100’s Of Calories Saved Daily From Beverages With Magic Drops: We’re Drinking More Calories Than Ever!

September 30th, 2009
by George Napoli

You may be one of those people that fall for the word magic when put together with anything, like magic pills, magic drops or even magic potions that help you lose weight. As you probably already know by now, there are no magic pills or formulas when it comes to losing weight, yet people earn thousands of dollars promising magic formulas that end up being empty promises.

Dropping pounds isn’t easy for anyone and no matter how hard you search for it, nor will you come upon any magic out there. You just have want to lose the weight and cast a compelling vision of the new you as your primary goals to make it a reality. But here’s the opposite side of the same coin when it comes to weight loss and is fast paced reality or people that open their eyes. Its 1 thing to calories counting normal daily food intake, but then who wants to pay mind to counting daily calories drank from beverages?

Everyone should think about counting calories in beverages and you will too, once you come to learn how many calories a person consumes daily in beverages. What it means weight gain by adding plenty of extra pounds in weight annually, plus inches to your waste line that becomes the true tell tale. Men’s Health Magazine, March 09 ran a short article exactly on this subject titled; were drinking more calories than ever.

Here is what North Carolina Univ. reports stated in that current editorial: 1. the normal person consumes 450 calories in 24 hours 2. that’s a total of 29 lbs yearly we put on 3. the usual fruit juices, sodas, pops and drinks are artificially sweetened or sweetened using high fructose corn syrup, especially for children’s beverages that resemble plain water that is sweetened

Another update on high calorie beverages is from Harvard and they seem to be singing the same sad song to a newer melody. Harvard Medical School prepared a paper on this timely subject. Title: Sugar and Obesity: high calorie drinks to blame. Now its more than 100’s of calories a day that becomes extra pounds annually, plus inches at the end of the day. Now its a matter of good health.

Their editorial brings serious medical conditions from artificial sweeteners, along with calories from sodas, pops, juices and other beverages. Their claim is that women who drank one or more daily beverages with these high fructose sweeteners were 83% more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than women who didn’t. Not surprisingly, they were also more likely to gain weight.

In a nutshell, bottles flavored waters on the market come up short on a few fronts contain high sucrose levels, expensive and inconvenient. Look to more flavored waters with 0 calories and look at the label of the beverages you drink: number servings and calories per serving are your two starting points. Always look for ways to enhance the flavor of tap water without adding calories. That’s your best solution overall.

In closing but not the last word, with so many calories consumed daily and with your good health on the line, keeping a watchful eye on the beverage label just may help you keep your belt in the same notch! Drink more water and look for ways to enhance the flavor of tap water without adding calories. Water is the real magic formula and as far as those magic drops; let’s just call them natural flavoring concentrates with 0 calories for now. They work and maybe you may find the magic in them in your weight loss program.

Why Medication is Not the Answer For Anxiety Panic Attack Symptoms

August 18th, 2009
by Anne Torres

Even if you are healthy, coping with any of the anxiety panic attack symptoms initially could easily be one of the most frightening feelings anyone ever experiences ~ no matter what age, male or female.

Often the experience is enough to bring on the worry of having another panic attack, making the victim try to find any kind of anxiety attack panic treatment. The convenience of medication is often what people choose because it is thought to be more convenient and also because some victims are worried about facing their next panic attack without help. This is why a natural cure for panic attack is usually best.

The first medication usually prescribed to ward off anxiety panic attack symptoms are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) which greatly reduce the frequency of the panic attacks, but it takes several weeks from starting the medication to see any benefits.

Another medicinal option is benzodiazepines which are a lot faster in dropping the panic attack frequency. However, this benefit comes at a cost in that these drugs are well known to give many nasty side effects, and have to be taken throughout the day over a period of a few weeks.

Why then are doctors handing out prescriptions for SSRIs, benzodiazepines and other drugs that are used for anxiety attack panic treatment when they are costly, produce nasty side effects and are generally troublesome? Mainly because many patients regard them as the only answer to their problem ~ basically they are seen as a quick, easy fix.

Patients who have gone through anxiety panic attack symptoms often just need the reassurance that they will not fall over the edge ~ what they need primarily, more than just any anxiety attack panic treatment, is the assurance to get through another day.

