Why Wheat Grass is Becoming More Popular in the Quest for Health

September 17th, 2009

Wheat grass is one of many varieties of grass which is grown in fields like rye, barley and oats. The type that is used to make juice is not grown outdoors but inside on special trays. The dehydrated form of the grass, which is dehydrated for around sixty days is used to manufacture supplements. The juice manufactured from fresh wheat grass is frequently mixed with sprouted wheat berries to produce a drink rich in chlorophyll.

This juice is known to cleanse the body and also to neutralize many of the toxins in our body along with slowing down the process of ageing and at the same time is believed to help prevent cancer. A lot of people are aware of the benefits of these juices after watching those TV adverts for the Jack Lalanne juicer machine which extol the virtue of fresh juices.

The juice from wheat grass has been shown to benefit a number of medical conditions, as shown by studies performed by medical professionals. Like the plant aloe vera, the herbal form, is often used as a medicine and is known to possess some healing properties. If you have ever noticed, many cats and dogs will often eat grass when they feel unwell or sick. When food sits in our gastrointestinal tract it produces toxins which get absorbed into the bloodstream. Wheat grass is believed to neutralize these toxins which consequently benefits the health. Wheat grass contains lots of enzymes which have the power to detoxify and neutralize many of the toxins and additives found in the diet.

The life blood of plants is chlorophyll which makes the plants a green color. The chlorophyll and enzymes in the wheat grass can be destroyed by cooking. It is, therefore, advisable not to do this but to consume it in its fresh form. An interesting point is that many grass eating animals rarely get cancer, which could be due to them consuming chlorophyll in the fresh form. Chlorophyll does not detoxify the body itself but has certain enzymes present in it that do have the power to detoxify.

A lot of people who have purchased a Jack Lalanne Juicer understand all too well the health benefits of juicing. The addition of wheat grass to the fruit juice can provide a very refreshing and healthy drink. They can be a significant boost to your health as they are packed full of all the essential minerals and vitamins that the body needs.

The cleansing effect that these juices have on the body have been known by many people for lots of years. Due to these cleansing properties many doctors have been known to advise drinking them when not feeling well. Weight for weight, wheat grass contains more protein than eggs, fish and beans and more iron than spinach. This is a relatively little known but surprising fact.

A lot of people are discovering the health benefits and wheat grass could should be considered a superfood. Experience the wonders of this grass and try adding it to your daily diet.

How Juice Fasting Can Detoxify the Body

August 9th, 2009
by Jay Collins

Detoxifying by juice fasting is gaining in popularity as more and more people are looking to get rid of the toxins in the body. A lot of people want to get rid of these toxins to make them feel generally better. These toxins can accumulate in the body causing you to feel tired and sluggish and they can also affect the immune system. Better health and the sensation of more energy is often reported by people who cleanse by juice fasting. It is also a good way to detox as fruit is readily available and relatively cheap.

For a beginner to fruit juice fasting, it is very wise to initially start out slowly and to try it out for just one day. By juice fasting, you will be limiting your intake to juices only for a whole day. Fruit juice is high in simple sugars, so if you are a diabetic or have to monitor your sugar intake you should be careful before trying a fruit juice fast. Anyone embarking on a fasting plan should always consult with their doctor first. Also, do not fast on juice for prolonged periods of time, like more than 3 days, not unless your physician agrees that it is safe for you.

I have compiled some good recipes below which are great combinations of fruit and vegetables to get you started on your fast:

Recipe 1: This is a great drink with a combination of different vegetables. Three carrots, one celery stalk, two swiss chard leaves, a few sprigs of watercress, a celery stalk and half a beetroot. Wash, dice and juice is all that is needed. Quick and delicious.

Recipe 2: This is my carrot and apple juice favorite that consists of two to three green apples, one carrot and fresh basil leaves. Perform the same steps of washing, dicing and juicing as previously outlined.

Recipe 3: This is a carrot juice with a little extra. Mix together a handful of dandelion leaves. mint, basil, one kale leaf, four carrots and coriander leaves and just juice for a quick drink.

Recipe 4: A peach juice by just using two or three peaches. As always, wash, slice and juice in the machine.

There are many types of juices you can make to fast with. Some fasts recommend just fruit and others just vegetables. It does not really matter at the end of day. you will soon start discovering your own favorite combinations.

The Healthy Option of Citrus Juicing

July 2nd, 2009
by Leanne Tyler

Many people are aware of the benefits of juicing but do not know the significant benefits that citrus juice has to offer. Human beings are one of the few species that does not make its own supply of Vitamin C. This vitamin has a number of benefits to health.

It has often been suggested that we suffer many of our illnesses such as viruses and cancer due to our lack of Vitamin C. It is responsible for fighting the free radicals that causes damage to the cells in our body. Thousands of years ago, the picture was slightly different as we ate much more fruit than we do today. We have hands that are designed to pick and grasp fruit and so this was an easy food source for us to obtain.

Due to this high level of Vitamin C intake in the past it is believed our body started to produce less and less until today when we produce none. In the modern diet the amount of fruit we eat has decreased substantially. Therefore, our intake of this important chemical has also reduced to a significant and inadequate degree.

Juicing has become a way for us to reverse this and start increasing our intake of vitamins again. It is also an enjoyable, fast and refreshing way to boost our health. It does not require any regular expense of Vitamins or supplements and is all natural.

One of the greatest scientists of the twentieth century and Nobel laureate, Linus Pauling, was one of Vitamin C’s greatest supporters. He believed that many of the illnesses that we experience today were due to a lack of this important chemical. The amounts he used to advise though were very big indeed. It is generally thought that these levels were excessive and that we do not need to ingest quite such huge amounts.

Large amounts of Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, can be found in oranges and lemons. Oranges contain about 50mg of ascorbic acid per 100g of fruit and about 70mg per fruit slice. Compare this to the recommended daily allowance of 70mg. This, however is the amount recommended to prevent scurvy. It is scurvy that classically causes bleeding gums.

Investing in a citrus juicer or fruit juicer is an investment in your health. As you can see from this article, many of the essential nutrients we require can be obtained in this healthy, natural way.
