Clever And Uncomplicated Tips For Baby Proofing Your Home

December 5th, 2009

Baby proofing your home is one of many ways to keep your precious children safe from harm. The home is actually one of the most dangerous places for children, because parents can often overlook hazards that can put their children at risk. Unfortunately, these hazards can be anywhere. Fortunately, there is something you can do about it. Child proof your home.

Here are a few simple things you can go to keep your baby safe from harm in your home.

Covering Low Sharp Edges

The adult shin has been victimized by the coffee table edge since the creation of the coffee table. Our shins bruise but recover. Baby heads are just as susceptible to damage from a coffee table edge as any shin. This is more of a risk to babies just learning to move on their own.

In order to prevent injury to your baby, you can purchase plastic or rubber table edging or even just put some sturdy tape around the edges of any table low enough for your baby to reach.

Cover Exposed Power Outlets

One of the most dangerous hazards in the home for babies is the exposed or open electrical outlet. Babies have no concept of what shouldn’t be put where so sticking any object into an outlet just seems like something for them to do- even if it can cause fatal electrocution, shorts and electrical fires.

To prevent injury from electrocution, install the small plastic outlet caps that can be purchased at any store. Make sure to install the caps even in sockets that are covered by furniture.

Gate Off Hazards

The baby on the verge of toddling wants to explore the world around them. This means that any space in your house is fair game, even the non-baby proofed rooms. Placing a baby proof gate at the top and bottom of the staircase will keep your baby from taking a tumble. Also, gating off rooms with potentially hazardous items (kitchens, sewing rooms, bathrooms) is a good idea.

Placing a baby safe gate here and there around your house can also help corral baby and keep them where you can always see them.

Latching and Locking Lower Cupboards

Most of us have use our lower cupboards to store cleaners, tools, mouse traps and other sundry items. These items are fine for us, but babies have no idea about the dangers of ingesting what can be found in lower cupboards. Childproof locks are available in the baby section or home improvement section of stores.

Baby proofing your home is as simple as following these tips. Help make your home safe for your baby.

Trying To Conceive A Baby Girl?

December 1st, 2009

Want to add a “Daddy’s little girl” to your family? Need a girl to go with the boy/boys you already have?

By implementing three simple, all natural steps you can effectively raise you odds of conceiving a baby girl from 50/50 to well over 94%!

The late Dr. Landrum Shettles developed these three simple steps to help you conceive a child of the gender of your choosing, many years ago. Many thousands of couples have used these steps to conceive the baby girl they have always dreamed of. Let’s take a lokk at these steps in a little more detail shall we?

1. You’ll need to track your ovulation cycle precisely. This is a very important piece of the gender selection process, and you’ll need to get this right!

2. You’ll want to have sex to conceive using only shallow penetration. This is because you want to give the sperm a long and difficult journey to the egg (if wanting a girl) so the boy sperm dies off leaving only the girl sperm alive to do the deed.

3. You’ll need to control your body’s ph. There are test strips available at my site to help you keep track of you ph and help you know when the time is right! You can control your ph with your diet and taking a few supplements (over time) or much quicker by douching with the right solution, (although because of the risk of infections I would recommend using douching only under your doctors supervision.)

These techniques while being low-tech and easy to implement will still need to be implemented with precision and diligents if you are to be successful in conceiving that baby girl you desire.

Visit my site for more information as well as links to the best guides online to walk you through the process step by step. I would look at it this way: if your serious about adding a baby girl to your family seek all the help you can get, but if you fail in your efforts, well you’ll still have a beautiful little baby boy to love and cherish!

Shopping for Baby Strollers the Right Way

October 12th, 2009
by Entera Sheekor

There are many gears and gadgets to consider and buy when having a baby. Most parents spend a lot of time determining which brands and styles are right for their baby needs when it comes to car seats, cribs, swings, and strollers. Knowing the safest and most practical baby item can be confusing and stressful. However, there are a few tips to keep in mind that will make your job of choosing a baby stroller a little easier.

Above all, you want a baby stroller that is safe for transporting your baby from location to location. That is the primary purpose of the stroller, with things like storage space being secondary. A stroller should feel sturdy and not shaky. It should not easily collapse or fold. The weight limit should be examined carefully to ensure that it is appropriate for carrying your baby plus any bags that you may add to the handles or underneath compartment.

A safety harness is a must; a five point harness is a necessity for infants, though toddlers may be fine with a three point harness instead. Also make sure that before choosing a baby stroller that it has not been recalled, especially if you are looking at a used stroller.