Medicinal prescriptions often foster a feeling of dependency and take away the means to build up confidence and the drugs often make the victims think of the medicine as some kind of crutch that they totally rely on and that without the medicine they cannot deal with anxiety panic attack symptoms alone.

This problem is what should really worry both doctors and patients, even more than the nasty side effects. The drugs only provide temporary relief and if used constantly the victim will continue to worry for the rest of their lives that the panic attacks will return.

Another problem with medicinal remedies is that eventually the body will build up a natural tolerance so that with prolonged use the drug will become less effective and it will come as a huge shock to find that one day the crutch that was relied upon is no longer there.

All the reasons that I have outlined must surely confirm that natural cure for panic attacks should be given preference to medication. Obviously natural remedies do not give instant relief but when the benefits do start they will last indefinitely and by following this course patients will learn that they can overcome anxiety panic attack symptoms and regain their confidence alone.

Anyone can overcome the need to eliminate panic attacks without medicine. When patients realize there will be no more panic attacks they lost the fear thus reducing the threat of anxiety panic attack symptoms to nothing other than an awful memory.

4 Arm Fat No No’s

August 17th, 2009
by Katherine Crawford M.S.

Are you confused about proper nutrition for getting rid of flabby arms? Do you get a massive headache when thinking about getting toned arms?

If so, don’t beat yourself up over it. After all, it’s all the marketer’s fault, not yours. They have successfully created a giant tornado of arm fat confusion.

I was once a victim of said confusion.

The good news is that I’ve spent a large portion of my professional career figuring all of this out.

Thus, here are 4 arm toning mistakes that I discovered along the way:

1. Having large amounts of protein. There is a lot of good about protein, but when consumed in excess there is also a lot of bad. Make sure that no more than 30% of calories come from protein.

2. Assuming whole grains are key to arm fat loss. Whole grains are healthier than most processed alternatives. However, whole grains are not optimal for someone that is very sedentary. If you’re just starting out with losing arm fat, then whole grains are ok. But eventually you’ll want to transition into legumes.

3. Considering dietary supplements as being completely safe. If only the supplement industry were regulated, but it’s not. So until the government steps up and oversees the supplement manufacturing process, be very critical of what you put into your body.

4. Letting more than 5 hours go by between feedings. For maximum arm toning you want to eat every 3 hours. And to prevent any negatives make sure you never let more than 5 hours go by between meals. Why? Because your metabolism will sink.

Steering clear of the above arm fat no no’s will make the process of getting toned arms that much easier. So make sure to take action on this advice now and not later. Because later usually never comes! And don’t forget to view all the marketing hype with a critical eye. Only then will you be able to get lean and sexy arms once and for all!

Yoga In Helping In Maintaining Mental Health

August 15th, 2009
by Rita Goldman

Negative mental health has an impact on all our lives, it increases anxiety levels, maximizes our fears, leaves us more open to pain and makes us feel inferior. All negative emotions take root from the matter present in the subconscious; we do not have a negative attitude in our consciousness according to the principals of yoga.

We are all attached to physical things, people, certain emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. Because of these attachments we want certain outcomes or have a certain level of expectations. We experience conflict because we cannot reconcile what we think what we want and what our subconscious mind want. The aims of the psycho dynamic, psychological mental health and yoga are not very different they want to reconcile with desires and fears of the psyche with our conscious mind. Only through synchronization of the two minds can we begin to find an inner peace.

Our brain cannot cope well with turmoil, our ego becomes confused by conflict and lifes constant frustrations and because the conscious mind cannot cope, it shoves all the painful parts of our personality into our subconscious. There it does not have to deal with them it is hidden from us and it is a type of defense mechanism, it stops us shutting down altogether. Unfortunately these repressed desires, hopes, conflicts etc are not removed or dealt with they can still cause havoc in our lives.

Every action has a momentum according to yoga principals. Once a momentum is done a seed of that momentum to memory is deposited in the subconscious, in yoga they are Samskaras and they are known as archetypes in psychology. Because the mind does not want to dwell on all the things that have gone wrong, the disappointments the failures it buries them in the subconscious which is a swirling mass of dark negative thoughts.

According to the Freudian school of psychology, our fears come out in our dreams and we need to consult a trained psychoanalyst to interpret our dreams so that we can reconcile the psyche and become mentally whole. Yoga has what is referred to as ‘antar mouna’ or inner silence which also releases the repressed negative thoughts through meditation. The difference is that through yoga you can act as your own healer, you have to be fully conscious to reconcile the differences. This is different from Freud who believed that no individual person not trained as a psychoanalyst could heal themselves.

