August 19th, 2009
by Mbonda Nkopit

Are you brand new to fishing? If so, you will need to get 1 of various baitcasting rods out there. Fishing can be a heap of enjoyment, but without the right baitcasting rods, you could not think it all that thrilling. With the right rod, you can ensure that you have fun and actually catch fish. Here are several choices for newbie’s when choosing rods.

When choosing baitcasting rods for newbie’s, the rod that is selected needs to be robust and durable. You want to be in a position to deal with any catch when you get a pole. In fact, you don’t want to catch just small fish. You probably wish to catch the biggest fish possible with your rod, so a strong rod is important.

Baitcasting rods have reels that are above the actual pool and there are rings on the line and the guides are on top of the pool too. You employ a special trigger on the rod so that even if releasing the line, you’ve a great grip on the pole. This is one of the easier options for people just beginning to fish.

Graphite is one of the best material choices when you are selecting baitcasting rods for newbie’s. These rods are really light and they are easy for you to control as well. If you are just starting out, then it is a brilliant idea to pick a pole that is made of graphite, since you’ll find it easier to use until you improve at fishing.

Of course, there also are some baitcasting rods that are made from both graphite and fiberglass. These rods can also be an extremely pretty good choice for newbie’s who are fishing for the first time. These rods are powerful, sturdy, awfully light, and they’re simple to afford as well.

So you could be wondering where you can look for good baitcasting rods, a sporting products store is somewhere you could be able to find these rods. However, one of the finest places to find them is on the internet. It is easy to find different options on the web when it comes to these rods, which gives you a huge choice to choose from.

Often the prices are the best on the internet when you are purchasing baitcasting rods too. As the interest is so competitive, frequently the costs are the best there. You may also look round and compare costs to determine which rod is going to fit best into the price range you are considering.

Fishing is an exciting pastime, and if you are just getting started, baitcasting rods will be an important option. Together with a good rod, you can have enjoyment, catch fish, and begin to get better at fishing. Later on you may want to go with extra complicated baitcasting rods, except for now it is best to start with rods that are easy to use.

NY Giants Beat Carolina On Last Second Fumble Return For TD

August 19th, 2009
by Ross Everett

The NFL couldnt have scripted a better ending to their first nationally televised Monday Night Football contest of the year. New York Giants rookie Tommie Hill returned a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown with 0:00 on the clock to break open a tie game and give his team a 24-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers in NFL preseason action .

Carolinas fourth string QB Hunter Cantwell was in a position where he just had to take a knee and run out the clock on first and 10 from his eighteen yardline. Instead, he tried to throw a pass only to have his arm hit forcing a fumble. Hill grabbed the loose ball and headed to the endzone for the shockingly bizarre finish and a Giants victory.

Tommie Hill was in shock as he spoke about his game winning touchdown return:

“I’ve never seen a game end like that, not that way. I’m just a rookie trying to make the team. Anything like that that helps the team win in turn helps me. It was just a fortunate situation and I made the most of it.”

Hill, an undrafted rookie out of Colorado State had already become a favorite of Giants fans due to his tenacious, high impact playmaking.

Carolina coach John Fox sounded bemused at his teams unusual loss:

“Kind of an interesting ending. Both sides have a lot of work, but we have time. We have three weeks to do it

Giants QB Eli Manning, who recently became the NFLs highest paid player, put a positive spin on his short night of work:

“We ran the ball really well, hit a couple passes and we got a touchdown. That is always the goal. We did a nice job with it, so I thought we were effective as the first group.”

Carolina will travel to Miami for a game next Saturday against the Dolphins. The Giants will head to Chicago to face Jay Cutler and the Bears. The Panthers will kick off the NFL regular season hosting the Philadelphia Eagles at home on Sunday, September 13th while the Giants will start their NFL campaign with a big divisional grudge match against the Washington Redskins.

Saskatchewan Survives Hamilton Comeback In Wild CFL Affair

August 18th, 2009
by Ross Everett

It was just a week ago that the Saskatchewan Roughriders blew a 22-0 first half CFL lead to the Edmonton Eskimos en route to a 38-33 loss. On Sunday afternoon, it looked for a moment like history was repeating itself. The Riders led 23-0 at halftime before the Hamilton Tiger-Cats came roaring back with 16 third quarter points. Hamilton would tie the score at 23-23 early in the fourth quarter before the hosts pulled it out with a late touchdown and field goal to win 33-23.

After the game, Roughriders coach Ken Miller talked about the importance of not blowing another big CFL lead:

“We didn’t want to do that again, “In the first half in particular it was sensational. In the third quarter we gave up some points … but overall our defence played pretty good.”

