Corporate Boat Cruises Are Gaining Steam

February 25th, 2010

One industry that is gaining steam is the provider of corporate boat cruises. These smaller cruise lines and yacht leasing companies are attracting more business through better advertising, deluxe services, and fantastic rates. Encouragingly, more and more corporations are joining in the trend and booking mini-cruises for their employees and clientele.

If you research corporate boat cruises into any search engine and you will find dozens of companies vying for your business. Overall, they are pretty much the same with the exception of some pricing and a variation in the amenities offered. There are also companies who specialize in yacht rentals that may meet the same need. Most of the cruise and yacht companies are willing to negotiate a price should you have special needs or requests.

Corporations that normally utilize in-house facilities or hotel suites and conference rooms are now joining the cause. The main reason is that small cruise lines can now compete with hotel rates and in many ways, offer greater value. The amenities a cruise ship or yacht can offer are in most cases vastly superior to that of a hotel.

Reasons corporations book hotels or cruises vary from company to company. Whether your corporation is networking, making a presentation to clients, conducting training or brainstorming meetings, or enjoying some good old fashioned camaraderie and corporate/workforce bonding, corporate boat cruises have the facilities you need. Based on my research, they have a package for just about every type of corporate function. All of the packages are completely flexible and you can even create a package of your own.

Some cruise lines have an older and quainter fleet of vessels that are like floating museums restored to their original luster. Others sport modern ships over one hundred feet long and use up-to- date technology like GPS and satellite TV. Whether your tastes run from nostalgic or conventional, corporate boat cruises have something to offer everyone.

The cost of a small cruise ship compared to hotel facilities is close. The cruise ship is a few hundred dollars more but many of the extras that you would pay a hotel are included in the cruise package making it the better value. Just like hotels, pricing ranges from cruise company to cruise company. On average, $1.000 to $4.000 is about standard depending on the length of the cruise and the entertainment or dining package included.

Virtually every corporate boat cruise business has an event manager that you will speak with when inquiring. This person will guide you through the entire process from your first contact to the actual experience. These professional salespersons are highly trained and very good at making sure you get the most bang for your buck. They specialize in hospitality and corporate events right down to the details of what food is served, staffing, and destination planning.

Here are a few tips you may need when you book your first corporate boat cruises with business or pleasure in mind. Have all your eggs in one basket as this will limit the time and amount of calls in which you will have to be involved. Know your dates but be ready to be flexible. This may mean you will have to plan your corporate cruise well in advance of the initial call. Being prepared is the hardest part of booking a corporate cruise. Be prepared to have some fun as well.

If visiting the Toronto Harbour inspires your adventurous and fun loving side, then Toronto cruises are perfect for you! Tourists and vacationers can find plenty of excitement aboard Halloween cruises.

Want To Beat Stress? Well You Can’t Beat Fishing

October 5th, 2009
by George Ross

It might not be physically demanding, but the modern corporate life can really drain one’s energy and frazzle the nerves to the point where we just loose the appetite to do anything at all. This is a dilemma for people like me who prefer to move forward and be on top of situations. Most of us just get stuck in the rut of our daily routine and we become less efficient. We wonder how we can get our mojo running again.

People who work really hard need to have a change of environment and routine once in a while to get recharged some motivational experts say. The thing to do the trick could just be a complete deviation from their normal surroundings and the things they normally do. The city life can really be testing and people need to get away from it all to re-oil their engines.

A lot of people have taken up fishing as a leisure interest. It provides them with the quiet time they need, and provides them with goals to give them a sense of fulfillment. It is also a perfect activity for bonding time with family and friends. A dinner of fish to follow thereafter is not such a bad idea as well.

Fishing can be a tricky business for beginners. If you are contemplating taking up fishing as a weekend endeavor, fishing for trout might be a good place to start. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Your gear will be the first thing to consider. This includes your rod, line, and reel. A lot of beginners make the mistake of using gears that are completely inappropriate. Where rod and reel are concerned, ultralight action is highly favored. It is better to start with a 5 – 6 foot rod. Ultralight rods are distinguishable by a UL mark on it and they are also thinner.

