What One Should Know About Anxiety Disorder Treatments

October 21st, 2009

Today you will find that there are several different types of anxiety disorder treatments which can help to provide relief from the symptoms associated with them. The most commonly used is the ones that are prescribes by a person’s doctor, but there are also some natural ones that can be used as well. Often a doctor who is treating a person for any kind of anxiety disorder will not only prescribe medication but will arrange for them to undergo a course of therapy as well.

The most common forms of therapy used to treat anxiety are psychodynamic or cognitive behavorial therapy. However as mentioned there are natural remedies also available and some people finding using herbal supplements along with massage therapy effective.

However, for all doctors the first course of treatment that they will prescribe to someone in order to treat their anxiety disorder is medication. It is because they find that this provides a much quicker result to bring the disorder under control. Plus it provides the patient with a chance to explore other options for treating the condition after it has stabilized. The most common type of medication that doctors will prescribe for their patients who suffer from anxiety are anti-depressants. Normally ones such as Zoloft or Paxil, although some doctors may prefer to prescribe mild tranquilizers instead of or as well as the anti-depressants. It is the tranquilizers that can help the patient to relax more and especially at those times when an anxiety attack happens.

Normally a person will be required to take the medication for a period of time to ensure that they are getting the right dosage. Only after the doctor feels that the patient is settled can they then decide that a course of therapy is required. The first type of therapy that will be used on such people is known as behavioural therapy. During the sessions with a qualified therapist the patient will learn various techniques that can help them to bring their anxiety under control and in some cases actually prevent the attack from occurring altogether. But this form of therapy is only really effective if the patient is willing to follow the techniques correctly.

The other form of this type of therapy which works in more depth to treat the disorder is known as cognitive behavorial therapy. Through this a person is able to recognize those patterns which cause their anxiety to occur and then works on ways that they can then change the situation. In other words, what the person is learning to do is how to react in a different way to those situations which would normally cause their anxiety or stress levels to rise.

As for psychodynamic therapy this is a treatment where they are trying to find what is the underlying cause for a person’s anxiety problems. It is only by bringing this problems to the forefront can a person be able to resolve them and this in turn will help to alleviate the problems that their anxiety disorder is causing.

Even though you will find plenty of natural remedies that can be used for treating anxiety disorders, many are not considered to be ones that are used by the mainstream medical profession. Yes, passion flower extract, Valerian root extract and Kava Kava are beneficial as anxiety disorder treatments, but to be truly effective they need to be used in conjunction with other treatments. Such treatments, which work well alongside these natural remedies, are acupuncture and massage therapy.

Certainly, for those people who do suffer with any kind of anxiety disorder if its not controlled correctly it can be a very crippling condition. Yet as mentioned, there are plenty of different types of anxiety disorder treatments now available, so there is likely to be one or two that can help a person alleviate the problems that they are suffering from. But if they are choosing to use natural remedies then they need to discuss the matter with their doctor first in case they have an adverse effect on their current course of treatment.

Alternative Therapy Is Becoming More Accepted

October 6th, 2009
by Leslie Spooler

More and more people are turning to alternate therapies today. Integrated therapies are known to combine the mainstream medical treatments with many of the alternative or complementary therapies, for which some scientific evidence of efficacy and safety now exists. Some healing techniques that conventional medicine does not have is present in alternative therapies. The services are Homeopathy, folk medicine, herbal medicine, faith healing, diet fads, chiropractic, ‘new age’ healing, naturopathy, massage, and music therapy and many more. These are used instead of the conventional methods of healing in order to address some underlying disease.

You can gain a sense of control over your health through alternative health therapies that improves general quality of life by making you feel better about yourself. Reducing tension, anxiety, stress, sleeplessness, and depression are just a couple of things that alternative health therapies are known to do as well as make you feel a lot more relaxed. Alternative health therapies can help you to reduce all of the symptoms that are associated with cancer, like feeling sick, pain, constipation, breathlessness, tiredness, diarrhea, and poor appetite along with moderating all of the side effects that are associated with the traditional treatment for cancer.

When it comes to masking pain, alternative health therapies can be extremely effective, however sometimes this can hid an underlying condition that is more serious and they are normally used right along, in conjunction with the conventional method. Some hospitals provide chemotherapy and radiotherapy as part of cancer care; these are conventional cancer treatments and are offered by some social support organizations for free or at a small fee. Many cancer patients currently use alternate therapy to manage and sustain themselves through the difficult cancer treatments. It is important that the patient is aware that these treatments are not alternative medicine to orthodox medicine but are complementary therapies that provide emotional, spiritual and physical well being.

