Pontoon Boats: Transportation of Building Materials

June 2nd, 2009
by Chris Newman

Off of the East Coast a real estate businessman purchased a tiny island with the intention of building a resort area. As he surveyed the island it was determined that he could build a small hotel including a golf course. He had an idea to build a brick retaining wall to encircle the whole resort area thinking this would enhance and add value to this place. His designer present the plans to the construction company and it was then noted that getting the materials from the mainland to the island was a dilemma Transporting passengers from the mainland was also something that needed to be thought out. What would be the best direction to go with these two problems? All roads led to the plan of buying pontoon boats. The boats would be a big plus in transporting the building supplies and help with the construction. The pontoons would be used in moving guests from one area to another. With pontoons, they were able to solve two problems with move.

He went into town the following day and located a boating dealer; there he was able to immediately secure the purchase of three pontoon boats. He ordered a larger, more elaborate pontoon boat to be delivered at a later date for guest transportation. The construction pontoons were basic models equipped with fourteen feet of open working space, which is just what the contractors needed when they had to build the rock retaining walls that were to surround the property. The pontoon boats were open and provided a platform for work space as well as stability. Construction began two weeks ago on the retaining walls, and the crew is working quickly and efficiently to try and complete all the work on a timely basis.

The pontoons were especially helpful when the workers needed to berth in shallow waters, something that couldn’t be done with any other type of boat. The workers were able to move around the island with relative ease because of the pontoons versatility. It was easy for the contractors to roll out their blueprints directly on the deck of the pontoon and work directly from the dock. Never having to worry about tipping over or falling into the water due to an unstable work platform. The owners of the construction business were so impressed with the strength and durability that they decided to invest in a small fleet of their own pontoon boats for their next marine construction job.

The completion of the island project was done within the time frame set. Our businessman was so happy and impressed with this crew that he gave them a wonderful bonus, in thanks of a job well done. With the beautiful rock wall surrounding the resort, the owner was pleased with his investment. He was also happy with his pontoon boats. Without them the materials being transported to the island would have been a big headache. This is the time where pontoon boats are being used more for work projects than recreation. It is the best of both worlds, work and recreation. Many uses of pontoons are starting to be noticed by all.

Pontoon Boats: Not Just For Fun!

April 7th, 2009
by Chinook Boats

Have you noticed how many people use pontoon boats for recreation and fun activities? Many of these owners have started to use this palace of floating enjoyment for other activities too, such as hauling and pulling. By using a pontoon boat instead of a larger vessel oceanographers have been able to get closer to coral reefs giving them the opportunity to take outstanding photographs. Scientists can also use the smaller pontoon boats for studying animals and collecting data for research. For smaller fishing companies they can use the pontoon boat to transport their fishing crews, allowing them to take several workers out at the same time which saves money on less manpower to operate a larger boat also saving on the high cost of fuel.

A scientist will never get close enough to a whale pod to study their daily ocean habits in a larger vessel, so by anchoring a smaller pontoon with inflated pontoons, they can go out independently and get very close, which allows for up close observation. For the scientist, an inflatable pontoon is a requirement in some instances. When trying to draw closer to a colony of seals or sea lions, most of these animals view a larger vessel as a threat, while if the scientists come gently trolling in a smaller pontoon boat, the seals are not as stressed out or threatened by the noise and commotion. For researching purposes alone, an inflatable pontoon is an invaluable tool.

Many times scientists will dart dolphins with a tag while they are studying them. The tag allows the dolphin to be monitored and is also used for a tracking system. Using the smaller craft such as an pontoon boats to tag the animals is a great example of why scientist prefer the pontoon. Dolphins have actually come up to the pontoon boat to check it out, making the darting and tagging opportunity very easy. The dolphins coming up to the smaller pontoon and not feeling threatened is just another reason to use pontoons.

If a scientist wants to go and study marine life on a secluded island, he wouldn’t want to use a large sea vessel due to the problems of docking safely. The motor and rudders would be ripped to pieces by the rocky terrain underwater. To solve this problem, just carry an inflatable pontoon boat on board the vessel. It just takes ten minutes to assemble and inflate the pontoon. It doesn’t come much easier than that. When the pontoon is ready the scientist will be able to travel to the island and gather their information then troll on back to the larger vessel when they are finished. Another perfect example of how using the smaller inflatable pontoon makes it possible for scientists to complete their job.

