Here Are Some Pointers On Fast Ways To Lose Weight

October 6th, 2009
by Kelly Lord

If you are thinking about losing weight and really need something to supercharge your dietary habits that you will be using to lose weight over the long term, then maybe one of these fast ways to lose weight will be just the ticket in getting you started. Our society is filled with food pitfalls to trap the most astute of eaters, and because of this, we are in an obesity boom like no other time in our history. We are surrounded by fast food, and restaurants of all kinds, and commercials on TV showing juicy, dripping hamburgers and crunchy fried chicken—-it’s no wonder there are so many overweight folks today.

One of the first programs for easy and quick weight loss that comes to mind, is the low carbohydrate diet, where you reduce your intake of carbohydrates radically, and increase the amount of proteins of all kinds that you are eating. As a result, your body is forced to start burning fat as a source of fuel, and when you are on the plan, you must forgo the high carbohydrate foods like pasta, potatoes, corn or bread. The protein consumed must be lean meats and lots of other types of proteins; just keep an eye on how many carbohydrates you are consuming.

As we move on, thinking about fast ways to lose weight, here is another suggestion that works pretty well for rapid weight loss. This is the calorie alternating diet, and it is as it states?alternating. One point you eat normally for 2 days, then restrict the amount of calories you eat for 2 days, and then go back to your normal diet for 2 days. In this way, you can trick your system into burning calories at a more rapid rate, because of the way it is naturally programmed, and you will lose weight rapidly.

When you are searching for options and fast ways to lose weight, one of the suggestions that comes up inevitably from someone, is the cabbage soup diet. There are a lot of advocates for this diet, because even though it tends to be on the monotonous side, it will prompt you to lose weight and lose it fast. The backbone of this diet is the cabbage soup, the recipe for which is online in a myriad places on the Internet; and the idea is that you eat as much cabbage soup as you want, as often as you want, day after day after day. The other part of it is that you add something different to your intake every day—-such as, the first day, just cabbage soup; then the next day cabbage soup and all the steak you want—nothing else; then next day, cabbage soup and all the fruit you want—nothing else. And so on.

The next step in our journey to finding fast ways to lose weight, is a more common way to kick start your dietary undertakings, and that is the metabolism boosting diet. This is easier to live with than some of the other quick weight loss diet plans, because you are eating more often during the day—as many as 6 or more meals during the day in fact—-but each of these meals cannot exceed 200 calories apiece—-making your total caloric intake for the day about 1200 calories. You are eating more often thus you are keeping your metabolism running at a higher pitch all the time, rather than the ups and downs encountered with eating 3 big meals daily. Your weight loss will be rapid, and you will feel full most of the time—-which is good, by any standard.

In the past, when surgeons were readying their heart patients for surgery; they would put them on a quick weight loss diet that rivals all the fast ways to lose weight that are out there. This diet was referred to as the 5 day diet, and it is recommended now not only for heart patients, but for the general public as well also. The diet makes sure all the needed vitamins and minerals are included for optimum health, and the caloric intake is not more that 1500 calories per day. This is not a long term diet by any means, because it is drab—-but for 5 days and a quick weight loss, it’s a deal. An example meal would consist of black coffee, ? a grapefruit, plain tuna, and bananas—-over and over.

Losing weight is not nearly as much fun as putting it on, because sometimes the methods needed to take it off are tortuous compared with the delicious taste bud stuffing extravaganzas that take place and help to pack on the pounds. But, when it comes to that point where the line is drawn in the sand, and you must do something, sometimes using one of the fast ways to lose weight is a simple solution to get you out of your lethargy and on the road to weight loss.

How To Find Diets That Work

October 6th, 2009
by Kelly Lord

Trying to lose weight in today’s society and overall environment is almost a full time job for a lot of us. How often have we bought books about dieting and never cracked them, bought exercise machines and never opened the shipping box, and bought miracle pills and super weight loss guarantees from some huckster on the TV at 3am while chowing down on popcorn and soda. Finding diets that work is so elusive that most of us throw in the towel before we even start, because deep down inside we feel that it is an impossibility and a totally unreachable goal. Losing weight is hard; but there is hope because there are programs out there that do work and can help you lose weight and become healthier overall.

One of the main reasons people shun many weight loss plans is because of the cost. You tally up how much all those prepaid meals and shakes cost per month, and you are stunned at the amount; and if you are part of a family, or better yet the cook for the family; how can you justify buying food for the family for the month, and then spend hundreds of dollars on yourself to get prepackaged cardboard meals for you for your diet plan. Most people can’t rationalize that; but there are ways you can find diets that work without too much pain and effort. For you to stick to a plan, it must be tailored to the way you live, how much you can spend on it, and contain a nutritionally sound base of foods so you maintain your health. And your head and all the emotions and idiosyncrasies that are in it, needs to be taken into consideration as well. How you think and how you react to daily living is just as important in the planning of your diet plan as anything else. Many of the best diets that work are based on behavior modification, or changing the way you think and act.

