Treatments for Oily Skin Care

October 6th, 2009
by Suzi Sorenson

Whilst many skin care ranges offer alternatives depending on your skin type, it is often the case that there isn to alot of difference between the formulas for oily skin, dry skin and combination skin alterntives.

The hormonal changes that occur in our bodies as we reach puberty mean that it is very common to have an oily skin type at this age. Generally, for most of us, our skin tends to dry out as we get older as the production of sebum oil reaches a high during adolescence and slowly decreases with age, this may be an advantage for those of us who suffer with an oily skin type. Hormonal imbalances during the menopause and pregnancy means that some women may experience an increase in the level of sebum oil produced at this time.

Many people have skin that is oily in certain regions of the face, generally the facial area we refer to as the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), and dry or normal in others. This skin type is generally referred to as combination skin.

The main causes of an oily or combination skin type are generally: Hormone levels Cosmetics and skin care lotions Humidity and hot weather Pregnancy and birth control Heredity

Cleansing Oily Skin Although it may seem like a counter-productive measure to clean oily skin with oil-based products, they do actually prove to be quite effective in ridding the skin of excess sebum. You should avoid cleansing creams since these tend to be too harsh, instead choose a pure soap with no artificial additives, or try a lightly medicated soap or antibacterial cleansing lotion.

As part of your oily skin care routine, wash oily skin gently in warm water and avoid products that leave the skin feeling overly dry since this can result in a reaction known as reactive seborrhoea, where the sebaceous glands increase oil production in response to the reduction in the level of oil. Alcohol-based products since be avoided since they can take away too much oil and you should reduce the number of times you wash daily since this can cause reactive seborrhoea. Products that dry the skin out too much sometimes cause the upper layers of the skin to shrink, restricting oil flow through the pores which can exacerbate pore blockage.

Oily skin treatment When cleansing, massage your face with your fingertips, using an outward and upward motion, and take care not to rub soap into the skin since this can increase the risk of clogging. If your skin is also scaly as well as oily, then you might want to try a deep-cleaning exfolient a couple of times a week. Choose an oil-free moisturizer for a shine-free complexion.

Before you apply your foundation for oily skin, it is a good idea to use an antiseptic day cream with active ingredients that diminish sebaceous secretions. Benzyl peroxide is an effective agent for this so look out for oily skin care products that include this in their list of active ingredients.

Just The Facts About Hair loss And Hair Re-Growth Treatments

October 6th, 2009
by Robert Read

Hair loss is something that most men fear. Its a sign of aging some people think of hair loss as a distinguishing feature. The truth is that the vast majority of us just wish that cloud of boldness above our heads would just go away.

Before you attempt to re-grow your hair you must take a serious look at what factors have caused your hair loss in the first place. If its a genetic feature like male pattern baldness all the hair re-growth products in the world will not help until you’re willing to address this fact. If you have a health problem or stress that is causing your hair to fall out you must address those problems. The fact is that your whole body is like a massive herb garden that the health of one plant can and will affect the health of all the other plants around it.

The truth is that the healthier you are and the better the choices you make with your health the happier you will be and the better your body will respond to what life has to through at it. The loss of your hair is a very stressful thing that can be like a cascading effect. Lose your job stresses the body placing extra toxins in your blood stream these toxins end up in your hair causing some of your hair to fallout witch stresses you out more. Certain chemical that you may work with or drugs you may be taking could all effect your hair loss.

Once you have figured out and addressed what is causing your hair loss when and only then can you get down to the nitty gritty of replacing or re-growing your hair. Genetic hair loss is best treated by hair transplant technologies. Doctors for years have been very successful with attaining very natural results for people with these kinds of genetic ailments. That is not to say that the ingredients that are in some hair re-growth products would not help in the hair replacement presses but that is up to you and your doctor.

Hormones control everything our bodies do. A hormone called Androgen is what is responsible for hair growth in your body. What happens in some men is that an enzyme called 5 alpha attaches itself to the androgen hormone witch in turn allows testosterone to adhere to the Androgen hormone. The result is that instead of promoting hair growth the hybrid hormone called Dihydrotestosterone or DHT for short dramatically shortens your hair’s growth cycle.

There are three distinct life cycles your hair goes through Anagen, Categen and Tologen. The Anagen cycle which last two to six years and is when your hair is healthy and growing. Categen is when your hair starts to thin and your hair follicles start to shrink. This phase lasts for a few weeks. The third Cycle Tologen is when your hair falls out to make room for new hair follicles. The problem with DHT is that it not only shortens your hairs natural life spam of two to six years it acts to prevent the new hair follicles from forming.

