew in popularity. Andy was the wise and calm sheriff of Mayberry and Barney Fife was his high strung deputy.

Parts of the show came from Andy Griffith’s real life. There were shops that appeared in the make believe television town of Mayberry that had real counterparts in Griffith’s hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Mount Airy was portrayed in the show as the next little town down the road.

In college, Andy Griffith studied music; however, his specialty has always been country humor. Several years before the show began, Andy made his first recording, a monologue entitled “What it Was, Was Football.”

Griffith also acted on Broadway. His Broadway play, “No Time for Sargents” was filmed as a movie during the’50s.

After the Andy Griffith Show filmed its last episode, Griffith tried a few more television shows, but did not find any more hits for several years. Almost twenty years passed before he got the lead role in Matlock during’86. In this show he was a country lawyer skilled at solving crimes.

In 2006, Andy Griffith left his North Carolina home to travel to Los Angeles in order to say good-by to friend and former co-star Don Knotts. Knotts was battling cancer at the time and in the hospital. Shortly after Andy’s visit, Knotts died.

Andy Griffith has won several awards. The Broadway acting he did gave him two Tony nominations. For the television series, Matlock, he won the People’s Choice award in’87. He has also been awarded the Metal of Freedom award. Andy Griffith’s home state has dedicated a section of a state highway to him.

Andy’s hard work has given him success in many different branches of the entertainment field. Some of these successes are in outdoor theater, Broadway, stand up comedy and movies, but his biggest success will always be from the role of Sheriff Andy Taylor in the television town of Mayberry.

Director of The Original Splatter Film (Blood Feast- 1963) To Release New Film

October 11th, 2009
by Thomas Lloyd

Any true slasher movie buff knows the legendary director, Herschell Gordon Lewis. Also known as “The Godfather of Gore,” Lewis has written and directed more than 30, B-list films over his long career. Most of his films were made between 1963 and 1979.

Then he seemingly disappeared from the world of gore films. For 30 years, he built his reputation as an advertising man and today he is considered one of the world’s leading authorities on direct response advertising, making more money a year than many of his films have grossed in their lifetime.

But even after his long absense, the infamous gore director has kept his love for film-making. The carnage-craving director can’t stay away any longer. “Making movies is like Malaria” he says. “It gets in your blood and stays there.”

His latest film “The Uh-Oh Show,” currently in post production is tentatively scheduled for release early in 2010. It’s about a hit game show where contestants win a lifetime of wealth if they answer the questions correctly… but if they answer wrong they get their limbs hacked off with a variety of intimidating devices.

This movie could only come from the twisted mind of Herschell Gordon Lewis

Recently, Herschell Gordon Lewis has become more mainstream, with a reverent reference in the award winning movie, “Juno.” But his films themselves are anything but mainstream.

“The Uh-Oh Show will, I think, mark a change in the direction of this kind of movie,” Lewis says. “Of late, a lot of these movies are derivative. You think you’re seeing the same movie over and over again. I don’t think they’re going to think that when they see The Uh-Oh Show! We mix outrageous splatter effects with hot humor so everyone knows immediately that it’s just a gag.”

Lewis’s films defy all generation gaps. The reactions are the same, regardless of age. Either audiences love it and find it disturbingly hilarious… or they think he should be in jail.

The Uh-Oh Show! is scheduled for film festival releases in December of 2009 and on DVD early in 2010.

Understanding Television Buying Mistakes And Misconceptions if Shopping for a Television like the Panasonic Viera TX-P42X10

October 6th, 2009
by Kristina Chung

The introduction of the TV is long in the past now. They have been about commercially since the 1940’s and they have been a staple in homes since about a decade soon after. They came in on the heels of radio programs that they replaced swiftly and Saturday afternoon serials at the movie theater. It was all the rage for the family to gather around the new TV and just get pleasure from it like they used to sit around the fire and tell tales. Back then there was only one type of Television to buy and the people had no alternative in the matter. Times have changed and now Television buying is a knotty operation.