According to Swami Satyananda, when a thought comes into your mind, you do not have to take that thought up; you can be a silent witness to it. If you become involved with that thought then once again it stirs up desires and conflicts, but you can choose to ignore the thought. You are taught to be conscious of your unconscious mind when you are conscious by focusing in it through meditation. Your psyche is the basis of all your dreams, your hopes and your deepest most repressed desires, by becoming in tune with it and knowing what it wants, you can achieve a sense of inner tranquility that will have a profound effect on your life because you have detached yourself from the ego, you can observe it dispassionately without getting embroiled in the conflict.

Yoga has the power in helping to prevent and cure. First of all, it restricts the amount of thoughts that get repressed into our subconscious. Because the ego is detached, it cannot feel insecure, and the mind has less need to repress guilt and negative emotions, because they have not arisen in the first place. As there is not a constant trickle of negative thoughts down to the subconscious you do not have to deal with them. You can examine your ego without the attachments that normally occur. You can let them go and as the old thoughts that have held you back are rejected the mind becomes a blank canvas that can foster positive thoughts.

Women Fitness Tips – How To Achieve Flat Abdominals

August 14th, 2009
by Chris Tan

What is your first thought regarding flat abs and weight loss? If you said diet pills and crunches, you are definitely gonna want to read this article. There are several companies that offer women fat blocking and weight loss pills; however, the weight you may lose with these methods is usually only water.

To achieve 6 pack abdominals, you have to realize that it takes more than secret pills and crunches. You will need to know the top exercises for your abs, cardio exercises that help burn fat most effectively and diets that help you keep the fats off.

Top exercises for abdominals

Most people believe the traditional crunch is the best ab flattening exercise; however this could not be further from the truth. These exercises are not as effective as once thought. Instead, try bicycle crunches, captain leg raise, reverse crunches, exercise ball crunches, vertical leg crunches and the ab rocker exercises. As you can see, the standard crunch is nowhere on this list.

Cardio exercises that help you burn fat

Next; you will need to learn how to perform cardio exercises that help you to keep the fat off. If you are thinking of long distant runs, you are wrong again. Long distant runs are not the best way to lose fat. When it comes to exercise, intensity is the key. By doing short sprint sets, you will be enjoying better fat loss benefits from a higher intensity workout. Other high intensity cardio exercises include skipping and stair climbing.

Diets low in fat

Your diet plays a major role in the successful achievement of six pack abs. The key to a low fat diet is to eliminate sugar and increase fiber and nutrition. Additional aids include whole meals and a daily multivitamin. If you keep your diet low in fat, those six pack abs will be yours.

These three elements are key in achieving your goal of six pack abs. A great cardio workout combined with the proper ab exercises and a nutritious diet that is low in fat is the perfect routine for getting those tight, sexy abdominals you’ve been dreaming of.

The Latest Laser Acne Treatments

August 13th, 2009
by Amy Nutt

It may sound like something out of a science fiction novel, but in the world of modern medicine laser surgery is becoming a popular and powerful choice for dealing with a number of different medical conditions. Some of the most cutting edge uses of lasers and focused light are for the Laser Acne Treatment. Lasers can be used to burn off the outer layers of skin where acne is, or they can penetrate below the surface of the skin and deal with the underlying causes of acne.

The only real disadvantage to laser acne treatments is that they can be difficult to get and difficult to afford. They’re often only used for people with severe acne problems -you’ll have to ask a doctor or dermatologist if laser acne treatment would be a good option for you. Also, laser acne treatments are generally considered to be cosmetic procedures, so many insurance companies won’t cover them. This can make it difficult for most people to afford having it done.

For those who do have access to laser acne treatments, there are a few different options to choose from. Some laser treatments target glands under the skin called the sebaceous glands. These glands are responsible for secreting the oil that can cause acne. The laser targets them and actually damages them, which makes them produce less oil.

Other types of laser treatments target the bacteria that cause acne inflammation, referred to in the medical community as Propionibacterium acens, or P. acnes. This type of laser treatment can also help to smooth out the skin’s overall texture and repair acne scars. It is a powerful combined approach that can really change the way a person looks.