After you find some strollers that meet the necessary safety requirements, you have to start looking at whether or not the stroller will be comfortable to push around. A stroller should be easy to push, so try it out by giving it a test drive.

You should not have to reach up or bend down to reach the handles of the stroller – if there are padded handles, this is a big plus. You should also look at the wheels, which should move smoothly.

Much of choosing a baby jogger comes in knowing your needs. How many features do you want from your stroller? Do you need extra compartments for snacks, bags, and sippy cups or just room for your baby? Depending on your needs, you may can get by with a lightweight stroller. Jogging strollers are also a consideration if you plan to be walking on rough terrain or outdoors a lot.

When you are choosing a baby stroller, you need to take the age of your children into account for sizing the stroller as well as whether you will need to push one child or two. Models which accommodate one or two children are available; double strollers are ideal if you have more than one child and there are styles which are designed for children of differing ages as well.

Choosing a baby stroller can be relatively easy as long as you know what you need from this important baby accessory. Narrow the choices down to those which meet the safety criteria and try out these strollers and consider their features before you decide on the stroller you think best. You should always try out a stroller before purchasing and if possible, ask friends and family for recommendations.

Babys Best 1st Gift From Mom

October 8th, 2009
by Edie Mindell

I have no idea with other countries, perhaps I should research on this later, but in my country, the Philippines, since 1995, the last week of September each year is dedicated to the family, the Filipino family, for clarity. Although specifically, the celebration is a FAMILY WEEK, activities are spread over the entire month thus, sometimes the event is referred to as the Family Month. Organizers highlight the event with activities consistent with the main objective of strengthening the Filipino unity, solidarity and stability, in view of its socio-economic contribution to national development.

Among the many activities conducted for this event, the one that strikes me most is the premium placed on wellness of children particularly in the babyhood age. Perhaps, these could be measures undertaken to reverse the malnutrition situation in the country. One of the effective though simple measures is breastfeeding. In 2006, the Philippines, as reported by UNICEF, landed in the Guinness Book of World Records, when almost 4,000 mothers ” along with their babies ” have helped to set a world record for simultaneous breastfeeding beating the previous Guinness world record set by 1,135 women in Berkeley, California.

Why do I discuss about breastfeeding when I am supposed to tackle gifts for babies? Simple ” I find breastfeeding the best first gift that a mother must and need to give her baby. I dont need to narrate the importance and the benefits of feeding the little angel from the breast of her own mother ” there are millions of references on this readily available on the websites of medical and nutrition experts.

Besides, I am not an expert who can explain the specific vitamins, minerals, etc . that the breast milk offers ” I will leave that to you childs pediatrician. What I know and greatly appreciate is that the act of breastfeeding promotes physical and emotional bond between a mother and a child. A special bond which grows beyond boundaries of time and age. Picture out a baby clothed in a mothers embrace while getting her sustenance from the mothers breast. Is it not awesome? Will you yourself not revel in the experience of caring for a baby in similar manner?

While we are on the subject of physical and emotional bond between a mother and her baby through breastfeeding, I am inspired to share with you a poem which although does not literally speak about breastfeeding, it universally captures the reasons why we must care for children. This is written by Mary Botham Howitt, and it goes:

God sent children for another purpose than merely to keep up the pace ” to enlarge our hearts; and to make us unselfish and full of kindly sympathies and affections; to give our souls higher aims; to call out all our faculties to extended enterprise and exertion; and to sing round our firesides bright faces, happy smiles and loving, tender hearts.

To mothers I say, whatever your circumstances, whether or not caring for a child led you to metamorphose into a woman with ill-fitting shirt and jeans – thanks to extra pounds gained or lose – remind yourself that these are just fleeting trappings of slipping into motherhood.

Just keep on holding your baby with her soft head a perfect fit under your chin, her tiny hands splayed out like small pink starfish against your arms, her wispy curls lifts with the breeze, and her face creased and rosy in the morning. Laugh at how the sunshine makes your baby sniff and squint ” LAUGH OUT LOUD!

Tips On How To Get Pregnant Fast

October 6th, 2009
by Steve Brodie

Getting pregnant can be very problematic. Around eighty five percent of couples will get pregnant within a year if they are having regular unprotected intercourse. If you are one of the twenty five percent of couples who have been trying for over a year without results, then you may have fertility problems.