It is imperative to match the reel with the rod. Another common mistake is using a reel that is too heavy. Do know that trouts have excellent eyesight and they will be able to detect a reel that’s too heavy.

Baits should be presented in a natural manner. Fishes will be able to know if something’s amiss. Do not make the mistake of simply balling your bait and throwing it in the water. Make sure that the hooks you use will allow you to present your bait in it’s most natural state.

Lastly, look for an appropriate boat to use, It is wise for beginners to begin with a boat that are pre owned. Besides the advantage of a lower price, a used boat usually will have gears thrown in by previous owners like dock lines, life jackets, a radio, spare props, safety equipment and other practical additions. It will cost a lot if you buy all of these brand new.

Fishing can be an entirely new experience for those looking to start a relaxing weekend endeavor, but if you know where and how to start, it can be a very rewarding and worthwhile experience.

Bring The Vacation Home!

July 24th, 2009
by Barb Roehler

If you happen to ask any of your friends about their choice of dream vacations, there is an even Steven chance that they might answer, “sipping a sangria, hot Jamaican sand beneath my feet” They are not alone in this wishful thinking. A large majority of us workaholics dream of a time when we can live the life of a beach dweller, living in a beach house looking out upon the ocean of our dreams.

However, until you manage to fulfill your ambitions and dreams of retiring to the south of France at the age of 50, you will have to make do with beach decor which brings back the nostalgic memory of your days in the sun, making sand castles and jumping on them, splashing everybody around you with water, and endearing yourself in many other such noisy ways to all the other holidaymakers.

That can be done by finding places where you can buy beach themed items to decorate your home with, which take you back to the sun and the sand, the beach and the seagulls, the midges and the sand flies.

You are also definitely not going to be disappointed if you are a confirmed addict to every form of sailing or boating. It does not matter if you happen to be a weekend sailor or are fortunate enough to live your life upon the sea. The different nautical or beach home decor products pertaining to the sea, ships, boats, beaches, marine life, and every other aspect of a tropical vacation can be found easily on the internet if you are looking for them.

Many of these themed products are hand crafted and also are exactly what you wanted, or to give as gifts – to other people who love the sun, sand, sailing, and slumbering by the side of the sea, as much as you do.

So what are you waiting for? Come back to memories of sun in your hair, the wind on your face, the sand beneath your feet, and possibly any other beautiful memories of a holiday in the sun, by choosing some beach or nautical dcor to place around your home – items like candles, accent pillows, rugs and bedding may do the trick.

Placing brightly colored painted outdoor wooden furniture on the patio or deck so you can relax while sipping a cocktail outside would be another idea. Throw in some themed party favors and invite the neighbors over and you could have your own beach party right in your own backyard!

How Was The Sea-Doo Watercraft Invented?

July 10th, 2009
by John A Moore

I was looking around for some information on Seadoo pwc covers and came across some really interesting information on the history of Seadoos and personal watercraft in general. I am a bit of a history buff so I put off the seadoo cover search and gobbled up a little history lesson.

I have to admit that I’m definitely part of the older crowd now, so you would think I already know when these water machines were created. I didn’t have the money back then to even consider buying one, so in fact I didn’t pay close attention to them at the time. I had always thought that pwcs came out in the 80’s, but little did I know that was only the refinement – digging a little deeper gave me a much better picture of the early evolution.

It was actually in the mid 1960’s that the Canadian family who invented the ski-doo snowmobiles (the Bombardier family) started to think of a snowmobile type water vehicle for getting around their lake in Quebec, Canada. After starting some design ideas they ran into some difficulties, at which point they found an inventor from the US by the name of Jacobsen who was already designing a similar vehicle.