Americans for example, now spend billion annually on alternative health products such as vitamins and herbs. Around 72 million adults in the US are using alternative or complimentary therapy according to studies carried out in 2005 by Tindle, Davis, Phillips, & Eisenberg. From these studies, there was also an indication of a figure of more than thirty four billion dollars each year that is spent on out of pocket expenses for all of these therapies based on information that was provided by Craig, Herman and Caspi a few years ago.

Nonetheless, it is still extremely important that you learn which of the alternative health therapies are going to offer the treatments that are most effective for your needs, and you are going to have discover which of these treatments you are comfortable with. Individual therapies have been proven to improve the quality of life for many people with Motor Neuron Disease (MND), these can include: acupuncture, aromatherapy, homeopathy, hypnotherapy, massage, meditation, reiki and reflexology. It is important to consult the treating physician before using alternative therapies and to check out all additional treatment, so that there is no adverse or cross reactions that affect the treatment.

If you choose to integrate alternative health therapies into your treatment plan, you must discuss your choices openly, honestly and regularly with your doctor and others on your health care team. Before considering and deciding on this option, you should first check with your doctor on whether or not the treatment is available at your hospital or clinic. Today doctors are more and more convinced that alternative therapy does have a place in the overall healing of a patient; this gives them the ability to maybe recommend alternative therapy practitioners. These types of therapies help some people in fighting with the side effects of conventional treatment like anxiety and gives them hope and control over life.

How To Find The Right Massage Therapy Job Upon Graduation

September 30th, 2009
by Kerris Samson

The biggest thing that those who train to be massage therapists face when they are close to completing their training is if they will actually be able to find a good massage therapy job after graduating.

There are various different types of massage therapy jobs one can do upon completing your training. You could find yourself a position in a massage studio or a spa or salon. Or you may find a position within a medical environment such as a hospital, a doctor’s office or in a physical therapy or chiropractor’s practice. Plus the job you get will also depend on the location where you live. Some massage therapists work in hotels or at large leisure resorts, whilst others obtain positions on cruise ships.

When it comes to finding what jobs are actually available once you have finished your training is to talk to other massage therapists. But do not just limit yourself to discussing your options with those therapists who have some connection with the school you attend, but try talking to others in other locations away from where you live. Also it is a good idea to talk to as many therapists who work in the various kinds of areas that we have previously mentioned.

You may find as you look for a new job that there is a high demand for massage therapists in one area of the town where you live compared to another. So you will need to be prepared to travel to your work if you want to see your career as a massage therapist flourish. Also sometimes you may find it far easier to get a position working in a spa than you would say as a massage therapist in a medical setting.

Remember when you are talking to these massage therapists they will understand the position you are in as they were once in it themselves. Often these people are more than willing to answer some of the questions you have and may even offer you advice to get you the job that you want. Plus some may even provide you with a good lead for a job which you can apply for even if you have not got all the necessary experience as yet.

If you know the location where it is you want to work then start carrying out as much research on the place as you can. Along with speaking to the person who hires staff arrange if at all possible to speak with the massage therapists already working there. If you have not yet started training then find out from them where they did their training. Plus you need to find out exactly what it is they like and dislike about their job. Although the job may be ideally suited to their requirements, you may find that it is not the right one for you.

Any good massage therapy school will have a program in place that can help their graduates upon completing the course to find their perfect massage therapy job. Certainly, those schools have built up a good reputation are likely to find that companies will come to them in order that they can hire their students immediately once they have graduated. So it is vital that you choose one that has a good job assitance program in place before you sign up on to any massage therapy course.

If you keep the above in mind you discover that getting your perfect massage therapy job will be a lost easier. Also do not rush into the first job you are offered but spend time looking at the many advantages and disadvantages that each position has to offer.

Therapeutic Affects of Massage Therapy

September 15th, 2009

Massage therapy is one of the oldest methods of physical therapy. It is the practice of pressing, kneading, and rubbing specific areas of the body in order to promote pain relief and relax and stimulate the tissues of the body. It works on the tendons, ligaments, and muscles to improve muscle tissues. It can not only benefit the tissues, but even the body’s organs.

A massage has traditionally been known as a method of achieving relaxation and relieving tension. However, many of today’s health problems can benefit from massage therapy. Massage therapy treatments will improve one’s health by targeting and impacting such areas such as the immune, muscular, nervous, and circulatory systems.