Age of course is a factor in fertility, with conventional studies putting a womans fertility in decline after thirty, and a mans after around forty, though men suffer in this way far less than women. It is estimated that it will take around three to four times longer for a woman over thirty five to conceive.

Finding out how to get pregnant fast and naturally is the key, especially if you are over thirty five and dont want to wait for three or four more years to get pregnant. Despite what conventional wisdom says about age, there are natural methods that will enable you to get pregnant fast no matter if you are thirty five or forty.

First things first; you need to know your menstrual cycle back to front. Knowing when you ovulate means you can know when the right times are to try. It seems so obvious I know, but there are a surprising number of couples who dont understand the ovulation cycle and thus keep trying at the wrong times and so take longer to fall pregnant.

Keeping a record of your basal body temperature is one way to know when ovulation occurs, as your temperature will rise at this time. There are also mini microscopes designed to show the cellular pattern of your saliva. When ovulation occurs hormones change the pattern of your saliva making it visibly different and easy for you to see when the right times are to try.

It is also important to take care of your health ” tilling the soil in a manner of speaking. An important element in pregnancy preparation is folic acid, so making sure your diet is rich in folate by eating green leafy vegetables and lots of legumes is important, taking folic acid supplements helps as well. If you have any ovarian problems such as fibroids or cysts, you need to also deal with this problem, as it can be a huge inhibitor to pregnancy and cause serious infertility problems.

Rushing into surgery or drugs for fibroids and cysts is not a good idea, unless absolutely necessary because despite what you may have been told there are naturally ways to deal with fibroids and cysts. Understanding the damage that some fertility drugs and treatment can cause to your hormonal and reproductive system is important, especially given the fact that there are natural alternatives which can help you achieve pregnancy quickly and safely.

IVF and other treatments and medications are not without their complications and side effects, and sometimes this can lead to less fertility in the future. Playing around with your hormones can cause serious emotional and physical upheavals, and many couple using fertility drugs and IVF have the common problem of multiple births ” not everyone wanting a baby wants twin or triplets!.

Getting pregnant fast is easy if you do everything you can to help. Infertility is usually an indication of internal imbalances, and these are usually caused by multiple factors. That is why using a drug to treat one aspect of the problem so often yields no results. Thinking of your body as a whole, and getting your fertility treatment to address the whole will enable you to get pregnant faster, easier and without needing to use drugs.

Your dream of a healthy happy baby and a natural pregnancy are within your grasp. Tackling every piece of the fertility puzzle and understanding your body is the key to getting pregnant fast.

Parenting Tips – Children’s Car Seat

October 6th, 2009
by Tim L.

You should already be aware of the fact that before the hospital releases your baby, you have to have your child’s car seat. There are many choices to fit every age, from infant car seats to child booster seats. Sometimes it is overwhelming to select the right one for your needs. You will also find an array of designs and colors, however, most importantly; you need to check the car seat’s safety features before you make a purchase.

One essential thing to keep in mind while comparison-shopping for an infant seat or child booster seat is to never buy pre-owned car seats! It is essential that the integrity of the car seat be intact. You also need to know if there is a recall, especially for any known safety issues. Shopping thrift stores and consignment shops are fine for everything else baby related, however, this is not true of car seats.

It is best to start shopping a couple of months in advance of the anticipated delivery date for your child’s car seat. Your car seat will probably be used every day, so you want one that is appealing to you visually. Just remember, the cute pink print isn’t what will protect your baby.

The design of infant seats is especially for infants. They are rear-facing seats. You need to leave them in rear facing positions for as long as you can. You need to read and follow the manufacturers details for the seat. Most of them can safely hold 20 pounds or at least up to a one-year-old child. Petite children should stay in a rear facing position until the baby grows to become one inch below the head of the car seat.

Many rear-facing car seats are convertible; therefore, once your child grows bigger you can face the seat forward. You do need to have one that satisfies the correct positioning for the weight and age of the child. Generally, this design allows for up to 40 pounds. If your child’s car seat is not convertible, you need to purchase a newer, more suitable car seat when your child outgrows it. Many states require an elementary school child to use a child booster seat.

You need to look for a car seat that will properly fit in your vehicle. Therefore, measure from the seat to the ceiling as well as the horizontal area in the backseat. This will be of assistance while selecting a car seat, since regardless of the safety features you do not want the child to touch the car ceiling. Make sure that your child is not isolated from the lack of space in the backseat. You will need to be able to reach around to soothe the child when needed.

