Are You Looking For An Easy Way To Make A Website For Free

November 5th, 2009

Not all that long ago it took a professional web designer and development team to design, program, and implement a website. Prices were expensive and not guaranteed. They needed to be experts in graphics and manipulation, FTP software, C Panels, and search engine technology, even though it was in its infancy. Fast forward to the 21st century, and we find there is more than one easy way to make a website for free.

The entire concept of high level websites has been completely changed over the past few years. Most of the programming has become automated and behind the scenes. Software and “executive programs” have replaced what web designers were originally meant to do decades ago.

And so came the template based websites. Accepted by everyone and used by even large companies, everyone could build a website without knowing HTML, CGI or any other type of code. Template sites became even more robust and not only included the ability to write and build pages and add links, many template sites provided valuable add-ons such as a large selections of headers and graphics, mailing list generation, autoresponders, news feeds, and the ability to design the site to your own specifications. All this for free.

Some of the large search engines even offer their users free websites or at least very cheap websites. A few offer the first year free and after that, it’s a few dollars a month to renew. Other than having the free website though, you need to buy / register a URL. This isn’t absolutely necessary, however. You could have your company name as a sub file for the hosting company. A bit less professional, but much cheaper.

The difference would be similar to this: www.yahoo.freesites.yourcompanyname.com vs. Having your own domain name, which would be www.yourcompanyname.com. Either is acceptable, but it all depends on what you’re selling. There’s a certain level of professionalism that is expected, and your domain name is very important.

Another option is to use a blog site as your website. Some blogging sites are better than others depending on how much you can manipulate it or add your own code. Certain blogs provide a variety of templates, and each one can use certain gadgets or widgets that can be customized to your needs. Other than that, most of these websites will be very similar.

There are many websites and companies out there that provide all sorts of templates that allow you to build a website for free, but after you build your free website you will need to pay for monthly hosting charges. Depending on the features provided to you in order to build your free website will depend on how much you are expected to pay for your hosting charges. A simple one page sales letter type website is going to be much less than a multiple page site with links, shopping cart functionality, and SEO management.

Free doesn’t necessarily mean “cheap” or unattractive. There are some superb websites out there that were done using free services they found online. Not just tiny companies, but companies that do business nationally or even internationally. Business owners have finally realized that there is no need to spend hundreds of dollars a month to have someone on call to update their site on a regular basis. They do it themselves, for free, using user friendly template services. Why pay for something when you get it for free?

Having A High Quality Website Is Crucial For All Businesses

October 6th, 2009
by Jamie Prescokt

Today’s world of business demands a high quality website to compete and whether you are an old company that has been in business for years or you are just starting out makes no difference. The reality is that your website is going to be the only contact with your clients and whether you have your own clothing line, ship computers worldwide or are a consultation service.

There are already more than 10 billion websites on the internet and all of them are attempting to draw the attention of people surfing the internet and your business website is just one of the many. Therefore, it is necessary to have a website that is appealing and which gets the message across while being using friendly if you want to setup an internet presence.

Fortunately, there are many ways open to you so that you can develop a website that is dynamic and unique for your company, as well as captivating to viewers. There are literally no limits as to the possibilities. However, keep in mind that customers will want a website that is not only attention grabbing, but also easy to use. You should ensure that the website is as easy for customers to use as possible, because this will increase the likelihood that they will go to your site first and spend their money on your business.

However, creating a site that is both appealing and user friendly is not difficult to do. You should include a shopping cart feature so that clients can pay for the products chosen by simply filling out details and clicking on the right boxes. Other good features include online catalogs which show the products or slide shows for service descriptions.

Something you must be sure to do is to ensure your customers that your website is safe and secure and that they are comfortable that their private information is protected. With the use of movies, catchy wording, music, pictures or all of these is a way to attract customers.

Although there are many possibilities in regards to what can be done with a website, there are also just as many different internet users. Putting everything together right can be difficult if it is something that doesn’t fall under your area of expertise and developing a website can become overwhelming.

One mistake that many businesses make is that they try to make their own website and as a result they don’t get the wanted results or they think they can save money since the website is not really important for business anyhow. In reality, though, the internet is the shopping and business center of the future and it is where the largest potential is to be found when it comes to finding new customers or business contacts.

By having an excellent website that is available to all to find and is user friendly, it is possible for any home run business to find customers all over the world. With a website even underdogs in the business world can compete with major international companies. If a search engine ranks a website high, then it is noticed and there are instantly millions of potential new customers. Every business owner who believes in their products or services will need to have a suitable website to show it off and for most a high quality website is just as important as for the business as the business is in itself.