The therapeutic benefits of massage therapy include: 1. Massage therapy will relieve sore muscle tissues and alleviate pain which can help speed up recovery time. A minor muscle injury can often prevent one from staying physically active. Massage therapy helps one return to their active lifestyle much more quickly.

2. Many people who work often find themselves working long hours and undertaking strenuous physical tasks. They can suffer from tight and tense muscles in the neck and back. A expert massage therapist can locate the source of muscle tension and apply massage techniques to alleviate the condition. Back pain can be treated with massage therapy. Deep tissue massage is a popular choice for back pain as it helps to soothe aching muscles.

3. Massage therapy can greatly improve circulation. The pressure and movements causes blood to circulate into and out of muscles and joints. Improved circulation can help speed up the recovery of muscle tissue injuries. The increased blood flood helps increase the nourishment to the muscles and the stimulation of blood circulation assists the lymphatic system in improving the removal of waste throughout the body.

4. The motions of massage can help increase flexibility in muscles. The therapist can also use methods such as Muscle Energy Technique to increase flexibility by relieving tension and reducing stiffness.

5. A massage can improve skin health by regulating oil production.

Other physical benefits of massage therapy include: relieves muscle tension and stiffness that includes the neck region, reduces discomfort during pregnancy, promotes healing of strained muscles and sprained ligaments, reduces pain and swelling, reduces muscle spasms, improves joint flexibility and range of motion, enhances the health and nourishment of skin, reduces blood pressure, and relieves tension headaches and the negative effects of eye-strain.

Mental and emotional benefits of massage therapy include: promotes a relaxed state of mind, relieves mental stress, promotes clear thinking and creativity, reduces anxiety, and promotes a state of well being.

Regular massages can have the therapeutic effect of strengthening and toning the entire body which will help to prevent strains and injuries. A massage can also stimulate the nervous system to help reduce exhaustion and restore one’s physical and mental levels.

Massage therapists work in a variety of settings such as sport and fitness facilities, rehabilitation facilities, work places, hospitals, nursing homes…etc. More people are now discovering the therapeutic effects of massage therapy.

How Can I Find a Christian Counselor?

August 30th, 2009
by John James

If you are struggling with something in your life you may be interested in getting help from a qualified Christian counselor. But located the right counselor for you and your situation can sometimes be challenging and frustrating. Most of us aren’t aware of the counselors that are available in our local area.

Since most of us don’t know of someone offhand that can provide Christian counseling services, it can be incredibly helpful just to know where to start your search. Finding a counselor doesn’t have to be difficult if you follow the steps discussed in this article.

Today we will cover some of the best methods for finding the right counselor for you.

1. Start with Your Pastor

For those who attend church, the pastor can be a great resource. Many pastors offer counseling services to people of the congregation who may be in need. However, most pastors will not have the experience to deal with all situations. In these cases, the pastor may do what they are capable of, and refer other people to counselors in the area.

If your pastor is not able to help you himself or through someone else on the pastoral staff, there is a good chance that he has some experience with Christian counselors in the area and he may have a good one that he can recommend to you based on your current situation.

Starting with your church is a great decision because you may find out that the church has resources you were not aware of. Even if this is not the case, someone will likely be able to refer you to a good counselor.

2. Pray for Your Search

Don’t forget to pray for God’s help in finding a great Christian counselor! Take a few minutes every day to ask God to lead you to the right person that can help you with the issues that you are facing.

3. Ask Friends or Family

Depending on the nature of the situation and how much you are willing to share with others, don’t be afraid to ask family or friends if they have experience with any Christian counselors or if they have anyone that they could refer you to in your local area. If others that you know have been through counseling before, you may be able to get a good referral this way to find the right person for you.

4. Look Online

If none of the other methods have helped you to find a counselor, the internet can be an incredible resource. One option is to do a Google search for a counselor in your local area. Additionally, there are a number of directories of counselors that allow you to search by zip code or city. One such directory can be found at http://www.aacc.net/resources/find-a-counselor/.

Hypnotherapy Courses Are Used For A Variety Of Different Reasons At The Moment And They Can Be Very Effective.

August 19th, 2009
by Ava R Byrne

A lot of people use hypnotherapy as a way to get over problems, deal with fears and it is also used as entertainment sometimes. If you manage to find a hypnotherapy training course then you could become a hypnotherapist and open doors to new career opportunities.