You need to do some research into any model that interests you. Check the safety features as well as search for complaints or recalls for any model you may purchase.

The proper installation of children’s car seats is essential. Car seats should not be able to move more than an inch in any direction. If you are unsure of the installation, visit the police station or the hospital to find someone who can help you learn how to install your child’s car seat.

The car seat you use should be safe and suitable for you, your child and the vehicle you drive. This is essential to have peace of mind while driving with your child in tow.

Christmas Babies: Gift Ideas

September 30th, 2009
by Keith Winchester

Having a baby in the days leading up to Christmas can be a wonderful thing. It’s a time year that holds a special place in the heart for many people and a new addition to the family seems to add to that fantastic sense of happiness. It can also help to bring the entire family even closer together, at a time of the year that many people associate with families.

You may have been fortunate enough to have had a baby around Christmas time. In this case, you could be considering what to buy as a gift for the new arrival. Alternatively, if a new baby has arrived for a friend or family member, you might be thinking about whether to buy something for the baby or the parents. How can you approach getting the right present?

If you’re one of the parents then your task is considerably easier. One simple solution would be to have a conversation with you partner to see what’s really needed. An option, for example, might be for the two of you to decide on a gift that would be practical. If this isn’t in line with your thinking then you could opt for something that will be special for years to come. Soft toys can make particularly good Christmas presents.

If you’re in the position of buying a present for someone else’s child then things can seem a little more difficult than when buying for your own baby. An ideal option might be to speak to the parents and see if there’s is anything that they think would be useful. Alternatively, you could rely on your own inspiration. Stop to consider some special items that the parents have not been able to buy themselves.

Some people ask whether it’s possible to purchase the wrong present for a baby. Fortunately, this tends to be hard to do because most parents are appreciative of receiving any gifts. If in doubt, you can always check whether your gift will be safe and suitable before making a purchase.

Devil Halloween Costumes For Kids – Let Your Child Be a Cut Above the Other Devils This Halloween

September 30th, 2009
by Peggy Huiseghems

It’s that time of the year again, break out the treats and prepare for the onslaught; the endless stream of trick-or-treaters in all their gory glory. You’re in for a devil of a time.

There are so many devil Halloween costumes for children to pick from it might be a good idea to narrow them down by picking something that perfectly suits your child’s devilish nature. This year, there are dozens of new child devil costumes for Halloween to choose from so why wear something from last year?

For those kids that can’t decide if they want to be naughty or nice, there are a range of costumes that perfectly illustrate that they can be such angels on one hand and utter devils on the other. From the Here Comes Trouble Infant Costume for your angelic little devil with a halo and devil’s tail, to the Naughty & Nice Toddler Costume that will have Santa totally confused when it comes to his naughty and nice lists. The Double Trouble Costume for the older child is just too cute for words.

If the halo is long gone and your little one is all devil, dressing them appropriately on Halloween won’t be a problem. No matter what size they are you’ll find a kids devil costume that fits. For D’Little Devil there’s the Devil D’Little outfit – suitable for Infants and Toddlers. The older girl with full grown horns will fit nicely into the Devil Chick Child Costume. The fashion conscious tween devil will prefer the Devil in Da Hood Costume.

Maybe your little girl isn’t really a devil – just more of a brat sometimes? No problem at all. Check out the Bratz Almost an Angel Child Costume and let her be a little bit naughty and a little bit nice in this cute outfit with horns and wings.

If your family has royal blood running through the veins – or just a girl who’s a right royal pain – the Princess Devil Child Costume should be a consideration. Let her be a cut above the other devils in her red dress with gold trim and padded horns.

The child or teen who sprouted horns and a tail before leaving the hospital delivery room will find the Born Bad Costume to be a match made in heaven – or hell. The gorgeous layered red skirt and black tank top will turn a few heads, but this Born Bad girl looks too hot to handle.

But the night is all about staring the devil in the face and surviving, so how about a fiery and fierce Faces Devil Costume for children or teens. She’ll look cool but people will feel the fire of her wrath if the treats aren’t forthcoming.

The little boy with a black outlook and a thirst for evil adventure can help Satan out wearing the Evil Warlock Costume. Get him a pitchfork to go with it – if you dare! Then again, he’s probably already got his own.

You’ll know you’re headed for trouble if your tween insists on the Gleam Girls Devil Tween Costume. She really will look too hot to handle – but some will try – so you’d better get into your own devil Halloween costume and take a giant sized pitchfork with you!