Minoxidil the only government approved hair loss ingredient acts to block the adhesion of the 5 Alfa enzyme to your natural hair growth hormone Androgen. By doing so allows your natural hair regrowth process to start a new. This process can take some time depending upon the amount of damage the DHT hormone has done to your hair follicles.

For natural healthy hair ingredients like vitamin B6, Biotin, Magnesium, Zinc, Saw Palmetto,Muira Puama, Uva-Ursi Root, Stinging Nettle leaf, Pumpkin Seed and Eleuthero Root all work to create the perfect conditions for naturally healthy hair and hair re-growth. These are the ingredients that are like the super fertilizer.

You Don’t Have To Be Bald

October 6th, 2009
by Dan Nelson

Almost all men, and a fairly large percentage of women, will have some level of hair loss as they age. This may be just thinning hair or it may be bald spots or complete baldness. Most people will deal with it at some level. This problem is getting much bigger now that the average age in the US is increasing.

Most men do not like the fact they are going bald. They take it as a sign of aging which it is. If you want to control the hair loss then finding the right treatment can be well worth it. In my opinion there are three good methods for helping you to get hair back on your head.

The first one is my favorite, hair implants. I like this method because it gives a final answer to the problem of baldness. It uses a persons own hair so there is not a problem with matching.

When hair implants were first developed they did not look very natural. But over the years advancements in micro-surgical techniques has made this one of the most realistic looking hair loss treatments. In the procedure hair follicles are removed from one area of the scalp and the inserted into the bald area. These hair follicle units will take root and grow giving a long lasting head of hair.

The next method is, hair replacement systems. You probably don’t know them by this name. They are also known as toupees. The reason for the name change is the word toupee has come to be associated with comedy.

You probably can’t count the number of times you have seen a guy lose his toupee at an embarrassing time in an old movie. Even just using the word makes people chuckle because of all the funny images. This made it imperative that the name be changed.

Hair replacement systems are actually a very good, cheap way to get a full head of hair. They are very well matched to your hair color and texture. Also, the attachment systems work much better than in the movies. These deserve a look if you are on a small budget.

The last method is drugs approved by the FDA. There are two drugs that have been researched and found to have an effect on hair growth. Finasteride is taken in a pill form and Minoxidil is a topical solution that is applied to the scalp. Both of these are marketed under various brand names.

These are three different methods that are each effective when combating baldness. You really do want to get hair back on your head if you have balding because men are assumed to be much older than they really are when the have bald spots. Research each of these possibilities and see which is right for you.

The Facts About What Human Growth Hormone Supplements Can Do For You

October 5th, 2009
by Robert Read

Many Scientists define aging as the degradation of skeletal muscle formation. Some say its an inability of DNA cell reproduction. In both cases, your human growth hormones are at the root of the subject. Human growth hormones are produced in your Anterior Pituitary gland and play a big role in cell reproduction and in your immune system function. Natural production of these hormones in your body starts to fall of when you turn twenty and is at half of its original production when you turn sixty.

Several factors contribute to the decline in production of these hormones which accelerates our natural aging posses. Genetically there are few resins why, outside of not needing these hormones, our bodies slow down their production.

When you were a baby your mother’s milk gave you an extra boost of these growth hormones. This is why babies who was not breast fed, in early development, are smaller and less developed than those that were. Some scientists theorize that the resin our bodies slow down this production is that it’s only been in the past one hundred years that the average age of the human population has surpassed fifty. Giving the body no real resin to waste energy on these hormones.

Two thousand years ago, which is not much time in evolutionary development, the average person lived into their thirties giving the body no resin what so ever to produce these hormones. The farther back in time you go the less the average life expectancy was. If you were a cave man you were lucky to make it passed your first birthday and was probably an elder by the time you turned thirteen and became sexually active. So If you take a serous look at this the scientist were probably right.

We face a delema, today our life spans have reached a point that we now need these hormones in order to maintain a healthy body and productive life into our fortys, fiftys and sixties.

Some athletes have been criticized for taking human growth hormone supplements to extend and enhance their physical abilities. The truth is that these athletes are facing in their thirties and forties a natural decrease in their body’s ability to product the hormones that gave them these abilities in the first place. The real controversy comes when younger athletes still in high school try to gain from these same supplements that which they would not have had in the first place. However, let’s make a clear distention about the difference between Human Growth Hormone Supplements and artificial growth steroids. Artificial growth steroids are synthetic replications of muscle growth hormones that can cause serous side effects. Human Growth Hormone Supplements are the essential and non-essential amino acids that your body needs to make these hormones on its own. The essential and non essential amino acids that can and well help your body produce human growth hormones.