Take a look at Weight Watchers, or the Sonoma Diet (based on Mediterranean foods and cooking with wine included) or the Glycemic Impact Diet. These are all diets that work because they are time tested and have proven track records in weight loss, and they include your feelings and emotions as well as what foods you like and how you like or dislike cooking. Some of us would rather open a package, or eat a can of soup cold out of the can, rather than have to (God forbid) pick up a pot and actually cook something; so the diets that work take than into consideration when formulating an eating plan and make up a diet with those quirks in mind.

Now, what exactly is it you want in your search for diets that work. Are you a binge eater and need help with that, or do you hate to eat and hate to cook and just want something that is prepared so you don’t have to do anything but heat the food. You need to focus on what your immediate needs are in a diet plan, and how would it be something that would work for you, like making exercise the main focus of the plan, and the foods would just be secondary—helping, of course, but secondary. Or if food is your life and what you dream about day in and day out, then you have to find a plan that would make your food choices as desirable as possible with lowered calorie content so you can please your head as well as your stomach.

The next little tidbit on the diets that work search, is willpower. Is yours in good operating shape, or does it need an overhaul or maybe a good swift kick in the pants. Willpower can make or break any weight loss plan, and if you are serious about finding anything out there that will help you, you first must make up your mind that you will plan carefully and then throw yourself body and soul into carrying out that plan to make it work. We are surrounded by advertisements of all sorts that shout EAT, EAT, EAT in our faces every waking moment from billboards dripping with BBQ’d ribs to TV ads that have mammoth cheeseburgers surrounded by fries and luscious milkshakes with creamy foam sliding down the sides of the glass—mmmmmm, yum. Or so they would have you think. The problem is if you are going to succeed in a weight loss plan, you must shore up your willpower and overcome all these food cravings that these classy ads instigate. Studies have shown that without a long range workable food plan that fits your lifestyle and your image of yourself, you are set up for failure simply because of the way our lifestyle is today with all our conveniences and available foods.

What you can do now though is start keeping a food diary so you can see your pattern of eating and what it is that makes you want to eat. Start planning incentives for yourself; little rewards that will keep you going until you reach your goal, and for heavens sake, be kind to yourself. Finding diets that work and then making them work and sticking to them is a major undertaking and it’s hard for the average person; so go easy on yourself and don’t be negative. You can change anything you put your mind to, you just have to have a suitable plan that is right for you that you can follow, and then put your willpower into gear, and follow it.

Help is just around the corner and you can find that help by taking stock of your situation, what your likes and dislikes are, and what your goal is with starting a diet plan. You cannot just concentrate on the weight loss part, although that is the major part; but you also need to get your head on straight and feel positive about yourself, your life, and what you want for yourself. You know there is a fabulous, wonderful, knock-em-dead person inside of you just begging to be released; and you can do it if you get your ducks in a row and get moving.

Pilates Accessories are Not Just a Whim and Here’s Why

September 28th, 2009
by Gina Parker

Even if you only do mat Pilates, you will still need a mat. That’s because it protects your spine. So, it is probably safe to say that you must have accessories to do Pilates. I’m not talking about the new-fangled kind of “Pilates” inventions, but the classic pieces of the puzzle that can really aid you in you routine.

If you’ve ever worked out on a reformer you probably know what a loop is. They are what you put your feet it while your doing leg work. Also, there is an accessory called a double loop which is allows you to effectively adjust the ropes with the loop.

Another important accessory that needs to be considered is the handles. This may take a little experimentation to find out just which combination of materials feels the best for you and performs the best over the long haul.

Maybe you haven’t heard about Pilates poles. Pilates is something that has had a lot of development. One interesting name for a pole is called the Gondola pole. You can use this to help maintain your balance when you are standing up on the reformer.

Other poles can also be used for various needs or specific routines. If you’re just starting out though, don’t worry you do not need to concern yourself with Pilates poles for awhile.

Cushions can be helpful pilates accessories. Like poles, they can help to provide different aspects (of the same exercise) to different people thus making Pilates almost infinite in its versatility.

Mats, yes pilates mats can be an accessory that can make a big difference in the life of your pilates practice. Why? Because you can learn and take mat routines from qualified instructors all over the planet. Some large cities even have profession, high-level mat classes for free and the rely on their income from students purchasing items and buying more personalized instruction. So, love your Pilates mat. Take into account the thickness, portability and calmness of the surface pattern.

These are just a few of the many accessories that can ad value to any Pilates experience. Many other factors come into play. Price and quality are two big ones of course. I like to view all accessories with an eye toward longevity because I like to think I have decades of Pilates ahead of me.

Get Larger Muscles Now with Bodybuilding

September 3rd, 2009

What is bodybuilding you may ask. It is developing muscles by working ones body and working ones diet, with the ultimate end of gaining more muscle mass and a firmer body along with less body fat. These workout will make you looks good in whatever you wear, be it a bathing suit or a business suit.

Bodybuilding did not really exist prior to the late 19th century, when it was promoted by a man from Prussia named Eugen Sandow, who is now generally referred to as The Father of Modern Bodybuilding.