Hamilton head coach Marcel Bellefeuille said there was no moral victory in falling short after a big comeback:

“You’ve got to play 60 minutes to win in the CFL, you can’t play 30 minutes.”

An important component of the Roughriders victory was their improved rushing attack. Wes Cates becoming the first Roughrider to rush for more than 100 yards this season as he finished with 117. After the game, Cates spoke of his accomplishment:

“It was not as much for myself but more for the naysayers. Yeah I needed a big game like that to stop the rumours and stop people from talking bad about me.”

Saskatchewans defensive line also starred, completely shutting down the Hamilton rushing attack limiting the Tiger-Cats runners to a mere 31 yards on the ground.

Both Hamilton QBs struggled against the Saskatchewan defense. Kevin Glenn came in after the first quarter and finished the game 12-for-27 with 183 yards. starting QB Quinton Porter was 1-for-5 for only three yards before he was yanked.

The Tiger-Cats now have a bye week in which to try and regroup before they return to action August 29th on the road against the Edmonton Eskimos. Saskatchewan will head east to take on the CFL best Montreal Alouettes on Friday night.

Montreal Maintains CFL Dominance With Win Over Winnipeg

August 17th, 2009
by Ross Everett

The Montreal Alouettes demonstrated the form that has made them the CFLs top team in a Saturday visit to Winnipeg. Anthony Calvillo threw four touchdown passes and the tenacious Montreal defense all but shut down the Winnipeg offense as the Alouettes prevailed easily over the Blue Bombers by a 39-12 score. The Alouettes improved to 6-1 in CFL play, while the Bombers dropped to 2-5.

Calvillo not only through four TD passes, he through three consecutive passes for touchdowns which is a feat that he cant recall accomplishing previously in his lengthy professional career:

“Somebody mentioned that to me out there. I didn’t realize that and they asked me if it’s ever been done or if I’d done it before and I can’t recall.”

Montreals defense held Winnipeg to four FGs and recovered four Blue Bomber turnovers that led to Alouette scores. After the game, Calvillo gave all of the credit for the victory to the defense and insisted that his team had a lot of work to do:

“Our defence put us on the short field throughout the night and we capitalized on the turnovers. We have a lot of work to do. We had a few dropped passes, a few misreads by myself and two turnovers. We’re always looking to improve and we definitely have to improve on offence.”

Kerry Watkins caught one of Calvillos touchdowns and spoke of playing with the CFL legend in his postgame interview:

“It’s a great accomplishment, but something we don’t keep track of. It’s an honour. That’s a living legend. I’ve been so fortunate to play my whole (six-year) career with him.”

Bombers head coach Mike Kelly, who also serves as the teams offensive coordinator, chafed when asked if it was time to revamp the offense:

“There’s nothing wrong with this scheme. I’ve seen this scheme work 1,000 times .If you want to get right down to it, we have to block when we need to block and catch when we need to catch and throw to the right people. And right now we’re not doing those things so we’ll continue to look at it.”

Winnipeg defensive tackle Doug Brown agreed with his coachs assessment:

“Let’s put it this way, we were in a good enough dogfight without as many critical errors as we made ourselves. You play a team of this calibre, the last thing you need to do is dig yourself your own hole with penalties and turnovers and missed tackles and not executing our assignments and so on and so forth.”

Montreal will host Saskatchewan on Friday, while Winnipeg will head west for a game against British Columbia.

Stamps Beat Bombers In Crucial CFL Tilt

August 16th, 2009
by Ross Everett

The Calgary Stampeders used a solid all around game from running back Joffrey Reynolds to beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 31-23 before 35,000 fans at McMahon Stadium in weekend CFL action. The victory evened the Stamps record at 3-3 on the season and left them tied for first place in the CFL West Division with Saskatchewan and Edmonton. The Blue Bombers dropped to 2-4 with the setback.

Reynolds ran one touchdown and caught another to lead the Stamps offensive attack. After the game, he received props from Stampeders’ signal caller Henry Burris:

“Joffrey, he’s been an animal. He’s a proven professional. To me, he’s the best running back in the league and he shows it game in and game out.”

Reynolds displayed impressive humility as he accepted Burris compliment:

“Any time that you can be mentioned with great players in this franchise and in this league, you’ve got to be happy about that. I’m just trying to play good football and just help us win games.”

Winnipeg running back Fred Reid insisted that his team needs to compete for 60 minutes if they want to win games in the CFL:

“We have to play four quarters. The slow start hurt us. We played hard and came back in the second half. I wish we could have pulled it out. We have to keep fighting.”

Calgary safety Wes Lysack praised the competitive fire of the Blue Bombers:

“Give credit to them. They gave us a heck of a fight, but we found a way to get a win. Wins are hard to come by in the CFL.”