These essential and non essential amino acids are as follows.

* L-Arginine Hydrochloride is a semi essential amino acid that changes in the blood stream to nitric acid. It helps treat chest pain, clogged arteries and blood vessel swelling. It also triggers the production of protein and creatine in the body for muscle production.

* L-Leucine slows the degradation of muscle tissue and is used in the body to form steroids.

* L-Glutamine is a non essential amino acid essential for the production of DNA, protein. Its also an alternative source of fuel for your brain and is used in weight lifting, body building and endurance sports and is the primary source of fuel for the entrecote, cells lining the inner walls of the small intestines.

* L-Lysine is an essential amino acid that converts into al lysine in your body for the production of elastins and collagen.

* Bovine colostrums aka first milk helps metabolize immune hormones.

* L-Ornithine Hydrochloride helps the body produce the human growth hormones L-arginine, L-praline and polyamines.

* L-Glycine is a non essential amino acid that helps people how have trouble sleeping, those with low blood sugar levels, muscle spasms and immune system problems. It also helps with prostate enlargement issues.

* Vitamin B6 enhances protein metabolism and elevates oxygen levels in the blood stream.

* Gama Aminobutyoric Acid signals the anterior pituitary gland to produce human growth hormones.

* Tribulus stimulates the production Luteinizing hormone that signal the production of testosterone in men and estrogen in women.

As you age and theses compounds are no longer being produced in the quantity to give you the vigor you once had. If you take seriously the effects these amino acids had on extending the careers of some very famous athletes in the passed few years. Its not hard to see the very real potential that these natural supplement could have on the quality of your own life. I guess the biggest proof of the effects these amino acids have on quality of life as we age is that after these same athletes were forced to stop taking these natural body building blocks how sharply there performances declined. If your looking to keep or get back that vigor for life you once had these human growth hormone building blocks are the keys.

Simple Cures For Male Infertility

October 1st, 2009
by Andrew W John

One of the unfair situations in life is where a couple has trouble conceiving a child. Although infertility is not a disease, its affects are similar, causing stress and anxiety for the couples who find out they may not be able to have a child.

Men are even less likely to discuss the matter if they are infertile but there are many reasons why the subject should be brought into the open more if for no other reason than to stop the misinformation surrounding male infertility. It is always easier to make decisions when they have been reached because the correct information has been supplied.

A couple are said to be infertile if they have been trying for a child for a full year and female infertility is where a woman has not been able to carry a baby for the full pregnancy. Male infertility is generally connected with hormonal disorders, obstruction in the reproductive system, sexual dysfunction, or recurring illness and is actually the state of inability rather than a specific disease. Therefore diagnosing this disorder requires a holistic approach that should cover everything regarding a man’s health, it is unfortunate however, that half of infertile men are irreversibly infertile which severely restricts their ability to father children.

The causes of male infertility can be categorized into two, which are congenital condition and acquired condition. If the male infertility has always been there then he was born with the condition and is a congenital defect but infertility that happens later may be from an illness or accident that has affected his chances of fathering a child.

Where the infertility is diagnosed as acquired, it could be the result of a disease such as diabetes (but there are others including those that are sexually transmitted) or from high blood pressure to medical treatment that required the use of radiation. It can also occur when the male is subject to disease that is systemic or system wide like that shown with high fever, serious infections or abnormalities found in the kidneys.

The male hormone testosterone is responsible for the development of the male sexual organs and where there is a reduction in this hormone then infertility can result. Infertility diagnosis has improved immeasurably in recent years and when it is being investigated in a couple and now the first step is to check the fertility of the man.

Initially the fertility specialist will ask the man questions about his family’s medical history to see if there is any indication that the infertility is of congenital origin. This makes recommending possible treatments much simpler as they each treat different conditions and with male infertility this means that there is an improved chance of successfully curing the infertility problem.

Stress Relief: Massage Chairs Bring You Reprieve

September 30th, 2009
by Frank Beck

A day spa is a great place to go to relax. You can find many different massage therapies to relieve your tensions and anxieties. For most of us, the use of a day spa may be once a week or maybe a few times a week. The occasional day at the spa helps to relieve stress that has built up over the course of a week or a few days. Unfortunately, the stress reduction from an afternoon at the spa lasts for the rest of the day. Stress and anxiety is ongoing and doesn’t stop at the day spa. You can have daily stress relief with a shiatsu massage chair recliner.