You’ll have lots of options once you’ve finished your training in hypnosis. A lot of people join organisations and go to events. Hypnotherapy courses aren’t a simple training process. You’ll probably be training for a few weeks before you will be allowed to perform hypnosis on people.

You will have to think about finances before you take on any courses because they can be expensive. You will probably have to spend about 2000 GBP before you can start working as a hypnotherapist so bear this in mind.

Hypnotherapy is a great skill to have and will be very rewarding in terms of salary. Stop smoking sessions pay a lot and you could learn how to do this. As a trained hypnotherapist you could work part time because the money is so good you wouldn’t need to work full time.

When you’re done with your training you can usually go straight out to work because they cover all the basics. If you want to learn how to hypnotise people yourself then make sure you’re ready and open minded before you take any courses.

Once trained, you’ll be able to help yourself as well as others so it’s certainly a rewarding thing to get into. Most hypnotherapy courses are full of friendly people who will be eager to help you learn. It’s certainly worth it.

You can work in a clinic or you can work from home and become self employed. It’s really up to you, which is great. Opening your own practice is an option that a lot of people choose but it can be daunting especially if you’ve only taken one course.

You don’t need any previous experience for most hypnotherapy courses and you can start training as soon as you like. Most of the people on courses will be just like you – interested and eager to learn. You’ll definitely enjoy yourself.

It’s a wonderful skill to learn and is certainly worth it. It’s also a very rewarding career. As well as helping you be successful, you’ll be able to help people once you have finished your training.

You should certainly consider hypnotherapy courses if you have an interest in alternative medicine and you like to help people. You’ll have the expertise to help people who want to deal with stress, sleep problems, weight management and more when you finish your training.

You will have to spend about 2000 GBP in order to sign up for hypnotherapy courses but it will mean that you’ll have the ability to earn a lot more. Training is very fun and exciting and although it can be daunting taking on something new, you’ll certainly enjoy yourself.

Hypnotherapy courses are a great way to get started. You don’t have to take an advanced class; most of the classes available are very slow paced and will make sure you understand before moving on. Overall, these courses are ideal for people who are interested in helping people and you’ll definitely have a blast while you’re learning.

Steps You Can Take To Control Panic Attacks

August 16th, 2009
by Sally K. Ross

Anxiety is a common mood state that occurs without an identifiable triggering stimulus. In that sense, it is differentiated from fear, which occurs in the presence of a perceived menace.

Another view is that anxiety is a “future-oriented mood state in which the sufferer is ready or prepared to attempt to cope with imminent negative events” suggesting that it is a distinction between present vs. future dangers that divides anxiety and fear.

Anxiety is marked with an intensification of somatic reactions that help the organism to deal with the threat. Heart rate and blood pressure are increased, sweating is increased, blood flow to the major muscle groups is increased, while immune and digestive system functions are slowed down (the fight or flight response).

Anxiety does not only consist of bodily symptoms. There are many emotional symptoms involved as well. Some of those include: “Feelings of apprehension or dread, trouble concentrating, feeling jumpy or tense, anticipating the worst, restlessness, irritability, watching (and waiting) for signs (and occurrences) or danger, and, feeling like your mind has gone blank.” There is also, “nightmares/bad dreams, obsessions about sensations, a ‘trapped in your mind’ feeling, deja vu, and feeling like everything is threatening.”

Although there are many techniques to stop panic attacks, the most successful ones are listed below and include discovering your own method to calm your body down.

Daily exercise not only helps keep you in good shape, but it also offers an outlet in which to release much of your pent up stress and anxiety. Dedicating at least an hour a day to some form of fitness, whether it be walking around the block or cardio can do wonders for your tension and help to calm your panic attacks in the long run.

Discovering a relaxation technique that will calm your breathing and force you to settle down can be a key ingredient in controlling the worst part of a panic attack. Enrolling in a yoga class, which can demonstrate various breathing and meditation techniques can go a long way in preventing future attacks.

It can seem as if alcohol or other drugs serve to relax you, but in the long run they can make your anxiety worse and cause more problems than they are worth.

If none of these other steps work in controlling your panic symptoms, then you might want to talk with your doctor about medication alternatives. There are many different prescription drugs that can help reduce your anxiety while you learn new. While it is not good to become needy on this type of medication, if you need immediate help in calming yourself after an attack, this seems to be the wisest choice.

by Joshua Ridgemont

4 Tips for Finding the Right Christian Counselor

August 10th, 2009
by John James

Finding the right Christian counselor for your situation can be a challenging and intimidating process. While there are Christian counselors located in most areas, most of us don’t usually know much about them or even pay attention to them until it is time to start looking for one.

