Home Design With A Round Area Rug

March 18th, 2010

Round rugs are the best solution if you do not know what type of rug to go with. You want to avoid wasting money on rugs that are too big, too small, or if they are the wrong shape. It doesn’t matter if you buy a Persian rug or a plain pastel rug, a round rug is the perfect instant addition to any room.

The quality and appearance of area rugs is predominantly determined by the type of material. Natural fibers and synthetic are your main choices. Natural fiber rugs are more environmentally friendly but synthetic fibers are stronger. It just depends what you want to get out of your rug.

If you want a rug that offers a wide variety of colors and won’t fade or stain then you may want to purchase an acrylic rug. One of the most popular rugs is the polypropylene area rugs. These rugs are not only durable but they are stain resistant as well. These rugs are also round. The nylon rugs are a not a comfortable rug but they are very durable and easy to maintain. These rugs are great in the kitchen and the bathroom. Wool area rugs are the best rugs. Wool rugs have a natural air filter material that is very soft. Cotton area rugs are even softer than the wool rugs. Cotton rugs don’t last that long. Jute area rugs are soft rugs but they can fade easily when they are left in direct sunlight and they are very sensitive to moisture. Sisal area rugs are great for everyday wear. Jute, sea grass, and bamboo are good choices as far as material is concerned. But they are best used in areas without a lot of traffic.

A round area rug is by far the best choice for any room. The design of the rug is also important. When you have a round rug in the bath, slide it close to the tub for a drying mat as well as a bathroom rug. A square rug or rectangle rug can fold on you but it won’t fold with a round rug. Water can damage the natural fibers found in wool so keep this in mind when buying a rug and opt for a synthetic rug.

People sometimes use an area rug for padding on their furniture. This is a waste of a good rug. Instead place the rug on the floor in the middle of the room and let the kids play with their toys.

Remember that a round area rug should compliment the design of the room. Your goal should be a well designed round area rug that compliments the look that is in the room. When it comes to colors you need a rug that is neutral in color such as black or beige. If you don’t have a certain look in your room yet then buy a red area rug and create the room around the rug.

Rug decorating just got even simpler with these round floor rugs.

Time Traveling In Home Decorating

March 13th, 2010

It is not surprising to find home decors and decorating themes of the past making a comeback. Antiques have always been highly regarded, old furniture dressed in newer materials are perfectly acceptable, Victorian and Medieval themes are sophisticated, and ideas from past decades are still implemented in beautifying the home. Style is one indecisive lady – one day she’s gone, the next day she’s back. The good news is, the furniture of the past made available at present are way more affordable than when your parents purchased the same pieces back then. As to how long ago that was, let’s leave it to distant memory (unless your folks are willing to divulge the answer).

If you’re a fashionista at heart and wants be in with the current, which is in fact old-style decors, the answer is to go thrift shopping. Instead of your usual trip to the malls and department stores, visit flea markets, thrift stores, secondhand or recycled shops and resale outlets. You will find a multitude of retro furniture at half the price the poor original owners paid for. The no less than $500 piece can be bought for $200 max. You can be an expensive shopper you’ve only envisioned in your dreams.

If you are going to go retro there are some other things to think about. You will probably want to change the color of your room and possibly even the lighting. The more recent color tones tend to be muted compared to retro tones, almost as if the shade were a dim memory of the past. Go through your old picture book and find a picture of you in your favorite outfit from back then. Make sure this is the outfit that brings back memories of better days. You know the one: every time you see it in a picture you say, “I wish I could still wear that!” Now take the picture to a paint store and have the color matched. Most large paint stores or home improvement stores will do this for free. If the picture is too faded to match, pick the color that is the closest to what the color used to be.

To enhance the colors and furniture, choose not just good lighting but a stylish one as well. You can also add some lighting accents such as a candelabra, a prominent fixture during the earlier times. It will also look good with a retro lamp or a hanged mirror on the wall.