Many studies show that therapeutic massage reduces feelings of anxiety and stress while helping to be more relaxed and alert. A stress relief massage aids in relaxation while contributing to emotional feelings of wellness and greater peace of mind. Shiatsu massage chairs have specialized functons to relieve tired, sore and aching muscles to help you relax and feel better.

The best massage chair manufacturers include music therapy. These manufacturers have functions to synchronize the massage to the music in their MP3 players. The mind has many ongonig pertubations making relaxation difficult. Music therapy induces relaxation by calming and quieting the mind. The top massage chairs provide a total sensory environment with music and massage inducing whole body relaxation.

Shiatsu massage recliners are designed to cover the entire back, the hips, thighs and buttocks, and also the calves and feet. Full body massages have been studied by researches and doctors documenting the positive impact of massage in reducing stress. As stress is reduced, patients have decreased blood pressure, heal faster, and have deeper sleep. A massage chair can provide these therapies postively impacting anxiety and stress build up and tension.

It is awfully hard to relax if your body feels stressed. Sometimes this type of anxiety can permeate negative thoughts increasing tension and anxiousness. More serioulsy can lead to depressions, if left unchecked. Daily use of a shiatsu massage chair can help to reverse the cycle. As stress is reduced, energy is available for more positive pursuit increasing ones self image and sense of worth.

Day spas have a variety of treatments like peels, wraps and saunas. Obviously, these therapies are not currently available in a massage chair. As technology advances, one might see these treatments in the future with a massage recliner. At the present time, a daily morning or evening massage in a shiatsu recliner can change your attitude in the comfort of home. For now it is still worth a drive to the day spa, but having a massage chair increases the frequency of access to massage therapy to provide daily relief. The key being to reduce stress and anxiety as it arises and not letting it build up over time.

Should You Be Leery Of Herbal Treatments For Enlarged Prostates?

September 30th, 2009
by Leonard Z Sennish

Does sensitivity to medications used to treat an enlarged prostate plague you and limit their effectiveness? Or have you find them to be absolutely useless?

Maybe you just prefer a more natural way to deal with your BPH?

If so then maybe using herbs to treat your enlarged prostate may be what you need.

Such a choice is not as crazy as some make it out to be. For instance many men suffering from mild to moderate BPH may choose to treat themselves with saw palmetto extracts.

As way of background saw palmetto comes from the North American dwarf palm. This extract has wide usage in Europe and the US by those who believe it can offer relief for their swollen prostates.

Unlike drugs which can cause unwanted side-effects for some like erectile dysfunction, when the dosage of saw palmetto is 160 mg or less twice a day, similar side-effects have not been noted.

As a dietary supplement, saw palmetto has been studied fairly extensively.

As often happens some studies show this herbal supplement reduces prostate inflammation and relieves urinary symptoms. Others don’t. Plus the FDA has not evaluated any of these products. All of which is to say your mileage may vary.

But if this works why does it work? The thinking is saw palmetto inhibits DHT – an enzyme at least partially responsible for the swelling of your prostate

Usually within 3-4 weeks after starting with saw palmetto you should see symptoms like frequency and urgency of the need to urinate to lessen – by maybe as much as 25%. Other symptoms might improve as well.

You might also want to take selenium tablets and drink cranberry juice every day to keep your prostate and urinary system healthy..

Now if you also munch on pumpkin seeds along with saw palmetto, which are naturally rich in zinc and trace minerals like selenium, you may well see a drop in your enlarged prostate symptoms.

Good as all this may sound just keep several things here.

You always want to discuss your desire to try this herbal tact with your doctor first.

Be patient if going this route. Herbal treatments require you faithfully adhere to the program for 60-90 days before deciding if it is working or not.

The final point is the lack of regulation here. Supplement quality is known to vary all over the lot. So you have to check out any manufacturer before handing anyone your money so you have a good idea you’re getting what you’re paying for.

Saw palmetto is said to be a natural remedy for enlarged prostate. While I can’t say if it’s the right choice for you, sometimes you just have to try it for yourself to see if it will help relieve your symptoms.

Lose Stomach Fat, Get Flat Abs

August 25th, 2009
by Timothy Williams

Abs exercises and which ones are the best ones are probably the most talked about and controversial topic in the fitness and exercise industry today. Hundreds of ab gadgets, gimmicks, and exercise machines have flooded the market for people looking for sexier and flatter abdominals… that sexy six-pack abs appearance that everyone seeks. And we all know that not all of them can fulfill their promises of how to get ripped abs.