The Stampeders travel to Edmonton for a Thursday night game against the Eskimos. Winnipeg will head home to face the CFLs best team, the Montreal Alouettes.

Lakers Retain Services Of Free Agent Lamar Odom

August 13th, 2009
by Ross Everett

After a month long free agency soap opera, both Lamar Odom and the Los Angeles Lakers got what they really wanted all along. The Lakers retained the services of their valuable sixth man, and Odom will return to the team after an intense recruiting pitch from the Miami Heat. Odom officially signed his new contract with the NBA Champions and along with the addition of Ron Artest the Lakers may actually be stronger than last years title winning squad.

Terms of the deal werent immediately released, but both player and team appeared relieved that things had worked out. In early July, negotiations broke down after some miscommunication between Odoms agent and Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss. While Odom worked to mend fences”including several personal phone calls to Dr. Buss”his agent was receiving interest from a number of teams. Miami, in particular, was extremely interest bringing out some heavy hitters including Dwayne Wade and Pat Riley to make a recruiting pitch.

When it was all said and done, Odom didn’t want to leave Los Angeles At the official signing ceremony, he hinted that a dynasty could be in the making:

“I guess basketball-wise, I feel complete. I want to feel it again. It’s kind of an overwhelming feeling. I get goose bumps when I think about it, and as long as I continue to play professional basketball, I want to always feel that. The way I feel during the summer, I always want to feel that. If we can win six, seven, eight, nine, 10 championships in a row, I want to experience that.”

The only significant loss to last years NBA title winning team was Trevor Ariza, but the teams signing of Ron Artest is likely an upgrade. Artest brings not only his infamous swagger and intensity, but an element of toughness and versatility that Ariza lacked. Such was Odoms commitment to the Lakers is that even during his free agency, he helped recruit Artest to sign with the team:

“I spoke to Ron two days before he signed, and I told him how important I think it is for him to come here. Because I know how hard he works, he needs to experience basketball at its best, at the highest level, and he needs to become a Laker. Two days after that, he signed.”

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak was understandably elated at Odom’s return:

“Three or four months ago, I didn’t think it could be possible that we could basically bring this team back in whole. Lamar had a wonderful season that ended on the best possible note you could have, and Lamar had a lot of options. … Here it is, July 31, and we have brought back everybody that we wanted to bring back.”

Odom noted that Los Angeles was home to his family, and he never really wanted to play elsewhere:

“I didn’t want my kids to have to change schools — just the little things. I’m comfortable here. I’ve been here since I was 19 years old. I’m proud to be playing for what I think is the most popular brand in sports.

Top Ten Attractions in New York You Can Visit For Free

August 12th, 2009
by Zachary Rubenstein

It’s not new to anybody that our economy is still in pretty bad shape. But who says that we have to stop doing fun things and going fun places just because of the economy? Take New York for example. You might think prices are too high there to go and have some fun, but in reality you can enjoy a nice trip there even on a limited budget. There are enough attractions in New York that are cheap or even free that you could make it work.

It doesn’t cost anything to take a picture of, making a painting of, or just to start at the Statue of Liberty. But if you want to see it the way it’s supposed to be seen, you should consider taking the Staten Island Ferry to go see it.

You can also visit ground zero, the very spot that was once home to the Twin Towers. Today on that site, you will find the plans going forward for a new tower/memorial called the Freedom Tower. There is also a memorial of the September 11th victims.

Between Fifth Avenue and the Avenue of the Americas lies another historical building of New York and considered one of the leading attractions in New York, the Rockefeller Center. Built in the 1930s, the building houses shops, restaurants and an ice skating rink.

For a real treat, make it a point to see the outside of the New York Stock Exchange, which is literally the embodiment of capitalism. As the icing on that cake, visit the place where our first president George Washington was officially sworn in for the first time.

Don’t think that you always have to pay to get into the nice museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is free anytime during the week, the Museum of the City of New York is free on Sundays from ten in the morning until 12, and the Museum of Modern Art is free on Fridays from four to eight in the evening.

To get away from the noisy city environment, take a step into Central Park, New York’s 843 acre park. There are boating lakes, a zoo, ice skating rinks, and a swimming pool for your enjoyment. Or you can also stroll past such high end stores as Sak’s Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Company, or Bergdorf Goodman for a look at the latest designs.

Everybody will want to see the Empire State Building, which is the tallest building in New York. Then there is Times Square which we all know from New Year’s Rockin’ Eve every year. Then again, maybe you want to go to Long Island and take in the amazing vistas. You can see any of these attractions in New York for free or relatively low cost.
