I once had this friend in the grout cleaning business who was asked by another friend of mine for advice on the best grout cleaning solution. I suppose she thought, if she needed advice about cleaning grout, who better to ask than a professional? Well, I don?t know why she didn’t just ask him to come and clean her grout, but that’s her business. In any case, my friend jokingly said “Vinegar.” was the best grout cleaner. But really, it doesn’t work.

This happened quite some time ago, but I remembered that bit of bad advice whilst I was surfing the Internet recently. I browsed a person inquiring about what other people think is the best remedy to dirty grout. And surprisingly, most people seem to think that vinegar is the best solution to dirty grout! Huh. I wonder if my friend had a hand in perpetuating this myth?

Theoretically, I suppose vinegar could work. Vinegar is essentially a mild acidic solution. Paired with a bit of determination and patience, I guess one can use it to scrub off a portion of the dirt in the grout, and a few kinds of mold while they’re at it. But, I will advise to not use vinegar on grout. It doesn’t clean that well, and really, plain detergent will work better than it.

If you live here in Tampa, all you have to do is to look for the grout experts to do the job properly. Do not waste time and money spending on homebrew remedies that are untested; your own time and money could be invested in more profitable things than cleaning your own house.

Avoid thinking that you save when you do it yourself instead of hiring help. Without the proper tools and machines, cleaning grout will take quite a long while, no matter what miraculous concoction you have. Time is valuable, and you don’t spend it when it’s much more efficient to have someone else do it for you.