Ocean photographers the world over often use the pontoon boats to go into rough waters, because they are lighter and easier to manage. In addition to ocean photography, a pontoon can also be used in the rain forest to troll through the dense forest to travel from point to point. It is because of the extreme versatility, rugged design and durability, that pontoons are now utilized for many reasons other than pleasure.

Pontoon Boats: Transportation

April 5th, 2009
by Chris Newman

Sometime ago a real estate tycoon purchased a tiny island off the east coast, intending to develop it into a vacation resort. While surveying the property he decided that the island would be big enough for a small hotel with a golf course. He wanted to add a brick retaining wall to surround the property for privacy and also visual enhancement. A contractor presented the plans when the owner realized he had a big problem that he hadn’t planned for. How would he get all of the building materials from the mainland to the island? This question led to another one, how would he transport the guest to the island as well? His solution was to buy pontoon boats. He would be able to use the pontoons for transporting materials and helping the construction of the island hotel area, later having his staff transport the guest to the island. Solving two problems with one answer.

As soon as possible the businessman located a local boat dealer and was able to purchase three pontoon boats. Two pontoons would be used for the construction and building matters the third one, larger more detailed pontoon, would be delivered when the hotel was opened to transport guest. The two smaller pontoons were the basic models with fourteen feet of open space. This space would be used for a work area by providing a platform to be used as fourteen feet of work space. Construction started two weeks later and with the help of the pontoon boats the crew were able to work quickly and so efficiently they would be able to complete the project in a timely manner.

When the workers needed to berth in shallow water, they found the pontoons to be especially helpful. Berthing in shallow water could not be done in other type of boats. With the versatility of the pontoons the construction crew were able to mover around the island with much ease and less stress. The contractors could roll out their blue prints right on the deck and work directly from the dock. Never having to be concerned with tipping over or falling into the water the platform was so stable. The pontoon boats made such an impact on the owners of the construction company with the strength and durability of one that they decided to buy a small fleet for themselves for their next marine project.

Pontoon Boats: More Than Just For Fun!

April 4th, 2009
by Chris Newman

I have seen people use pontoon boats for playtime and recreation, but now they are putting this floating pleasure palace to a more surprising use, would you ever think you can use a pontoon boat for hauling and pulling things? Oceanographers can use a pontoon boat in lieu of a larger watercraft so that they can get farther out into the oceans coral reefs, allowing them to take phenomenal photographs. Scientists can use smaller pontoon boats for various purposes as well, such as collecting data and studying animals for research. Some smaller fishing companies use a pontoon boat for their fishing crews, allowing them to take several employees out at the same time while saving money on the high costs of fuel and manpower it requires to operate a larger boat.

For researching purposes alone, an inflatable pontoon is an invaluable tool.

While studying the water life, scientists will dart dolphins with a tag for monitoring and tracking to gather other data. In order to do this successfully a small craft like the inflatable pontoon boat is preferred. It is not uncommon for the dolphins to swim right next to the pontoon boat making darting and tagging so much easier. There are many animals that are less threatened by a smaller pontoon and dolphins are just one of them.

When a scientist goes to study marine life on a secluded island, a larger sea vessel isn’t going to be able to dock safely. The rudders and motor would be torn apart by the rocky underwater terrain, so to solve this problem they will carry inflatable pontoon boats onboard. When a smaller pontoon is needed, they take about ten minutes to inflate and assemble; you can’t get much more convenient than that. Once the smaller pontoon is assembled the scientist can then proceed to the island, gather the needed information and troll back to the larger vessel when they are done. This is another perfect example of when a smaller pontoon is needed, and without them some scientists hands would be tied and they couldn’t do their job.

Ocean photographers like to use pontoon boats when the water is rough because these boats are easier to manager. A pontoon could be used in the rain forest to travel from area to area in the dense forest for additional help to the photographer. Pontoons are now utilized for other reasons than just fun times because of its versatility, durability and rugged design