The final touches on a room are the most important part. I went retro in my family room, so I found old family photos, scanned them into my computer, retouched the color, and blew them up. After mounting these into frames I scattered them around the room. I also found some wonderful throw pillows. Different shapes are important when decorating retro style and both picture frames and pillows are an easy way to add both shape and color.

A carpeted floor was no stranger during the early times. Plantation mansions of the yesteryears were covered in wall-to-wall carpeting; hence, carpets are great floor coverings to go with the theme. However, carpets can cost quite a lot, especially if you are on a tight budget. An equally effective way is to use area rugs. Decorate with large, thick rugs for a semblance of real carpeting, minus the bigger size. If you have been buying used items for this decorating project, you can spare some of your extra cash from good deals to buy a brand new area rug. It may be just a floor covering you think, but area rugs are good investments. You can use them anytime, anywhere. They are easy to clean and maintain. They can be chameleons, changing a room’s look with a mere swap in their color or design. Area rugs are worth your expenses.

This should complete your retro room makeover. Take some time to enjoy your new space as you look through photo albums and compare your new style to the style of your mother’s rooms in years past. You might even get some creative ideas for accessories of other pieces to add to your room over time.

Keep up with current trends in rug decorating and enhance your home with oriental area rugs.

Decorating Your Living Room

March 12th, 2010

The living room is an essential part of home decorating. How can we possibly leave out the area where we entertain guests, hang out with friends and family or watch television and relax…or all of the above? If there’s one place that should always look its best, it should be the living room.

Cleanliness is next to godliness. How true is that! A clean living room no matter how small or simple is more appealing than a big and embellished but messy living room. A clean house speaks volumes about the homeowners and a cluttered receiving area magnifies that volume even more. Now you wouldn’t want to be called a slob, would you?

A vibrant-looking living room beats a plain, dull looking one by a knockout. The more cheerful your living room looks, the more enjoyable it becomes to stay in this place. Use colors that reflect your personality and colors that go well with the furnishings. A put together living room is an impressive space that your guests see firsthand. They might not see the rest of the house but when they see what a well-decorated living room you have, the impression weighs on the good scale.

An area rug is the perfect finishing touch to a living room, either as a centerpiece or as an accent to furniture pieces. An area rug creates a stylish effect to the division of space and highlights items that it is paired with. Choose an area rug that meets your living room’s theme.

Regardless of how you do it, be sure to remember that your living room should be inviting, colorful, and simple. You don’t have to break the bank to get the look you want into your family room. Keep it as stress free as possible, so you are able to sit back and enjoy the room once it is finished. Happy decorating!

If you found this information about Interior Living Room Decorating beneficial, then you are going to love these bamboo shag rugs.

Silk Flowers And Silk Arrangements And Their Benefits

March 6th, 2010

Floral arrangements have not undergone a lot of changes. As early as 2,500 B. C. when the Egyptians started doing them, they are still the same as what we have in practice today as depicted in their wall carvings and wall writings. Different occasions like burials and processions call for floral arrangements. They are also being used as early as then for table centerpieces. Up until today, they are still being used for the same purposes, and more.

People usually see flower arrangements in a positive manner, that is, they are always a delight to behold. Why? This is because they are effective in adding a touch of cheer and liveliness to any room – in homes, stores, shops, and other types of establishments. Generally, they are being used in the form of bouquets, centerpieces for tables, and wreaths. Most of the time, florists can have them arranged according to the occasion and according to your specifications through using the best flowers they have available. Buying floral arrangements is all worth the money you spend on them because of the positive effects that they are able to bring.

Because of the intricacy of their arrangements as well as the costs of fresh flowers, flower arrangements definitely do not come cheap, especially during the holiday seasons, like Valentine’s Day or Christmas Day or Thanksgiving. Florists are definitely taking advantage of these seasons to be able to sell their wares up to triple their normal selling prices, and because of this, people who badly wants to have them or who really needs them simply couldn’t to budget constraints.