It may come to a surprise that most of these abdominal solutions are not really solutions at all to getting sick pack abs. Most of these abdominal exercises are only designed to tone your muscles up, not help you lose belly fat (which is the first step in getting flat abs, to lose belly fat).

If you were to lose that extra belly fat, you may be surprised to see abs forming without any abs exercises performed. This is because some people already have decent abs, but just have a layer of fat that is hiding the abs. All you really have to do is learn what best way to lose belly fat is.

Instead of focusing so much on abdominal exercises to make your stomach flatter and more like a six-pack, you will lose much more body fat by focusing the majority of your training time with special combinations of high intensity full-body, multi-joint exercises. The most efficient way to lose belly fat is to do the most intense full body workout that trains the largest portions of your body at once.

Target exercising muscle groups such as your legs, upper and lower back, and chest in order to get the most out of a workout when trying to lose belly fat. Do these exercises in high intensity super-set, tri-sets, or circuit fashion and you have the formula for the best fat-burning and metabolism boosting workouts.

Adjusting our attention to abs specific exercises, it is still valuable to do abs exercises. Remember however, to make the most of it.

A good measure to know if you are getting a good abs workout with an abs exercise is to determine if you can do 20-25 reps with ease. If so then you are not doing yourself any favors by continuing this exercise as you are not getting enough resistance to the abs with that particular exercise of the abs. Abs exercises that get you to do around 6-15 reps are the kinds of exercises you need to continue to keep doing to get six pack abs.

A couple great examples of these higher resistance abdominal exercises are hanging leg raises or knee raises using a “pelvic curl up”, or an exercise like lying hip thrusts. Instead of doing 50-100 crunches in a sitting, try to do just 2-3 proper hanging leg raises. Youll be surprised to learn that the exercise with the lesser rep is the more intense workout for you!

If you really want tighter flatter abdominals that look like a six-pack, remember that losing that extra belly fat is the MOST important factor.

How Natural Prostate Formulas Can Combat your Prostate Problems

August 21st, 2009
by Ben Zyskhwozi

As men age, one of the most serious considerations they have to take into account is protecting their prostate. Although the problems concerning the prostate are not quite apparent until a man reaches his 40s or 50s, still, utmost precaution must be followed. It would be much harder to cure the problem than prevent it.

The prostate gland is located under the urinary bladder. It surrounds the urinary tract and the lower end of the prostate is connected to the penis. It has a vital function of providing the semen the necessary nutrients it needs. A large part of the semen?s white fluid is supplied by the prostate gland. Since this gland is located very near to the urethra, any abnormality of the prostate will directly affect a man?s urination. Erection and ejaculation are also greatly affected by any problems with the prostate.

The most common problems encountered with the prostate are: prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH and the much-dreaded prostate cancer. Prostatitis includes infection or inflammation of the prostate. It may be caused by bacteria but is not transmitted through sexual contact. BPH, on the other hand, is the enlargement of the prostate. This becomes a problem because an enlarged prostate causes pressure on the urethra thereby making it hard for urine to pass through. Prostate cancer is caused by a tumor. It is also the second leading cause of cancer death among men.

One may choose from a variety of methods to cure a prostate problem. Among these are the treatment through radiation and surgery which are seen as very risky. Radiation can kill cancerous cells as well as healthy prostate cells. Taking drugs such as antibiotics is also seen as possible to cause damage. Since they only serve as pain reliever and anti-inflammatory, they are not directly intended to cure the problem. Such risk and non-dependability cause most men to choose natural prostate formulas. Natural means of treatment are favored by many to prevent complications from occurring.

Ingredients contained in natural prostate formulas are mainly obtained from plants. Since they are good for the body, they are considered safe for everyday intake. The popular ingredients include bet sitosterol, vitamins, zinc, selenium, pumpkin seed and lycopene. Other manufacturers even include unique plant extracts like nettle root, saw palmetto and pygeum.

Among the important components contained in these formulas, beta sitosterol is proven to be the best in reducing the size of enlarged prostates. This component also assists in maintaining a normal urine flow. Beta sitosterol is extracted from soy products like tofu.

Zinc and selenium are essential minerals for a healthy functioning of the prostate. Lycopene, being an antioxidant, aids in the maintenance of healthy DNA function among prostate cells.

Inflammation of the prostate is targeted by saw palmetto. This component also prevents testosterone from turning into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is damaging to the prostate if its amount is high. Nettle root acts on high levels of estrogen from damaging the prostate cells. Pygeum diminishes the impulse to urinate often.

Still, the best solution would be to exert extra effort in attending to the need of the prostate. It does not matter if symptoms are not yet occurring. What is important is to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid future problems from surfacing.