What Requires Special Attention when Designing a Web Page?

October 5th, 2009
by Amy Nutt

When designing a web page, one has to consider how they are going to attract and retain visitors. One way of reaching online users is to design a website that ranks high in the search engines. Achieving a high search ranking requires creating a web page that is search engine friendly.

To build a search engine friendly web page, one should implement the following tools:

1. When a search engine ranks a website, they assess the value of the content. Web content needs to be relevant to the website’s purpose and rich in relevant key words. Relevant keywords should be included in the headlines. As well, the content has to be relevant to the site’s product or service. The text should be easy to read and free of spelling and grammar errors. The page should have an introduction and conclusion with a clear purpose of the site. Try to update your web page with fresh content regularly.

2. The design and layout of the site should be professional and unique. Pages should be quick to load so you should use small graphics and pictures that are professional and relevant to the site. Every image should have an “alt” label and a text link. Bright colors, irrelevant pictures, and odd flashing animation will result in a low search engine ranking. The layout should be consistent with uniform colors. The web page should be easy to navigate and the various applications should blend well. The site’s navigation bar should be clear with professional titles. As well, your contact information should be easy to locate. A site map is an important part of the web design. You should also make sure that you do have any “page not found” error pages. Every page should include the appropriate domain name and professionally designed logo.

3. Make your web design interactive. This will give your site a boost in search engine rankings. You can use such applications as a Blog, chat room, surveys, polls, discussion boards, contests, user feed back forms, etc.

4. Reciprocal linking is important to achieving a high search engine ranking. These links should be relevant to your site. Consider posting to business directories. Don’t use link farms and other low quality link sites as they will only lower your search engine ranking. Embed text links in your content paragraphs to increase your ranking.

A professional website design tells a visitor and search engine robot that your site is professional and trustworthy. Search engine spiders and robots score professional websites high in the search engines. Because a high search engine ranking is so important, designing a web site takes time and good planning. There are professional web site design companies that are experts in creating web pages that achieve high search engine rankings. Using a web design company will significantly increase your search engine ranking.

Because the majority of online users use a search engine to locate a website, it is essential that your web pages are designed to be search engine friendly.

The New MSN Bing Comeback

September 1st, 2009

Microsoft it seems had run out of names to use for it search engine. First it was MSN Search then, Microsoft Search, followed by the awkward Live Search (or was it Windows Live Search?). Rumours were circulating about a certain project Kumo as Microsofts answer to Google and before people could figure out what language Kumo was from, there came Microsofts announcement on June 1st. Bing was live.

Bing was fomenting for a long time in Microsofts backyard and came out front after Microsofts ambitious takeover of Powersoft with its semantic search systems. Bing put those skills to good use with its results turning out pretty much, as accurate as Google on certain sets of keywords such as Paris Hilton or Arnold Schwarzenegger with an xRank feature indicating their popularity, But Bing does turn out some wonderfully vague results with more complex questions like I think Im going to die something Google avoids by bringing up links to self help pages.

The explorer pane on the right side provides handy links to search categories, if any while a pop up window allows a sneak peek at the site contents before you open it. Bing also remembers your search history and displays similar search queries as you type, however this feature can be turned off to avoid potential embarrassment (a lesson for Google here!). This Check-in-Bing facility is also extended to Video results with excerpts of each video played within Bing itself. Images can also be easily found with a point by point search for size, shape or the presence of people and zoomed in for a better look with links to similar images as well.

Bing is a boon to Shopaholics Anonymous with its Cashback scheme and links to Expert and User reviews as well as Local links and More Listings. However some of these features are hidden so well, you have got to wonder if Microsoft’s habit of shoving everything un-necessary in your face and hiding the best features will ever die out.

Bing continues Lives tradition in offering the Cashback scheme to users who shop using Bing and returns a portion of the purchase made if a sale is confirmed. The shopping experience is also a lot better, due to a plethora of user and expert reviews offered along with a list of similar brands to compare prices with. However accessing these features requires a bit of digging in and is not easy for new users to be familiar with.

Lastly News and Maps could definitely use some tweaking as they are way behind Googles international standards and local penetration. Bing it seems is currently geared towards a more American audience with almost all listings for travel, news and shopping reverting to USA. This can loose Microsoft some valued customers in its ambitious plans to target local populations. Bing might get better at handling searches, but it really needs to give the larger international audience access to its best features Travel, Shopping and decisive searches.
