Should I Buy The iPhone 3GS?: A Full Review

October 16th, 2009

Apple’s iPhone 3GS is the latest release of Apple’s cherished smartphone, as usual packed
with even more features than the last version.

On the outside, the 3GS is identical to the 3G, apart from the small etchings on the back of the device. In this release, Apple has just focused on upgrading the 3GS internally.

One of the considerable changes to the 3GS is the speed; the 412MHz has been clocked up to 600MHz and the
128MB of RAM has been doubled to 256MB. The graphics chip has been supercharged. These upgrades lead to the 3GS loading things at double the speed of the iPhone 3G!

The storage space has also been upgraded on the 3GS. There is now a 32GB model available, making it more like a personal media player such as the iPod Touch.

The screen of the 3GS has been upgraded. It has been designed to resist the usual fingerprint marks that you make from everyday use of it. The effect is surprising, and the smears and kept to a minimum. This also means that there’s a clearer view on this phone.

As awaited by many Apple enthusiasts, the 3GS now finally has a better 3-megapixel camera and can now record
videos.

The 3GS is just loaded with features. Phoning and texting friends, taking pictures, recording video, surfing the net, checking emails, controlling your personal timetable, listening to music, watching movies, viewing pictures, and global orienteering are just some of the things that you can do with the 3GS.

Following some recent deals between Apple and mobile phone networks, the iPhone 3GS is available on many networks, such as O2 and Orange. It no longer holds its exclusivity in the UK. With all of these tariffs available, there will be one that’s suited to you.

The iPhone 3GS is one of the most feature-packed smartphones, in my opinion, on the market. Many of it’s features can’t be found on any other phone.

This all brings up the final question; should I buy the iPhone 3GS? As I would say with all Apple products, if you can afford one you should go and buy one, but if this is above your budget, you should probably get one of the alternatives to Apple products or maybe get an iPhone 3G, as they
now retail for very low prices.

Reverse Look Up Cell Phone Numbers: Is It Worth It?

September 10th, 2009

Have you received a phone call from an unrecognized number? Well, you’re not the only one. Millions of people experience this on a daily basis. It is normal to try and contact the person that called, but first you need to find out who it was. May be the person that called is someone that you don’t want to talk to, in that case you will need to do something in order to prevent these annoying calls.

Plenty of reasons are good to get more information about the person that called. Running a reverse phone search is just what you need to accomplish that and you can use a service such as the a paid phone number look up portal.

Why would you want to run a reverse cell phone look up?

It is a good way to get the contact information of a person, running a reverse phone look up can provide you with the individual’s or the corporation’s name and address. A person can use this information to deal with problems which can range from marital infidelity to phone harassment.

Reverse phone lookup needs to be done using the right resources. There are so many companies that offer this service that sometimes it’s hard to tell the good ones from the bad. There are dozens of websites that promise you information based on a phone number. Too bad that almost none of these portals will give you access to Cell phone number database. Their databases simply do not give you the ability to search for cell phone numbers because they don’t have them and the same applies to unlisted numbers.

In that case you should consider a paid phone number look up portal. This portal gives you the ability to locate the callers information if they used a cell phone. This rare ability comes from the fact that the portal was able to assemble a very large database of mobile numbers. Free reverse look up simply cannot afford to give you this information. Creating a database of cell phone numbers is a painstaking task which requires funds and commitment.

This explains why paid portals are not free. Money that’s involved in the creation of mobile number database forces the creators to charge a small fee. If one was to compare the creation process of a cell phone database and a land line database it would become quite clear that creation of a cell phone database is a whole other animal.

Once you’ve chosen a web search portal that’s not free, you will go through a simple signup/registration process. The registration process was tailored specifically to ensure that it’s simple and extremely fast. You money is well spent at a paid phone number look up portal.

Once you are registered with the portal you will want to do the reverse phone look up. To do that you will need to enter the complete phone number, which is the area code and the rest of the phone number. Press search and let the portal do the rest for you. It will start searching through its listings which comes from a huge fresh database. As opposed to other directories a paid phone number look up portal actually delivers results, other web-site talk the talk but rarely walk the walk.

Results from your search appear almost instantly. With the name of the person at hand you can search for it in their internal database to get the full picture of who that person is. A paid reverse look up site also knows that a satisfied customer is a regular customer. They treat every customer with extra care and attention. That’s the reason behind their solid money back guarantee which gives you a full refund if the requested telephone number didn’t give any information.

O2 and BT Disagree Over Effect Of Lower Price Phone Calls

August 24th, 2009
by Jon Hunter

BT shouts ’scaremongering’ at warnings from O2, the UK’s mobile phone company and formerly part of the telecommunications giant, that BT’s intended cuts to the cost of calling a mobile phone could price some mobile users from low-income households out of the market.

Ofcom, is looking at the issue of mobile termination rates which is the charge levied by mobile networks on each other and fixed-line operators to connect calls. O2 has warned that as a consequence the mobile phone companies would have to raise prices and potentially introduce “use by” dates on top-up credit.