To get more specific, there are different types of lasers that are used in these different procedures. Each laser uses a different approach to do its job. The first type of laser is called the blue light laser. One of the advantages of this treatment is that it’s painless, but it must be done over the course of multiple sessions. Unfortunately, acne tends to spread rapidly so these treatments must be undergone regularly to keep it at bay. There is a new version of blue light therapy on the horizon that combines blue and red lights, and it may be even more effective than blue light alone.

The second type of laser treatment works through pulsed green-yellow lights combined with heat energy. The combination of these two factors help shrink the sebaceous glands, thus making them produce less oil. This type of treatment can be used to treat moderate acne outbreaks, but more severe outbreaks may be out of its reach. The only known side effect of this treatment is that it causes the affected areas to be reddened for a brief time.

The last type of laser used in acne laser treatments is the diode laser. These lasers pierce the outer layer of skin and destroy sebaceous glands without damaging the outermost skin layers. This treatment, unlike the others, can be quite painful. However, doctors generally provide some sort of painkiller to dull the pain during treatment. Like the pulsed light treatment, the diode laser can cause redness and also swelling. However, it provides some of the best acne reduction after a couple of treatments.

Sensitive Skin Care Routine

August 13th, 2009
by Amy Nutt

Sensitive skin can be a very annoying condition to have to live with. Even the smallest things can lead to severe irritation of the skin. Even basic skin care products like moisturizers cause a severe sting and can leave behind nasty rashes. Shaving or otherwise removing is pretty much impossible without causing major side effects. Even just being outdoors at the wrong time or without the proper protection can lead to severe problems. People suffering form sensitive skin must come up with an effective routine to ensure that their skin stays healthy.

The first step in building a good sensitive skin care routine is to switch out the products that you use. There are various soaps and other skin care products that are formulated specially for people with sensitive skin. The fewer ingredients that a product has the better it will be for sensitive skin. If there are few ingredients, then theres a lower chance of harsh chemicals that will inflame the skin. Soaps and other products that are fragrant or have deodorizing properties will often cause irritation.

If you check the labels of the products you buy, you may see some that specifically state that they are for sensitive skin. These products are usually a good bet, but you should check the ingredient label as well just to be sure.

If you use makeup and have sensitive skin, you must also take precautions. Using any sort waterproof cosmetics is bad because theyll require a solvent that will be harsh on your skin to remove. Also, earth-toned make up, especially eye shadow, is generally less irritating to sensitive skin than bright colored make up. The less ingredients rule also applies here. You may want to try using mineral makeup products as these do not contain ingredients that may irritate your skin.

Its important for those with sensitive skin to regularly use moisturizers. Sensitive skin is naturally vulnerable to abrasion; a good moisturizer provides a safeguard against that. There are many natural moisturizers designed with sensitive skin in mind. Remember to stay away from moisturizers with a strong fragrance or a lot of strange ingredients.

If you can find a moisturizer with natural exfoliating properties, that can also be beneficial for people with sensitive skin. Just be sure to avoid products that exfoliate via small grains in the product.

If you have sensitive skin, then you want to completely avoid using toners in your skin care regimen. For the most part, toner can simply be replaced by the liberal use of water. Since the actual value of toner is somewhat debated in general skin care, theres no reason to risk using it if you have sensitive skin. The detriments far outweigh the benefits.

Theres another part of a sensitive skin care routine that actually has nothing to do with what you put on your skin. It is believed that a lack of certain B-complex vitamins, including B-6, B-12, niacin and riboflavin can cause sensitive skin. Eating more foods such as whole grains, fish, eggs, and low-fat dairy products can help boost your B-complex levels and help relieve sensitive skin. Try adding some more of those foods to your diet and see if you get any relief.

Acne Myths……Fact Or Fiction?

August 12th, 2009
by Barry Crewse

Time has come to clear some of the rubble surrounding the cause and cure of acne. You see, misinformation will only lead you down the path of frustration and discouragement. You will never receive the radiant skin you so desire based on hearsay and snake oil. Misinformation is everywhere. I shudder at some of the things I read online or even hear within my own peer groups. Maybe you have heard and read about them to so keep reading and lets get to the bottom of it all. Remember, knowledge is power and power will help you end the breakouts!