It became more popular in the 1950s and 1960s with the emergence of strength and gymnastics champions joining the sport. The most important of these was Charles Atlas, whose advertising in comic books and other publications encouraged many young men to undertake weight training to improve their physiques to resemble the comic books muscular superheroes.

Many studies point to the fact that a properly managed program of training which is combined with a fairly hyper-caloric regimen of eating will give you gain in size and strength and will aid you in the avoidance of body fat.

The two main strategies of bodybuilders to maximize muscle development:

* Using weight or hydraulic resistance machines for ones training.

* Using a special nutrition that contains a good amount of vitamin supplementation and protein is helpful. Also, it can’t be stressed enough, that getting enough rest, weather it be sleep or just plain recuperation from the workout itself.

Training to excess is when a bodybuilder trains so much that he succeeds his capacity to overcome this in his recovery. Some bodybuilders say that over training can be beneficial when done so that is not excessive, that is, for a brief period of time and then is given a greater period of rest in order to compensate.

I have come to the conclusion, that because, I have a limited amount of time to train in that it is best for me to be more focused. My routines have become much more efficient through the use of super-set, tri-sets and giant-sets following a strict routine.

Now, I focus on functional training and getting lean. I must say that this has worked better and I have been able to stick with my workouts, training period and have been able to eat clean. This makes it a lot better and a lot easier, while at the same time it makes me feel great. And I don’t forget to sleep and to get adequate rest which is also an important part of training.

Getting to know all about body part training, doing sets and reps combined with proper form and speed of movement. Also, rest between sets that follows a proper frequency is all part of my exercise routine.

There is no rocket science behind it as long as you make your bodybuilding goals realistic (not expecting to have abs in 6 weeks if you’re 60-lbs overweight). However, the results I am getting give the absolute best bodybuilding workouts ever just by following these simple principles.

4 Arm Fat No No’s

August 17th, 2009
by Katherine Crawford M.S.

Are you confused about proper nutrition for getting rid of flabby arms? Do you get a massive headache when thinking about getting toned arms?

If so, don’t beat yourself up over it. After all, it’s all the marketer’s fault, not yours. They have successfully created a giant tornado of arm fat confusion.

I was once a victim of said confusion.

The good news is that I’ve spent a large portion of my professional career figuring all of this out.

Thus, here are 4 arm toning mistakes that I discovered along the way:

1. Having large amounts of protein. There is a lot of good about protein, but when consumed in excess there is also a lot of bad. Make sure that no more than 30% of calories come from protein.

2. Assuming whole grains are key to arm fat loss. Whole grains are healthier than most processed alternatives. However, whole grains are not optimal for someone that is very sedentary. If you’re just starting out with losing arm fat, then whole grains are ok. But eventually you’ll want to transition into legumes.

3. Considering dietary supplements as being completely safe. If only the supplement industry were regulated, but it’s not. So until the government steps up and oversees the supplement manufacturing process, be very critical of what you put into your body.

4. Letting more than 5 hours go by between feedings. For maximum arm toning you want to eat every 3 hours. And to prevent any negatives make sure you never let more than 5 hours go by between meals. Why? Because your metabolism will sink.

Steering clear of the above arm fat no no’s will make the process of getting toned arms that much easier. So make sure to take action on this advice now and not later. Because later usually never comes! And don’t forget to view all the marketing hype with a critical eye. Only then will you be able to get lean and sexy arms once and for all!

The Cost of Liposuction In a Bad Economy

August 10th, 2009
by Cedric Montague

If you are interested in getting liposuction or if you’re a doctor running a cosmetic surgery center, both of you are in an interesting position during a bad economic time. Liposuction and its related cosmetic industry cousins continue to remain afloat despite tough monetary conditions. Yet while the statistics may show a drop to some degree compared to 2006 and 2007, it’s pretty amazing how strong the number are already.

How can this be? The answer is two fold and takes into account behavior on both sides. Surgery centers know they need to increase incentive for their customers so they’ve slashed prices a bit to bring in new liposuction business. Customers intrigued at the prospect of having fat removed from their bodies now have some economic motivation to do so – “hey, look at the cheap this liposuction is!” they might be thinking.

How much cheaper are things really though? Is it just a case of the media hyping something that’s not even a big deal in the first place? Not really. While you’re not going to find fifty percent off sales like this is some kind of big box discount business, you will find prices cut by 10 percent to 30 percent. This amounts to quite a bit of savings when you’re looking at spend a couple thousand dollars.

These discounts are even bringing in a new type of consumer for the liposuction industry. It’s the people who always wanted to get such a treatment done but either couldn’t afford it or were just too concerned with spending that much money. An unforeseen benefit to all this is that down the road, these first time customers will likely become second and third time customers.

Whenever you’re dealing with a place that offers really good prices on liposuction, make sure you’re getting what you pay for. Or rather, make sure you’re getting MORE than what you pay for! Don’t sacrifice quality for saving a few dollars. If you do, you might spend twice as much going to a second doctor to get the job done right.