They claim this would be particularly painful for low-income households and younger consumers as many are solely reliant on pre-pay mobile phones and do not have a BT line.

It has been claimed before that we have been here before in 2002 when Offcom first proposed controls of termination rates O2 made similar claims which have been proved unfounded with the benefit of hindsight, with the usage of prepaid phones actually rising since that point.

BT and the network 3 have joined forces to call for a scrapping of mobile termination charges through their “terminate the rate” campaign. Over 70,000 people have already signed their petition and they have the support of 198 MPs who have expressed their support for an early day motion calling for rates to be axed.

“The mobile carriers know that excessive mobile termination rates are unfair, and prevent fixed phone companies from fairly priced calls to mobiles,” John Petter of BT has said. “It’s no wonder that O2 and the other mobile operators want to hang on to the current regime and are resisting change. But the sky won’t fall.”

O2 questions whether a reduction in mobile termination rates would lower call charges from fixed-line phones. They state “In 2007, when mobile termination charges fell significantly, both BT’s and Virgin Media’s [cable] average retail prices actually rose. Mobile termination charges fell again, significantly, from April 2009, but this has had no effect on BT’s and Virgin Media’s standard retail charges; they remain stubbornly high. If there is a problem in fixed retail markets, it is not one that lower mobile termination rates would solve.

Serve Your Customer with Pleasant, Productive Hold Time

August 10th, 2009
by Tim Holdon

We all know what its like to be on the customer side and receive poor customer service, or to have to deal with the frustrations of long hold times, user-unfriendly phone trees, and annoying Muzak , only to be rewarded by rude, inept, seemingly apathetic customer service reps (let alone Paul from India who asks, May I be knowing the reason you are calling today, Mr. Holdon? As my elderly mother, who seems to think that there is just one guy, who really is named Paul, who answers all customer service calls to India, says I dont like that man. I dont have time for it! I dont want to keep rebooting my computer. I dont want to talk to him!)

This response to a blog post entitled Customer Servitude articulates what many of us may be feeling

I fear true customer service is a thing of the past. Unfortunately we live in a world where technology over powers us, with that we loose the human connection, or once we get the human connection were putting them out. God forbid they have to communicate with someone, never mind trying to help someone. If youre lucky, really lucky, you may just get someone who is cordial to you and willing to help. These people are few and far between who hold the true meaning of customer service.

Regardless of the medium, every minute of contact between your customer and you is important. From perusing your website to walking into your physical location to picking up your brochure to calling you on the phone ” and yes, to those seconds or minutes waiting on hold ” each is an opportunity to help or hurt your customers impression of you.

Your decision to add music on hold to your phone system (or to improve the quality of your current on-hold music or message) is a good one. Whether your customer is calling to buy, to get information, to complain, or even to compliment, if you cant answer their call immediately you should strive to ensure that their time on hold is pleasant and even productive ” for both of you.

Your Ideal Mobile Broadband Deal Is Out There Somewhere!

August 10th, 2009
by Steve Johnston

So you’ve decided that mobile broadband is for you, you know that it will give you access to broadband internet from just about anywhere, and you’re ready to go and figure out how to sign up for it. Unfortunately, as soon as you start to look into it you’re overwhelmed by offers: “3GB this,” “3.6Mbps that,” “free laptop the other,” everywhere you look. Although there are only 6 major providers for the UK, there are now a huge number of packages, so you’re going to need to know how best to compare mobile broadband offers. Hopefully, this article will help.

The first thing you need is a good idea about what your own mobile broadband needs are. Are you just going to use the service to check your emails when you’re out and about, or will it be your main internet connection? Do you watch lots of video on the internet, or do you mostly just read informative pages and articles? Take a few minutes to write down what you’re going to want to do with your mobile broadband connection.

So you know what your needs are, but what does all this technical stuff mean, which bits are relevant to you, and how do you compare the different offers? You only really need worry about 3 main things: Cost, Coverage, and Data. I’ll explain…

Network Coverage The area covered by the signal of your mobile broadband provider is know as coverage and this determines the accessibility of their service in any given area. If a provider doesn’t have coverage for the area you want to use mobile broadband in, you won’t be able to connect and access the internet.

More than 99% of the UK now has some sort of network coverage, which makes it pretty unlikely that you’ll find yourself in an area where you can’t connect at all. That said, some areas do not yet have the type of coverage necessary for good broadband speeds, and may default to speeds that are even slower than old fashioned dial-up internet.

Your Data Allowance Your mobile broadband internet access is charged by data transfer rather than duration. This means that, unlike mobile phones, where you are charged for call duration, you are charged for the amount of data that you upload and download. The term “Data allowance” refers to the amount of data transfer that is included with your monthly contract or pay-as-you-go top-up.

