Home Design With A Round Area Rug

March 18th, 2010

Round rugs are the best solution if you do not know what type of rug to go with. You want to avoid wasting money on rugs that are too big, too small, or if they are the wrong shape. It doesn’t matter if you buy a Persian rug or a plain pastel rug, a round rug is the perfect instant addition to any room.

The quality and appearance of area rugs is predominantly determined by the type of material. Natural fibers and synthetic are your main choices. Natural fiber rugs are more environmentally friendly but synthetic fibers are stronger. It just depends what you want to get out of your rug.

If you want a rug that offers a wide variety of colors and won’t fade or stain then you may want to purchase an acrylic rug. One of the most popular rugs is the polypropylene area rugs. These rugs are not only durable but they are stain resistant as well. These rugs are also round. The nylon rugs are a not a comfortable rug but they are very durable and easy to maintain. These rugs are great in the kitchen and the bathroom. Wool area rugs are the best rugs. Wool rugs have a natural air filter material that is very soft. Cotton area rugs are even softer than the wool rugs. Cotton rugs don’t last that long. Jute area rugs are soft rugs but they can fade easily when they are left in direct sunlight and they are very sensitive to moisture. Sisal area rugs are great for everyday wear. Jute, sea grass, and bamboo are good choices as far as material is concerned. But they are best used in areas without a lot of traffic.

A round area rug is by far the best choice for any room. The design of the rug is also important. When you have a round rug in the bath, slide it close to the tub for a drying mat as well as a bathroom rug. A square rug or rectangle rug can fold on you but it won’t fold with a round rug. Water can damage the natural fibers found in wool so keep this in mind when buying a rug and opt for a synthetic rug.

People sometimes use an area rug for padding on their furniture. This is a waste of a good rug. Instead place the rug on the floor in the middle of the room and let the kids play with their toys.

Remember that a round area rug should compliment the design of the room. Your goal should be a well designed round area rug that compliments the look that is in the room. When it comes to colors you need a rug that is neutral in color such as black or beige. If you don’t have a certain look in your room yet then buy a red area rug and create the room around the rug.

Rug decorating just got even simpler with these round floor rugs.

How To Use An Area Rug

October 24th, 2009

An area rug may be a teeny-weeny vision in a room, especially one that is considered big and grand. But did you know that this teeny-weeny piece of decorating material can actually be the central element in transforming any room?

Before we discuss further, ask yourself if you already have a theme or design in mind for a particular room. What colors do you want to use? What items do you want to incorporate? Once you’ve answered these main questions, it’s time to shop for that perfect rug, that one thing which will become the centerpiece of your room. Given this objective, it’s a good idea to choose rugs that can live up to the standard of being the room’s focal point. These are Persian, Oriental and Transitional rugs. The last kind is named as such because of its ability to mix various colors and elements in just one creation. Simply put, this is a multi-faceted, flexible material.

Whatever you choose, you are assured that each of these types can attract anyone’s attention, even yours whenever you enter that room. You might be familiar with the designs of a Persian or Oriental rug and have noticed that a common element is a central medallion typically in bold, loud colors. This of course always easily becomes the room’s focal object.

Your rug as a focal point is also the basis of other decors. They should match it in color or at least have a neutral tone but also doesn’t necessarily mean boring. Things like a chair, an ottoman or even a beanbag can be in neutral tones but made more interesting with nice patterns or texture that also fits the rest of the room. Combination is good particularly in bringing together opposite textures such as dull and bright, soft and hard.

And in addition to normal furnishings, you can also consider traditional works of art to adorn your walls. The great thing about art is that it need only share certain elements of the general design of the room and can be transitional elements themselves. Think about some timeless favorites such as black & white photographs or, for those rooms where the colors are bright and bold, prints from some of the great masters such as Monet, John Williams Waterhouse, etc.

Once you are happy with all the furniture and art, another thing that will have to be paid attention to is the lighting. Does the room get plenty of natural sunlight? What kind of lighting does the room have at night? Having a couple of spotlights focused on key items could enhance the ambience of a place and supply it with a smoldering warm look.

No, we’re not yet finished with rugs. Last one, utilize more area rugs for specific places within the room. It can be the couch or even in the artworks area. As long as they match the over-all look of the room, the sky is the limit. Just don’t use more than one big-sized rug. Small ones accentuate but big ones split the room. I would guess you prefer a harmonious ambiance and not otherwise.