Jacobsens inspiration for his watercraft was the motorcycle – his concept was to travel on water just like you would on a dirt bike. So Bombardier and Jacobsen started working together on Bombardiers idea. Jacobsen came up with the first seadoo, which Bombardier purchased the rights for. Then Bombardier promptly painted it the recognizable yellow and black just like the bombardier snowmobiles. These seadoos were sold in 1968 and 1969.

The Bombardier Seadoos of 1968 and 1969 had some problems. Engine technology was a big limiting factor in the lack of success of the early Seadoos. The first engine was air cooled and the later engine was liquid cooled. Both engines had drawbacks. Corrosion was also a huge problem. the salt water literally ate away at the machines. Jacobsen’s idea about using rubber and plastic were carelessly not embraced by the Bombardier family.

After a few false starts the Bombardier family moth balled the idea of the modern day Seadoo for the next 20 years. Jacobsen bought the rights to his ideas and joined forces with Kawasaki. While at Kawasaki, Jacobsen developed the first Jet-Ski. The history of Seadoo pwc is colorful and interesting.

The History of Toronto Island

April 9th, 2009
by A Nutt

Toronto Island is a great spot to stop as part of a Toronto vacation; the entire harbor and waterfront are loaded with fun and fulfilling things to take part in. The city of Toronto is jam packed with amazing attractions including the Toronto Zoo, the CN Tower, the Ontario Science Centre, etc., etc. If you’ve never had the pleasure of a Toronto vacation, the trip is certainly worth it just to explore the history of Toronto Island.

Starting at the ‘beginning’ One of the most interesting bits of history in relation to Toronto Island is also, coincidently, one of the oldest. The Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, built around 1805, is the longest free standing structure of any kind on the island. It’s no longer used for its intended purpose, but it did serve to provide guidance for vessels for more than one hundred and fifty years. The interesting story here doesn’t have anything to do with providing light – it has to do with ghosts.

In 1815, the lighthouse keeper was found dead of a presumed murder and it’s been since rumored that the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse remains his haunting grounds.

Sports History Hanlan’s Point Stadium was built on Toronto Island in 1897 to be the home for the Toronto Maple Leaf professional baseball team. The stadium itself was rebuilt on a few occasions over the years and no longer stands today, but in 1914 it was the sight of what would have been one of baseballs most valuable and sought after artifacts. Before all of the hype and hoopla, before the famous nicknames and before he became known as the greatest player to ever take the field, Babe Ruth hit his first professional home run out of Hanlan’s Point Stadium and into the Harbor. Though the artifact was never recovered (presumably), a local bar displays ‘the ball’ for fans to take a gander at while they enjoy a drink.

The true intention of the original colonization of the island was for a ’summer getaway’ for Toronto residents. Large Victorian style vacation homes were built on the island, and then an elaborate amusement park was erected for entertainment, followed by the sport’s stadium, an airport and the Royal Yacht Club.

The Island today has a more permanent residential section that includes a church and two public schools, but the overall feel of the island remains predominantly as a getaway from the everyday. In 1967 a turn of the century themed amusement park for children was built, recreational boating continues to be extremely popular among residents and visitors to the island who can choose between several boat and yacht clubs. There are also a number of beaches for residents and tourists to swim, play and relax – and for the more daring among the vacationing crowd, there are clothing optional beaches available as well.

Another interesting note about the small group of islands around Toronto Harbor is that collectively they make up the biggest ‘car free’ community throughout North America. All of the roadways are paved, but motor vehicle use is restricted to only service vehicles – if you are on one of the islands and in need of some form of transportation other than your feet there are several locations throughout the island where bicycles, Toronto dinner cruises and other modalities of self propelled transportation can be rented.

If you’re planning a vacation to Toronto, your trip could easily be overfilled by all of the amazing attractions on the mainland, but you’d really be selling yourself short if you didn’t stop by and drink in some of the incredible history that Toronto Island has to offer.