The first thing to remember is that not all stores have the same price for their merchandise. Okay this is pretty silly to point out, but the main thing is to make sure and shop around. Don’t just stop at the first good deal you find.

Make sure that you know what is available when you are Television buying and what you can get it for before you go to the actual store. This means that you will need to research several different sites and find out what everyone has available. You can actually see what different stores have them for using a comparison site and then do your shopping at the store that offers you the most for the best price.

You may want to look into the possibility of buying the set through the internet, this means that you will have the option of looking over all available models of the type that you want and seeing what kind of deals are available and then grabbing it. There are two ways that you can do this. You can buy through a big box store site and then go to the store to pick it up. This may be the best option because it allows you to avoid some later expense. If you decide that you want to have it shipped directly to you, you will have to pay an extra shipping price and you will want to buy insurance also. This will mean that the savings you had been trying for are gone.

Know what you are talking about when you go into the store. The sales people will be impressed that they can talk to someone who took some time to get to know the products. It wastes less of their time and allows you to go onto the store and browse the selection without needing their help unless you run into something you do not know about.

Something else that all stores will try to do is sell you a multi-year warranty. They do this because it makes money for the store, but it only ends up costing you a hundred bucks and not saving anything.

Make sure that you ask the sales person what type of deal that you can get in this set. Be willing to haggle a little bit. Usually there is at least a 15% mark up on big items in a store. It can save you money if you understand this.

The last thing that you may hear before you purchase a set like the Panasonic TX-P42X10 is that you can actually get ten percent off if you open a credit card today and purchase it that way. Don’t be a victim. They do this because the store is getting all the profit from this transaction. Understand what is happening during the TV buying transaction and you will have a good experience.

Buying Your HDTV – Online or Offline

October 6th, 2009
by Adam Trupkinskin

Once you have completed your investigation and made a decision the high definition television model that you believe would most likely to correspond to your requirements and wants, it’s time to resolve where to actually make the buying. In the past, you really didn’t have much of a choice, and the community electronics retailer is almost certainly the lone site you could go. Now the internet has made online shopping a good deal simpler and better, so the issue at this instant is should you buy online or offline?

In reality, it is typically a good plan to visit the community electronics store to have an actual demonstration of almost any TV that you are pondering on buying. That’s a big advantage that offline traders hold, you can in fact physically inspect the goods prior to the sale.

Yet, if it is a big electronics store chains, frequently, the service may not be that good, and don’t insist on the sales workers to be especially informed either. They are usually low remunerated workers who are not employed for their familiarity of the goods. The high turnover rate frequently stops you from speaking to a very knowledgeable person. They also are usually more concerned with vending the merchandise they desire you to procure rather than the merchandise that you desire to purchase therefore their opinions would usually be one-sided. So, these types of shops are usually only good for doing investigations and gathering product data.

The higher line electronics stores can be great sources of information and the assistance is frequently a lot better there, but you pay for all of that, as the costs for equivalent goods would regularly be much higher than at the retail stores.

Online sellers can differ highly and range in array from fresh to experienced, reliable vendors. The one great pro that online retailers hold over their offline equals is by far low overhead costs. That implies that they do not have to generate as much revenue on each transaction to stay in the trade as the offline retailers do. The reduction are then go to you.

Because high definition televisions are a pricey acquisition to start with, the add-on costs related with delivering are most frequently offset by the fact that you don’t have to shell out sales tax on the item.

The most important issue to consider about online sellers is the need to do business with those that have been in business for a long time. That is a sign of stability in their business practices. It is likewise good to transact with vendors who are sanctioned dealers for the products that they advertise. Again, that refers more to the quality of the full transaction that you are dealing with.

Generally therefore, if you do enough inquiries in advance in the Internet to get a hold a sound working knowledge of the high definition television goods that are obtainable, and then visit a neighborhood shop to actually demonstrate them, you can therefore put aside significant quantities of cash by purchasing your ideal model online from a famous, trustworthy dealer.