Because for most of us scheduling an appointment with a counselor is not as easy as scheduling a checkup with the family doctor, knowing some effective ways of locating the right counselor can be extremely useful.

Today we will cover some of the best methods for finding the right counselor for you.

1. Consult with Your Pastor

If you are a church attender, one of the first things you should do is seek the advice of your pastor. Many pastors offer some type of counseling for church members, but frequently they will not be experienced or equipped to help with the specific area in which you are struggling. While most pastors do have some education in counseling, that’s not what they spend the majority of their time doing, so don’t be surprised if your pastor says that he is not the best person to help you in this situation.

If your pastor is not able to help you himself or through someone else on the pastoral staff, there is a good chance that he has some experience with Christian counselors in the area and he may have a good one that he can recommend to you based on your current situation.

By starting you search with your pastor you will be able to find out if your church has any resources that can be of help to you, and if not, you should at least be able to be pointed in the right direction.

Massage Chair Analysis For Top Shiatsu Massage Recliner

August 9th, 2009
by Monty Markovich

If you are looking for a massage chair, then you will see many massage chairs claiming to be a shiatsu massage chair. There is a lot of confusion as to what constitutes a true shiatsu style massage chair. First we need to understand the actual massage therapy technique, then we can better evaluate if a chair really fits into this category.

Shiatsu massage is a branch of ancient Chinese medicine which was developed in Japan over many centuries. Acupuncture has been used since ancient times, but the use of pressure instead of needles is acupressure. The Japanese healers have practiced many ways to heal the body and to reduce aches, pains and general discomfort. This particular massage therapy developed by using pressure applied to different areas to unblock and enhance energy flow. Through much trial and error, the Japanese healers found specific areas now called acupressure points which were found to help to heal the body.

In addition to using the acupressure points, these healers also made use of applying kneading to loosen tight muscles. Tapping was also found to stimulate the muscles and enhance blood flow. These techniques are used in conjunction with pressure from the thumbs, fingers and the palm of the hand. The goal is to relax the body with the use of acupressure points which connect to the major organs. It is useful to know that when the body faces stress, the body mobilizes. All your major organs are mobilized to protect the body which increases stress and anxiety. Shiatsu seeks to reverse this process helping the body to restore itself and rebalance.

Shiatsu massage therapy has 3 main parts which include acu-pressure, kneading and tapping massages. Usually the acu-pressure points are detected by performing a body scan. The massage chair then customizes the massage to the user. The back rollers have the kneading and tapping movements. The best massage chairs have these minimum requirements to qualify as a shiatsu style massage chair. Some brands that offer them are Human Touch, Sanyo, Panasonic and Omega Massage.

One of the original lineages of shiatsu massage chairs are by Panasonic. The EP 30003 massage recliner provides two different styles of shiatsu style massage. It has the traditional shiatsu massage and also the Junetsu style. The Junetsu style differs from traditional shiatsu with the use of small circular and penetratng motions. The Junetsu style is good deep tissue relief. The combinations in the auto programs are well thought out for a therapeutic and relaxing massage.

The Sanyo SA 5000 uses a physical shape sensor to measure the users body. This is a high tech gadget to keep the shiatsu massage hitting the right acu pressure points. The interesting feature is that you can move around in the chair and the shape sensor readjusts where your pressure points are located. This is perfect for those who squirm more during the massage. The chair will still zero in on your points and hit them with relieving accuracy. Sanyo has got your back!

In addition to effective and penetrating shiatsu style massage, the Montage Premier by Omega delivers a total massage environment. Omega builds in music therapy where you can put on the headphones and let ambient noise disappear. While you are relaxing, the Montage Premier has full body heat to help with blood circulation and relaxation. And if that is not enough, this Omega chair will stretch out your lower body. This chair comes with a lower body traction system. Stretching and elongating muscles is also part of the shiatsu tradition.

There you have it–shiatsu massage chairs. Shiatsu massage therapy is a very popular massage therapy and performed around the world in spas. Now you know some of its most basic elements. There are many subtle movements with shiatsu. Find the best massage chair brands and you will get a satisfying and relieving shiatsu massage. If you are just starting your search, check out shiatsu massage chairs from Panasonic, Omega and Sanyo.