Planning your Wedding on a Boat, Pros and Cons

April 9th, 2009
by A Nutt

Your wedding day should be one of the most special and most memorable days of your life, so if you feel that you need to step outside of tradition in order to make the experience all that it can possibly be – then you should go for it, but be prepared for the possibility of facing some adversity if you opt to go for something that isn’t wholly traditional.

One particular wedding location that’s increasing in popularity is aboard a boat. Having your wedding aboard a boat can be an incredible experience, the beauty of the open water coupled with gourmet food and entertainment out in the sun with a cool sea breeze is an occasion that neither you nor your guests will ever forget.

Pros of having your wedding aboard a luxury cruise ship. By having your wedding on a ship, you can combine your wedding and honeymoon allowing you to immediately begin the vacation celebration as soon as the wedding is through. You’ll eliminate the need for dual planning – once the initial decision is made and the guest list is submitted, the crew aboard the cruise ship will take care of everything else

What comes as a surprise to most people is that having your wedding in this fashion can actually save you some money. By booking the wedding and honeymoon together you’ll get a better deal than you would have by booking them separately and since your wedding will be aboard a dinner cruises harbour, it’s likely that your guest list will be substantially shorter.

As far as planning and preparation go, you’ll have far less to do with planning your wedding aboard a boat which can eliminate the majority of stress and many of the headaches that are commonly associated with the usually monumental task of the planning.

The cons associated with having a wedding aboard a boat. Though the pros of having a boat-bound wedding are undeniably good, the potential cons can far outweigh them. You have to be prepared for whatever the open sea might throw at you, be it rain, sleet or violent storms – the sea is unpredictable and just like planning any type of party, you have to be willing to play whatever hand the weather deals you.

Sea sickness is another big potential downside to having a wedding aboard a boat. Even though the conditions of the water may be reasonably calm some or several of your guests or wedding party may succumb to the woes of sea sickness at some point during the venture – and that point may or may not occur directly in the middle of your ceremony.

If the water is rough for the entire time that you are on it sea sickness and misery could abound through your entire voyage, which will still certainly make your wedding celebration memorable, but probably not in the way you would have liked.

Planning a wedding in any location that can have unpredictable circumstances is always a gamble; it’s up to you and your mate to decide how much you’re willing to gamble on the day of your celebration. If it’s of the utmost importance to the two of you to hold your day outside on the open water, then by all means take the risk and hope for the best, but if the worst case scenario is too much for you to bare dealing with on what is supposed to be the most wonderful day of your life, you may want to have second thoughts about planning your wedding on a boat.

Keep in mind, once you get out there, there will be no turning back – you can’t magically move the boat inside if the weather turns sour, that should be your biggest concern when considering an unconventional location for a wedding.

Underwater Welding Alternatives you Should Know

April 7th, 2009
by Al Dashuman

If you need to make permanent repairs underwater in any industry, underwater welding is probably a concern. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in oil and gas, shipping, defense, or marine infrastructure. You need to make sure all your underwater components are stable and functional.

Underwater welding is a key component of metal structure maintenance if that structure is entirely or partially underwater. Unfortunately, most ordinary underwater welding systems have plenty of problems. They’re costly, provide temporary repairs only, hard to move around, or even dangerous.

Dry underwater welding systems, such as the Neptune System, have a number of advantages over ordinary wet underwater welding. They allow workers to create dry welds of high quality, without the construction of time and money consuming hyperbaric chambers.

Oil and gas operators will be particularly pleased by the time and cost savings that this sort of underwater welding offers. As platforms and infrastructure age, the demand for appropriate inspection, repair, and maintenance services will increase. That means that an easy, fast, comparatively inexpensive underwater welding solution is important.

Subsea pipelines, platforms, oil rigs, and any other underwater structure made of metal can benefit from a high quality underwater welding solution. Customized habitats can be created and configured to work with just about any situation where you might need an underwater weld.

Owners and operators of ships will also be happy about the savings possible with portable dry underwater welding methods. These methods can keep them from needing to dry dock vessels early. These dry welds cost around the same as it would to create a wet weld, but they’re a lot stronger, allowing a high quality repair without premature dry docking.