1. The Old Soap And Water Theory

Back when I was a kid I can’t tell you how many times I heard that one. I was convinced that if you just scrubbed your skin off…viola! A great complexion. Truth is acne only gets worse the more you scrub. It does eliminate dirt and bacteria…..and that is important but in the end it only lead to dry, cracked, irritated skin that will open you up to infection and a worse crop of acne.

Remember, over production of sebum is the main culprit behind the zit problem. It is essential that you keep your skin clean and dry as this will help you in your battle over acne. Always try and wash your face twice daily and pat dry with a soft towel. Be aware of the soap you are using. The skin on your face is very sensitive and even a mild reaction to harsh cleansers will have a negative effect. If you are looking for products that are gentle on your skin I will be posting a review and recommendation page shortly. I will explore all types of products, treatments, and remedies. My reviews will remain completely unbiased and non sponsored. I will be spilling the beans on whether my research reveals as to their effectiveness. Come back often or better yet subscribe to my RSS feed. See how all those products you see advertised hold up under scrutiny.

2. Chocolate Gives Me Pimples!

Again, I have head this one for as long as I can remember. Coca Cola, most fried foods and pizza fall into this one as well.

First off, we are all genetically different. What affects one will not affect another. Chocolate happens to be very high in fat and sugar. Some people will attribute that to acne. At this point in time there are absolutely no studies that point to food as a cause of acne. NONE except this one exception and that is milk. Particularly low fat milk and mainly in pregnant or menopausal women. Most researchers agree that hormones and other additives in cows milk may be the main cause. Studies are ongoing as of this writing. Could chocolate be a link in a chain that causes acne in some people. Maybe. I think it has more to do with genetics and don’t go and confuse food allergies to acne. Minor allergic reactions can mimic the symptoms of acne. There have been some indigenous cultures in times past who have never had a case of acne across their entire population line. Did diet play a role? Studies have been inconclusive thus far and I can tell you that the Hershey bar in my pantry will not survive the night!

3. Popping Pimples Makes Them Go Away Faster

This myth present a couple of problems. First popping the zit will get rid of the pus, relieve the pressure and swelling and make the zit appear smaller. Something we all want right? Remember the finger and bacteria thing I mentioned earlier? Second, most people apply way to much pressure. They squeeze and pinch until they make their face bleed. All they have accomplished is more tissue damage and help spread the infection all over their face. If you can use a sterile needle and disinfecting wipes you will usually heal faster. Not doing it this way will only make it worse. The bad news is that most people do not do it the right way so health care professional try and discourage treating acne in this fashion.

4. Tanning Helps Clear My Skin

The fact is that the sun in very harsh on your skin especially if you are over exposed. The sun can cause premature aging, skin cancer and a host of other problems. It can actually lead to increased outbreaks of acne. Always try to use what is called nonacnegenic SPF sunscreen before venturing into the sun for prolonged periods of time. More on nonacnegenic’s will be posted on my products page.

5. Makeup Will Give You Acne

Long ago there may have been a bit of truth to this. I suspect it was more an irritant than a cause though. Today there are tons of nonacnegenic makeup on the market that are designed to be kind and gentle to your face. Using them properly should prevent any kind of acne problem. Some brands even contain popular over the counter ingredients used to fight acne and also serve to conceal your acne as well. If you suffer from moderate to severe acne you should consult with your health care professional about the use of makeup until you achieve some level of suppression. Generally speaking, makeup does not in any way cause acne.

6. More Medication Means Quicker Healing

Nothing could be further from the truth. Acne medications use powerful drying agents. Overuse of these medications will result in dry irritated skin. That will result in a worse case of acne. Be especially careful if you are taking oral medications. That could be dangerous! It can take a couple of months before you see results taking oral medications so have patience. If your topical medication is not working to your satisfaction try something else. There are lots of alternatives. Something will work for you. One more thing. Do not stop taking your prescribed mediation early because you think your acne is gone. This could lead to a recurrence that may be worse in the long run.

7. Sex Causes Acne

Don’t believe It. This myth can be traced all the way back to the 1700’s. It was spread about to try and discourage teenagers from hooking up. Can you imagine how many innocent teens were persecuted for having a raging case of acne back then! Although it is true that hormones play a prominent role in acne it has absolutely nothing to do with sexual activity.

Well, there you have it. The acne Myth Busters. I hope I have answered some of your questions and have given you information that will help you in your quest for beautiful skin.