The existence of silk flowers that can be used for silk arrangements paved the way for ordinary folks like you and me to get to enjoy the effects of real floral arrangements without worrying too much about their cost and the practical things that we could have bought instead of them have we not felt the pressing need to have them spruce up any type of occasion. Another great thing about silk flowers and silk arrangements is that they can last a very long time as long as you are able to clean them from time to time by dusting them. They also do not wilt and can certainly be great mementoes to have.

Silk arrangements can be made even cheaper if you make them yourself. It is easy. All you need are the following:

Self-Managing Home Renovation: Common Mistakes Done

February 25th, 2010

A home remodeling or renovation project is not as simple as it may sound. Renovating a building is not simply all about how it will look or function, but most importantly you have to deal with what type of materials are used during the renovation, how are you going to deal with your suppliers and contractors, etc. These of course will be handled by the person who will supervise the project. Thus before a renovation project starts, one of the most essential decisions to be made is who will manage the project.

You can either employ a professional who will do the work or alternatively, you can manage the project yourself. If you choose to manage the work yourself, make sure that you have enough experience to deal with this. According to Gail La Grouw, the following are some common mistakes done by owners who have decided to take on the role of managing the renovation project themselves,

1. Inadequate Planning

Creating a good plan is a critical part of your role as a project manager. The success of the project mostly depend on this. Your plan must include as much detail as possible. You have to consider planning for contingencies as well.

2. Poor Materials Management

Purchasing of the appropriate materials at the right time is a huge task during renovation. Think about this job properly, as it can be the reason of delay to your schedule. You can also acquire extra cost if you do not have your materials at the needed time.

3. Poor Record Keeping

Lodge everything especially things that have to do with finances. Record keeping must be done everyday. You certainly will overlook something in your list if you do it in an inconsistent way. Record keeping will also let you know precisely where you are in terms of time and dollars against the plan specification.

4. Not Managing The Work Site

Most subcontractors are seeking to cut cost by disregarding a number of regulations and workplace safety items. This is a bad thing of course. Make sure that there is a proper insurance for their area of work.

5. Poor Communication

As home owners are not that knowledgeable with terms being used for renovation, miscommunication can occur along the way. Make sure that when you do not understand things, clear it up, but never loose your confidence in front of your contractors of course.

6. Poor Change Management Control

All changes made during the renovation process must be documented and sign off.

7. Not Keeping Check of the Budget

Keep an eye with your budget, as most projects will overrun the initial estimate, make sure to add some percentage of your budget for your contingency plans.

Some Advantages Of Kitchen Bay Windows

January 23rd, 2010

Kitchen bay windows can be useful and it can look very nice in your room. It can bring a dark, unappealing room into light. Such a window is both practical and attractive. There are a lot of advantages to owning a home with a kitchen bay window.

The addition of a kitchen bay window would make a lovely accent to your room, but that might be all you’re considering. However, apart from looks, there are several other reasons that are also important in choosing a bay window for your kitchen.

The looks would indeed be the primary cause for your purchase. There are 3 aspects to the looks of the bay window. One is the window frame. Bay windows come with different types of frames. Most these days they are metal frames when you purchase them in the store, but you can place them in new woodwork to let them seem a part of your house. If you have an older house, you can buy used lumber to fashion you framework and sill from them instead. Whatever you choose, make sure your window will be framed beautifully.

At the same time, you may want to consider the glass itself as a part of your window. When you are choosing how large the window should be, you also must settle how many sides that the bay window will have. This is because a bay window has at least three (or more) glass panes held together at angles. You can have many panes, or you can have a simple three-pane window.

Sunlight is a specialty of bay windows. sunlight streams into your kitchen and breakfast nook areas whenever the sun is in the proper direction. If your windows face west, you will get afternoon sunlight & if they face east, of course you will get morning sunshine. No lighting fixture can brighten your kitchen in a way that the natural light from the sun can. Besides, the bay windows give an open feeling in a room that usually seems too closed off otherwise.