If you found this information about decorating with rugs helpful, then you will adore these round rugs on sale.

Before you just up and quit your present job however, I’d advise you to think about it very carefully. Remember that although the market in interior design jobs is there ripe for the plucking, most interior design jobs are for the self-employed and you will have to bid for each job, so if you do decide to join the bandwagon, you might not actually get any jobs straight off.

If this doesn’t sound quite so appealing to you now, you could always just keep doing your old job and continue with any interior design jobs that you win at the same time until you feel comfortable enough to choose between the two. An added plus with either of these options is that they can be accomplished with ease and shouldn’t present you with any problems.

Taking any of these courses will only enhance your natural abilities and bring to the fore any talent you have in the field of interior designing. This in turn makes it simpler for you to go in for more interior design jobs by giving you a boost up the ladder so you’re more prepared to face whatever comes your way.

Home Improvement On A Budget

September 2nd, 2009

Home improvement is one area where you may or may not get your money back when you sell your home. Many times what one homeowner sees as home improvement is only something the next homeowner may have to undo in order to help the home meet his own needs.

Persons planning to live in the same home for several years may not have to worry about the trying to recoup the cost of their projects. If the improvement adds to their enjoyment of the home then the cost is simply spread out over time. If you plan to sell your home in the next short while, however, you want to do improvements that will add immediately to the value of your home.

One of the least expensive projects is painting. If you are able to be your own painter, then the project is a very inexpensive way to make a large difference in the appearance of your home. The materials for this project are very inexpensive. There may be some preparatory work that is necessary to prepare for painting. Be sure to protect other surfaces from spills and drips.

Colors of paint should be neutral. Whites or off whites will generally match anyone’s color scheme. If the next homeowner wants another color, cover up of these colors is usually accomplished with only one coat of paint.

If you improvement is flooring, then you will also want to choose something that is long wearing and in a neutral color. Thus, the flooring update becomes an asset to your home rather than a liability.

Some improvements may have little value in the resale of your home but may cause you to be much more comfortable.

Make sure that your home is adequately insulated. This invisible improvement adds greatly to your comfort and lowers your heating and cooling bills. In fact you may be able to recover the cost of insulation simply through these savings in just a few seasons.

Replace drafty windows. These windows allow cold air to enter your home and raise your heating bills. By choosing newer double pane vinyl windows, you will increase the comfort of your home. In addition your home will have the appearance of older wooden windows without the upkeep and painting that they required. These two improvements will save you money in the long run and add to the comfort and enjoyment of your home.

There are many ways to choose to spend your home improvement dollars; these few ways will help you to recover some of those costs.

Interior Design Colleges

August 30th, 2009
by Michael James

Do you have a flair for interior design? Are you always rearranging your room, or telling your friends and family that that piece of pottery they bought yesterday would look great over there? Then, the best place you could be to develop your skills is one of the many interior design colleges or design schools that there are around nowadays.

With a little help and a little gentle encouragement you could find yourself well on the way to founding your own interior designing business. Then you’d be in the place that everyone wants to be: doing a job that they love and enjoy. So, what are these interior design colleges and what can they do for you?

Well, to start with, the number of interior design colleges that you will come across in your search will be large and at times even overwhelming. If you do a search on the Internet or just call up the colleges and ask for a course catalogue you can then make an informed decision about which of the interior design colleges you would like to attend.

If your life is too busy at the moment but you still want to fit in a course or two, you always have the option of going for any of the Internet interior design colleges that seem to abound these days. Or perhaps you could even try a night course or correspondence course in your pursuit of interior design knowledge.

All of these interior design colleges basically teach the same things and will enhance your own abilities. You’ll learn everything from the basics up and will be given an insight as to why certain colours look good next to each other and why certain colours don’t.

You’ll learn when to apply the rules that you’ve been taught and when to break them. But above all, you’ll be taught how to mix your natural design abilities with the knowledge that you’ve garnered at the college and blend it into a mixture that is greatly stunning to the eye.

Moreover, if interior design colleges are your thing then you can be assured of coming away with a lot more than only knowledge on how to place what colour next to what colour to get a stunning effect. By taking at least one or two courses, or even by doing the whole range of courses offered to you, you’ll be multiplying your natural interior design abilities at least a hundred fold.

There’s nothing like having a confidence boost to stave up your own natural skills and to be able to tell someone with total confidence that you are a bona fide interior designer.