Data transfer is happening whenever you open a web page, watch a video, download some music, upload photos or send an email. Basically, you are usually transferring data in one direction or another whenever you use your broadband connection – the only times you’re not using your data allowance is when you’re reading a page (like you are now), or looking at any web page that isn’t doing very much (watching a video or listening to streamed music is still using up your data allowance).

Cost Much like with mobile phones, there are two different ways to get mobile broadband. There are contract payment plans, for which you pay a set monthly fee and receive a set amount of monthly data allowance – there’s usually a per megabyte charge if you use more than your allowance. The other option is a pay-as-you-go plan. This works in just the same way as it does for mobile phones – you buy top-up credit which allows a certain amount of data transfer (with most providers this credit expires after a certain amount of time).

There have been broadband comparison websites around for some time now, and they are great at allowing you to quickly and simply compare the costs and features of the different offers. Many of these sites have branched out into mobile broadband, and there are now some comparison sites who specialise solely in mobile broadband.

Business Conference Call – 3 Facts You Should Know

August 10th, 2009
by Wayne Treps

A business conference call? You have heard of it and you want to try it. If you are looking for more information about it, here are top three facts you should know:

#1- It can help improve the way you manage your business.

Running a business depends a lot on communication. In a lot of instances, you would have to meet with employees, associates, clients and investors. In the old days, this meant having to travel and attend meetings. Today, you can accomplish meeting goals through conference calls. With just a touch of a button or a click of a mouse, you can gather everyone and anyone instantly. The best part is that you get to save on travel expenses.

Conference calls work even better for business marketers. If you are still on the verge of promoting your business, you can use the power of one conference call to engage potential clients and tell them about your service or product. This is one of the quickest ways to get the word out about what your business is about.

#2- There are many options when it comes to conference calling.

There used to be limits when it came to making a business conference call. What was commonly available before was only the three-way phone which allowed 3 persons, maximum, to talk thru the phone. Today, more and more options are becoming available for companies and businesses who want to reach out to even more people. Traditional phones can now allow more than 12 participants in a conference call. There are even special services can accommodate as many as a hundred or more participants.

Telephones arent the only tools anymore either. You may opt for video conferencing which will allow you to see who you are talking to. You can also choose to go for web conferencing. This third option is a top choice because web services typically offer audio, video and file sharing features.

#3- A good conference call company can help you do things quickly and easily.

One good thing about business conference call is that it can be very convenient on your part. With it, you do not have to do the hard work on your own. You can always hire the services of a company that specializes in managing conference calls. This is an especially good idea if you are launching a campaign that will involve hundreds of participants or continuous conference call schedules. A reputable company can provide operator assistance, customer support, call session management tools and more.

It is crucial to be able to pick the right company then. With the many companies available out there, it may take you a lot of time to pick the right one. Making a careful choice is crucial though because a third party company could make or break your goals. The surest way to get a good company is to ask for referrals and to research on the recommendations given. A reputable company will always have good feedback both online and offline.

No doubt, a business conference call is one of the best technological innovations that can benefit your business. To get the best out of it though, you have to make the right choices when it comes to choosing call features and a service provider.

Not So Random Thoughts About Wireless Phone Plans

July 18th, 2009
by Jason Kavinsky

There are many cell phone plans offered by cellular operators in the United States like AT&T, Sprint PCS, Verizon Wireless, Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile, and so on. Choosing or not choosing an individual cell phone plan is totally dependent on the communication needs of a user.

The first thing to look for in an individual cell phone plan is to know exactly what you are looking for regarding your personal usage. Is it to mainly receive calls or do you plan on making many calls? Answering these questions will help you decide whether you should go in for a prepaid connection or for a monthly plan.

Prior to considering a discount cellular plan, list all the local area cellular phone providers in order to get an idea of their prices and services. Based on this information, pick a service provider who offers a plan that suits your requirements. If several discount cell phone plans have very similar features, pick the one that offers better benefits.

Prepaid plans are suitable for those who mostly receive calls. If you plan to make a lot of calls, a prepaid plan can end up being very pricey since call and SMS rates for prepaid calls are considerably higher than billing plans. The good thing about prepaid, however, is that billing is more simple and less costly. Prepaid often does not require contract or credit check.

One other factor to be kept in mind before considering an individual cell phone plan is the nature of the calls that are expected to be made with the cell phone. Will those be local, local long distance, State to State, international?

Also, one needs to find out the type of phone one is getting. Do you want an entry-level phone or one with advanced features like MP3 player and camera? Many companies bundle other promotional offers like a camera phone or free cellular phone, etc. Many times one can get free accessories for the phone like a set of headphones or a USB cable to connect with a PC.

Each cellular phone company’s plan basically includes price, free minutes and promotional offers. Depending upon one’s individual usage, one can find a number of cellular plans. However, individual wireless phone plans are good for those who do not have a family. A family can opt for a family wireless plan that supports more calls for less money but is more expensive than an individual plan.