The biggest problem with wet underwater welding is that it produces a quick fix. While these welds can be cheaply and quickly made, it’s necessary to continually rework the weld, causing it to cost a lot over time. The weld must be frequently inspected, too.

Eventually, a temporary wet weld must be removed, and the vessel dry docked for correct repair. This is because a wet weld cannot maintain the original hull strength and integrity. Unfortunately, dry docking is very expensive, and it means that your operation may be delayed considerably.

Using a technology like Neptune’s NEPSYS dry welding system lets you maintain your ship in the water and still get a permanent repair. It’s possible to fix tears, holes, pitting, cracks and corrosion, and you can even insert plates completely into the hull with full penetration.

This technology can be deployed fast and is very portable, making it appropriate for any military operation requiring permanent underwater repairs, as well as in marine infrastructures. In fact, in every subsea industry where repairs may be required, dry underwater welding is important.

If wet underwater welding has previously been your only option for below water repairs, consider a portable, affordable dry welding option. Just about any underwater repair application can benefit from this technology, from pipelines to ship hulls.

The History of Cruises in Toronto Harbor

March 13th, 2009
by A Nutt

The city of Toronto, the harbor itself and Toronto Island are all loaded with fascinating stories of a colorful history. From a Cruises in Toronto Harbour you can drink in the majesty of the history on your own, creating a bit of history for yourself , or you can opt to take the ferry on the harbor and hear of the city’s illustrious past on an historical tour.

Choosing any of the magical themed cruises or romantic dinner cruises that float the harbor on a nightly basis is a great way to spend an evening or a part of your vacation, but if your stay is longer than just one evening it’s definitely a worth while experience to drink in some of the city’s history.

An historic tour of the Toronto Harbor will help you to learn many of the interesting facts that make Toronto one of the most fascinating places to visit.

You’ll get to see the Gibraltar Point Lighthouse, one of the city’s oldest and most famous attractions. Though the lighthouse is no longer in active use as a sailor’s guide, the structure erected in 1808 helped ships into port for more than a century and a half. Many of the locals believe that the Gibraltar Point lighthouse is haunted, and depending on whom your guided tour may be led by; there are chances that you may come away with more than a few ghost stories.

Another big part of the history lesson that you’ll most likely get to hear has to do with the city of Toronto’s role in the American prohibition. During the time that the sale and consumption of alcohol was illegal in the United Sates and speakeasies were the only places for a hardworking American to get a drink, the city of Toronto’s capitalistic side came to the forefront. Americans could take an inexpensive ferry ride from Rochester, New York and visit the casino built on Toronto Island which had alcoholic beverages to spare. Americans could take the short boat ride and easily fulfill all of the desires they had to do with alcohol, and then safely be ferried back to the states when they’d had their fill.

You may also be regaled with the history of the sporting world as it occurred in the city of Toronto. There are rumors that, before Babe Ruth was considered to be the greatest home run hitter to have ever stepped on a baseball diamond, that he hit a monstrous home run out of Hanlan’s Point Stadium on Toronto Island and into the harbor. Though the ball, or the remains of it, probably still sits far beneath the surface of the water, a local bar proudly displays the Babe Ruth Home Run ball as an attraction for sports fans and patrons to see.

The city of Toronto has a very colorful history the facts, stories and details of which can absolutely captivate. A walking tour of the city can show a visitor much of what the city has to offer, but to truly get a sense of the history of Toronto you need to experience the waterfront and the harbor. You can schedule an historic boat tour with one of the many major cruise lines, or get an impromptu history lesson from a more colorful guide on the ferry , or you can choose to hear about Toronto’s history in both ways. Whether your interest is sports history, old ghost stories or the birth of Canadian capitalism, one thing is for sure, a look back into the wild wonderment that built the beautiful city of Toronto is something that any visitor to the captivating city will enjoy
